Chapter 12: A Jackpot, The Golden Treasure Box!!

Nighttime at the temporary camp of the Garrison Regiment.

As Fang Bo gazed up at the bright night sky, he suddenly craved a cigarette, though he wasn’t sure if the body’s original owner had been a smoker.

Perhaps it was due to some interference from the space, but after he absorbed the soul of this body, the memories that surfaced in his mind were fragmented and largely useless.

“Forget it, no point thinking about that now.”

Pixis had granted his request, but in the end, had also assigned him an assistant.

Hunting Titans was a serious matter, with no room for error. Therefore, they had arranged for a powerful and skilled helper who wouldn’t raise suspicion from the enemy.

“It’s about time.” From the shadows, Mikasa suddenly appeared, looking a bit drained.

Although she wasn’t the best at expressing emotions, she had a soft spot for her fellow recruits. Hearing such a harsh truth had understandably left her a bit sad.

Seeing her spirit was somewhat low, Fang Bo figured it was time to put his silver tongue to use, giving this Ackerman warrior some much-needed motivation.

“Are you worried about what’s happening over there?” Fang Bo offered a familiar smile, pressing a finger to his brow and whispering in a devilish tone, “I’ve always thought  Eren might have some special feelings for Annie. Who knows if he’ll be able to handle it when the time comes?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Fang Bo was met with Mikasa’s murderous glare. Her cold expression seemed to warn him, “Say one more word, and I’ll cut you down right here.”

In that instant, his instincts screamed danger, and Fang Bo, wisely, shut his mouth.

Thanks to his “comfort,” Mikasa was now radiating with fighting spirit, eager to personally take down Annie herself.

Satisfied, Fang Bo smiled and turned his gaze to the distant bonfire.

It was humanity’s first victory over the Titans, and such a significant triumph was naturally worth celebrating.

It also conveniently allowed the soldiers to leave the camp, ensuring that if something went wrong, not everyone would be blown to pieces at once.

As for Bertholdt, he was too worried about Reiner and Annie to care about any celebration, especially since the hole in the wall was his doing.

Fang Bo had accounted for every angle—now, only the final step of the hunt remained.

“When the mission’s over, how about we share a dance?”

“…” Mikasa had no interest in responding and walked straight into the tent.

Overhearing the conversation from outside, Bertholdt pushed aside his worries and looked up at his approaching companion. “Jason, you’ll be disappointed. Even if she dances, Mikasa would only do it with  Eren.”

Clearly, everyone knew about Mikasa’s feelings for Eren. Normally, she might have been quick to deny it, but today she remained unusually silent.

Bertholdt found it strange, but his attention quickly shifted to something else.

Sitting across from his target, Fang Bo casually drew his long blade and began to wipe it down, seemingly speaking without intent, “What about you, Bertholdt? I bet you’d love to invite Annie to dance, right?”

“Uh, no, I… I wouldn’t…”

Bertholdt, flustered by Fang Bo’s probing, stumbled over his words, trying to explain how he and Annie were just fellow villagers, and that there was nothing romantic between them.

But Fang Bo’s next words completely threw him off balance.

“That’s too bad, because Annie was planning on inviting you herself. Mikasa heard it too, didn’t she?”

At this, Bertholdt immediately spun around, his eyes blazing with hope. “Is that true, Mikasa? Did Annie really say—”

Suddenly, his words faltered, as he caught sight of his companion’s icy glare.

And the cold glint reflected in her pupils.

Before transforming, a Marleyan warrior is really just a slightly stronger human. A well-aimed strike to a vital spot could easily bring them to the brink of death.

While they did have impressive regenerative abilities, it only worked if the central nervous system could send commands to the rest of the body.

Fang Bo’s strike was both ruthless and precise, severing the spinal cord between the vertebrae. Poor Bertholdt lost control of his body in an instant.

Without hesitation, Fang Bo raised his blade again, not giving his opponent any chance to beg for mercy.

One strike to maim, the second to kill—just like that, the Colossal Titan, with its nuclear-like destructive power, died by Fang Bo’s hand.

[You have slain a major plot character, worldline distortion increases!]

[You have obtained a golden plot treasure box!]

[Notice: Plot character Reiner’s attitude toward you has changed to hostile.]

[Notice: Plot character Annie’s attitude toward you has changed to hostile.]

[Notice: Plot character Zeke’s attitude toward you has changed to hostile.]

[Faction reputation system activated!]

[Marley faction attitude: Hostile.]

[Legendary Trait (Heart of Steel) activated, +5 Life Points.]

Amidst the flood of notifications, Fang Bo’s eyes burned with excitement.

A golden plot treasure box! Although he wasn’t sure how the grading worked, it had to be far superior to a plain white box.

As for those Marleyan Warriors who now hated him—he had already killed one of them. Why would he care if they liked him or not?

Of course, Fang Bo wasn’t a particularly selfish person. Ideally, he didn’t want anyone to hate him. But if they did, well, he’d just cross those names off the list by killing them all, and then he’d be back to being everyone’s favorite “Jason.”

Completely oblivious to the rarity of a golden treasure box, Fang Bo didn’t realize that throughout the long history of the Space, only a few people had ever managed to earn a golden box during a trial mission.

This advantage of foresight was perhaps even more powerful than he imagined.

While Mikasa dealt with her own emotions, Fang Bo wasted no time opening the box.

With an imminent battle ahead, if he could pull one or two powerful skills or pieces of equipment, it would greatly aid his plan.

[You are opening a golden plot treasure box.]

[You have obtained 500 plot points.]

[You have obtained the Colossal Titan’s Bloodline Serum.]

[You have obtained a modified Omni directional Mobility Gear IV.]

[You have obtained three servings of sauced steak.]

Each of these items could make anyone’s heart race.

A full 500 plot points—a generous reward.

An entire plot mission could yield less than 400 points in total, not counting hidden tasks.

One golden treasure box had doubled the income.

However, compared to the following items, those plot points seemed almost ordinary.

**Colossal Titan’s Bloodline Serum:** B-Rank, use it to gain the “Titan Transformation” trait.

If he injected this serum, a Reincarnator could transform into a Colossal Titan within the Space.

The thought of it was enough to make his scalp tingle.
