- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 211
“I think you’d better listen to your sister’s advice.”
Leo had the translator he got from the Chitauri elder strapped to his jaw, and he could clearly hear what Nebula was saying.
“I’ll listen to your sister!”
With a loud “bang,” Gamora snapped the rope. She reached for a concealed spot on her waist, pressed a button, and a sharp, high-tech retractable short blade appeared in her hand.
She leapt up and viciously aimed the blade at Leo’s chest.
Nebula, standing nearby, just shook her head and closed her eyes.
Gamora was indeed a bit better than her in every aspect, but just by a little. The gap wasn’t that big, so there was no need to even look at the outcome.
“Oh, shit!”
A curse exploded from her sister’s mouth, and when she opened her eyes again, her sister was back in the chair next to her, now restrained by the same magical rope that could tighten and loosen automatically.
“Alright, now can we have a proper talk?”
Leo put away his wand, revealing a somewhat friendly smile.
He was fairly familiar with both Gamora and Nebula, as they were members of the Guardians of the Galaxy—a series in the Marvel movies he particularly enjoyed watching.
Plus, both were adopted daughters of Thanos.
Thanos’ ideal was to eliminate half the universe’s population to prevent the universe from facing problems due to resource depletion.
Before obtaining the Infinity Stones, he led his cosmic army to conquer various planets. On every planet he conquered, he would randomly kill half of its inhabitants.
Gamora’s home planet, Zehoberei, and Nebula’s home, Luphomoid, were no exceptions.
Both of their parents were among the unfortunate ones killed, leaving them as orphans who were taken in and adopted by Thanos. They were also trained to become top spies and assassins in the universe, aiding Thanos in completing various missions.
With their parents killed by Thanos and half of their people wiped out, how could Gamora and Nebula ever truly see Thanos as their father? It was just that Thanos was too powerful, and they had no choice but to follow orders.
Nebula had it worse than Gamora because Thanos favored Gamora more. Every time they competed and Nebula lost, a part of her body would be cruelly modified, eventually turning her into the cyborg she was now.
Leo didn’t kill them outright because he knew that if he showed enough strength and used a few tricks, he could easily turn them to his side.
It wasn’t their combat skills he valued but their knowledge of Thanos, his army, and the entire universe.
Sooner or later, he planned to leave Earth and travel to the universe, to visit various planets. Gamora and Nebula would be the best guides for that journey.
“What do you want to talk about?”
Seeing that she couldn’t break free from the ropes, Gamora calmed down and asked.
Leo smiled:
“How about leaving Thanos and working for me?”
“Sure, no problem. You can let us go first, and then we’ll consider joining you,” Gamora said, her eyes flickering with thought.
Leo could see through Gamora’s little scheme and didn’t take the bait. Instead, he spoke slowly:
“Thanos killed your loved ones. I know neither of you is truly loyal to him; you’re just forced by his strength and power.
So, we are not enemies. There’s no need for you to placate me. If I wanted, I wouldn’t need to waste time talking with you here. I could just use this.”
As he spoke, he pulled the Mind Stone Scepter out of a small bag.
The Mind Stone Scepter could directly control minds through contact with the heart, making people follow his orders. Its effect was quite similar to his Imperius Curse.
However, he hadn’t directly used it to make Gamora and Nebula obey him. First, he knew the sisters well enough to believe he could convince them to join him. Second, neither the Mind Stone Scepter nor the Imperius Curse was perfect.
People controlled by the Mind Stone Scepter could have the control lifted, even with some Earth-based methods. Hawkeye, after being captured, was freed just by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s techniques.
As for the Imperius Curse, repeated use on the same person would build resistance. It was also influenced by mental strength, willpower, and intelligence. Even an ordinary person with strong traits could resist it, such as some agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
But for those lacking in those areas, even a god could be controlled, like Thor or Hulk—guaranteed with a single use.
Hearing Leo’s words and seeing the Mind Stone Scepter, Gamora and Nebula fell silent because Leo had spoken what was in their hearts.
Don’t be fooled by how they always seemed to be at odds, with Nebula competing against Gamora and trying to prove loyalty to Thanos. In reality, they were both constantly plotting to tear Thanos apart.
But throughout their upbringing, they had witnessed Thanos conquering planets countless times, and that kind of overwhelming power was deeply imprinted in their minds, forcing them to suppress their emotions.
“You seem to know us, and Thanos, very well.”
Nebula, with her dark, modified eyes, looked up at Leo, and Gamora also realized something.
From the beginning until now, this Earthling named Leo had, in his speech and behavior, clearly shown a deep understanding of them and Thanos—more so than some major powers in the galaxy.
“Yes, perhaps even better than you know yourselves. And as for why, do you think my abilities resemble those of a normal Earthling?”
Leo gave a mysterious smile and then looked at Nebula.
Nebula, recalling Leo’s performance while slaughtering the Chitauri army, suddenly stiffened.
“Nebula, what’s going on?”
Gamora turned to look at Nebula. She hadn’t seen what happened earlier.
Although the two didn’t get along, Nebula just wanted Gamora to care for her like a sister, not actually harm her. At this point, she wasn’t going to throw a tantrum. Her black eyes, like a projector, shot out into the air.
Instantly, a virtual image appeared in the air, like a slideshow. The image showed Leo riding a dragon and slaughtering the Chitauri army.
Leo didn’t stop Nebula and just let her continue.
Gamora watched the images, especially the scene where the entire mothership exploded into a ball of blue fire. She was unsettled for a long time; this power was indeed not something that could be compared to the weakest beings in the galaxy, like Earthlings.
“Help me, and I’ll help you kill Thanos. After that, you’ll be free, and both the universe and Earth will be spared a disaster. What do you think?”
Leo looked again at Gamora and Nebula.
This time, Gamora and Nebula didn’t dismiss him. They exchanged glances and finally nodded silently.
They didn’t fully trust Leo yet, but they were willing to give it a try. If it turned out to be a lie, they could always turn Leo over to Thanos, making up for the failure of this mission.
