- RWWOKS Chapter 31
**Chapter 31: Death Match**
On the naval warship’s lookout tower, a marine’s mouth gaped open as if he had seen a ghost.
“A… a giant octopus! A massive Sea King-class octopus!”
Every navy soldier who heard the shout looked puzzled. Why would a Sea King suddenly attack the warship? There had never been reports of such large creatures living in these waters before.
“What’s all the panic for?” At the critical moment, Ax-Hand Morgan appeared, roaring to restore order. “Lower the sails and load the cannons. If that thing shows its head, blow it apart!”
A Sea King? In front of a warship of this size, it was nothing more than a moving target.
A few rounds of cannon fire would turn it into the sailors’ lunch.
The marines were confident, not giving much thought to the sudden appearance of the Sea King, but the SNEST squad immediately sensed something was wrong.
“This isn’t right,” the pink-haired girl said instinctively, sensing danger even though her perception ability hadn’t given her a warning. She urged the others to remain vigilant.
With a major battle on the horizon, even the smallest disturbance could have unknown consequences. The entire squad readied themselves for combat, prepared for anything.
If the marines didn’t believe her, that was their problem.
It soon became clear that the girl’s instincts were spot on. This attack was no accident.
As numerous life forms appeared within her perception range, her voice trembled with fear as she stammered, “Those people… they’re hiding inside the octopus!”
That’s how they had evaded detection by the stronger forces. The vibrations were from the pirates, who were furiously attacking the bottom of the ship.
Why was she so scared?
The answer was simple: an enemy capable of orchestrating such an attack would be incredibly difficult to deal with.
Not factoring in the enemy’s cunning could lead to their defeat in this battle. And who knew if the pirates had already revealed all their tricks?
As she pondered this, another disturbance occurred. The massive octopus stopped ramming the ship and began wrapping its tentacles tightly around the hull, holding it in place.
A large number of pirates climbed up the tentacles from the rear, making it impossible for the marines to attack them.
Worse yet, cannonballs were being transported up the tentacles by the pirates. Once they reached the top, the pirates began hurling them down onto the densely packed deck.
In an instant, the warship’s deck was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the ship’s construction included a fireproof coating, preventing the flames from spreading too quickly to the interior.
The marines tried to launch a counterattack, but the pirates cleverly used the octopus’s thick tentacles as cover. The tentacles’ fatty layers were as tough as rubber, rendering bullets ineffective.
The marines couldn’t reach the enemies hiding behind the tentacles. They could only retaliate when a pirate revealed themselves, but fighting like this, no matter how many marines they had, it wouldn’t be enough.
Seeing the dire situation, the girl urgently said, “We have to deal with those tentacles, or this battle is over before it even begins.”
“Leave it to me,” said the sniper Xiao, stepping forward and setting up his sniper rifle in an ideal position. With his ability to ignore defenses, he was the best suited to handle the situation.
After carefully aiming, a muffled shot rang out, and one of the giant octopus’s tentacles was severed in half.
Caught off guard, the pirates fell like dumplings from the sky. Even without formation, they landed on the deck and continued to battle the nearby marines.
Only a few unlucky pirates fell into the densest part of the marine forces, where they were quickly cut down.
Ten seconds later, a second shot rang out, and another tentacle was severed by the sniper.
This time, the pirates had learned their lesson and jumped down before the tentacle could be cut, avoiding being surrounded by enemy forces.
Even without their advantage, the pirates still held their ground against the marines. The numerical advantage that had once favored the navy was no longer as overwhelming.
“Do numbers really matter?” Captain Kuro silently leapt onto the deck, locking his gaze on the sniper who had been taking the shots. “The more people you have, the more worries you carry. And besides, you still cling to that ridiculous notion of justice.”
Before he even finished speaking, Kuro had already appeared behind the sniper in complete silence, his Cat Claws easily tearing through the man’s protective gear.
“Ugh…” The sniper grunted, instinctively performing a perfect tactical roll forward.
True to his reputation as a boss-level character, Kuro’s speed far surpassed that of Olson, and with just one casual strike, he had taken away 75% of the sniper’s health.
In a one-on-one fight, the sniper wouldn’t last three seconds. But of course, Xiao was never alone.
As the sniper stood back up, he didn’t see Kuro in front of him. That wasn’t surprising—Kuro had already used his incomprehensible speed to appear behind him again.
This was his signature move, Silent Step, which gave him the same movement speed as the Six Powers technique, “Soru.”
In the East Blue, it was an almost unbeatable technique.
If this attack landed, the sniper would be instantly killed. Yet, despite the situation, the sniper’s expression remained calm, almost unconcerned.
“Hold on!” A furious shout rang out, and Randy, the MT with the tower shield, came charging in like a locomotive.
Anything in his path was obliterated, and even Kuro couldn’t help but frown at the sheer force of his approach.
Kuro was known for his brilliant tactics, but smart people often shared a common flaw—they lacked the courage to make reckless gambles in critical moments.
Rather than relying on instinct, they trusted in their calculations and intelligence. Faced with the choice to attack or evade, Kuro made the most logical decision in a tenth of a second.
He leapt backward, trying to avoid Randy’s charge.
The sniper could be killed later, but taking a direct hit from such a powerful rush wasn’t a wise choice.
However, Kuro had misjudged Randy’s determination and didn’t understand the mechanics of the enemy’s skill.
Once locked onto by the charge, no matter how fast Kuro moved, the attack would land.
Boom!
The tower shield slammed into Captain Kuro, and at the same time, the sniper ignored the bun offered to him and quickly fired a devastating shot at Kuro.
As blood sprayed from the boss, the group of reincarnators grinned, satisfied with the outcome.
This was the power of teamwork. Even storyline characters with attributes far exceeding the squad’s had to fall under the coordinated pressure of their combined attacks.
“Xiao, how much health did you take off just now?”
“Around a third.”
“Good, two more shots, and this fight will be over.”
The plan seemed perfect, but there was one variable they couldn’t ignore: the pirate-aligned reincarnator.
The girl hadn’t made a move yet, entirely focused on detecting this hidden enemy. No matter what attack they attempted, she would try her best to intercept it immediately.
A pale blue glow appeared in her palm, and her eyes narrowed as she turned toward the direction of the dining hall.
“Found you!”
Bang!
A piercing bullet shot straight at her face, but it was stopped by a layer of pale blue ice crystals.
The girl frowned slightly. The power behind that shot was far greater than she had expected.
“Another gunman?” she thought.
As the team’s spiritual specialist, she possessed the terrifying ability to control ice, thanks to a previous mission in the *King of Fighters* world. When it came to gunmen, she could neutralize their attacks completely.
If they couldn’t break through her ice barrier, a gunman was nothing more than a moving pawn.
Captain Kuro was already surrounded by her teammates, and soon Xiao’s devastating shots would take him down.
Once they retrieved what they came for, the outcome of the navy’s battle didn’t matter to them at all.
Just as she was thinking this, a figure moved toward her with lightning speed. It was Paul, wielding his Epic Sword.
“One-Sword Style: Flash Strike!”
With the famous sword in hand, Paul’s attributes had significantly increased, making him as strong as an elite enemy.
**Paul (Swordsman)**
Strength: 12
Constitution: 14
Agility: 12
Spirit: 7
Perception: 12
**Trait**: Mind’s Eye
Using his Mind’s Eye ability to identify weak points, Paul swiftly shattered the ice barrier with one clean strike, followed by a powerful slash at the female reincarnator.
Even though Paul hadn’t completed his Destiny Quest yet, Fang Bo still had the means to command him without question.
With Jango temporarily incapacitated due to his effort to hypnotize the massive Sea King, and the other two fighters out of action, Paul was Fang Bo’s only reliable ally.
Paul’s unexpected ambush paid off instantly, freeing Fang Bo from the spiritual reincarnator’s interference.
Meanwhile, Captain Kuro was struggling against the combined assault of Lieutenant Commander Ripa, Olson, Xiao, and Randy. The situation was looking grim, and Fang Bo knew he had to move fast to rescue him.
All Fang Bo needed to do was provide some assistance—just enough to help Kuro eliminate one of the enemies. Without the overwhelming advantage, Kuro’s devastating power would strike fear into anyone.
Fang Bo’s priority was simple: take out the sniper. Without the threat of Xiao’s rifle, taking care of the others would only be a matter of time.
“Hey, hey, don’t just ignore me!”
A voice suddenly called out beside him, making Fang Bo’s eyes widen in shock. He hadn’t noticed anyone else nearby.
This could only mean one thing: the enemy’s perception attribute was higher than his, or they had some sort of concealment ability.
Finally, Fang Bo caught sight of the boy’s figure and immediately used an information scan on him.
[ID 14580: Strength 6, Constitution 8, Agility 6, Spirit ***, Perception ***. Trait: ***]
“Ugh… this garbage equipment can’t even fully scan the traits,” Fang Bo grumbled.
The information was practically useless, and he had wasted a precious point of spirit to get it. The poor feedback made Fang Bo resolve to repair his scanning equipment in the pirate world, even if it meant altering its original effects.
As he watched the boy gather an energy sphere with his powers, Fang Bo sighed, realizing there was no way he could get through this encounter unscathed.
Golden lightning crackled in the air as three strange Titans appeared, landing around the boy in a protective formation.
It looked like they were ready to devour him at any moment.
