Chapter 53: Preparations Begin
Choosing the Lawrence family was a strategic decision for Thor. For one, their territory was only twenty to thirty miles away from his mine, and as time passed, it was inevitable they would notice something unusual. Secondly, they were both strong and weak enough.
Yes, strong but also weak.
The strength of the Lawrence family lay in the fact that they were one of the remaining thirty or so barons in the entire Northern Province. Having developed their territory for nearly twenty years, their influence in the Maine River Valley had surpassed that of many others. If Thor could subdue them, the other pioneering lords in the valley wouldn’t pose a problem, not even the two nobles nearby.
At the same time, their weakness was apparent. From what Thor had learned, the Lawrence territory had only about a hundred apprentice knights, thirty or so official knights, and just one great knight.
Given their strength, it seemed like the perfect target.
Certainly a better option than that fool from the Emerson family.
With his plan in place, Thor wasted no time. He quickly summoned Raine and began issuing orders.
In the following days, a large shipment of **Black Iron Armor** was delivered, far exceeding the previous amount.
By the end of the month, when **Racios Assad** arrived, he was thoroughly astonished by what he saw.
“My friend, you must be joking!” Racios couldn’t help but gulp, his breathing growing heavier.
This trade route had already opened up new opportunities for him, revealing endless possibilities. After just one round of trading, his profits had exceeded 500 gold coins. Even after giving Thor 70% of the share, Racios was thrilled.
But what truly shocked him was the even greater surprise awaiting him on this visit.
Not only did Thor have the promised 100 sets of Black Iron Armor ready, but he had also prepared an additional 100 sets. More astonishingly, there were even three sets of **Silver Armor**.
Silver Armor—rare and highly valuable.
Racios could barely contain his excitement as he thought about the high demand for Silver Armor lately.
“Two hundred sets of Black Iron Armor, and three sets of Silver Armor!” Thor said calmly. “You can sell these, but I need you to do something in return.”
“My friend, just say the word!” Racios, practically trembling with excitement, responded without hesitation.
With 200 sets of Black Iron Armor and three sets of Silver Armor, he no longer had any concerns.
An intriguing thought crossed Racios’s mind, but he quickly suppressed it.
“I need you to…” Thor beckoned for Racios to step closer, then began outlining his plan.
“My friend, are you serious?” Racios’s eyes widened, disbelief clear in his expression as he looked at Thor. His voice was cautious.
What had he just heard?
Thor wanted him to leak the information that he possessed a **large iron mine** and had **goblins** working for him to **Baron Lawrence**.
Was Thor mad? Or had Racios lost his mind?
This was incomprehensible to Racios, and he couldn’t make sense of it.
“Of course, I’m serious,” Thor said with a smile. “Just follow my instructions.”
Racios gazed deeply at Thor, then finally nodded in agreement, though his heart was racing with excitement and confusion.
Racios wasn’t a fool, and he trusted that Thor wasn’t either. There had to be a reason behind this request.
A bold idea formed in Racios’s mind but was quickly set aside.
Once again, Racios looked at Thor, feeling that his friend was growing more mysterious with each passing day.
“My friend, let’s take a break from business and enjoy a lavish meal,” Thor said with a light laugh, leading Racios into a grand banquet.
The next day, Racios left Eagle Ridge with a large shipment of goods, heading toward various territories.
With the experience of his first trip, Racios Assad’s second visit garnered even more attention from the local lords. They were eager to see what he had to offer this time.
However, Racios didn’t sell the Silver Armor immediately, only trading away 100 sets of Black Iron Armor while keeping the rest in reserve.
It wasn’t until his caravan arrived at **Baron Lawrence’s** territory that he made his move.
“Oh, my friend! Racios Assad, what an honor to have you here,” **Pape Lawrence** greeted him warmly, embracing him as he arrived.
Racios returned the gesture, and after a brief exchange, the two men separated.
“Baron Lawrence, take a look at what I’ve brought for you this time. I’m sure you’ll be pleased,” Racios said excitedly.
“Oh? Could it be the **Silver Armor** crafted by goblin hands?” Pape Lawrence’s eyes lit up with anticipation.
“You’ve guessed correctly, Baron Lawrence. Three full sets of Silver Armor, straight from the goblins’ forge. By the Life Goddess, other lords were willing to pay 400 gold coins, but I saved them for you because we’re friends,” Racios replied, his tone exaggerated but playful.
“Haha, what a pleasant surprise!” Pape Lawrence laughed heartily. “Yes, we are indeed friends. Racios, I’ve already prepared a grand feast in your honor.”
Pape Lawrence’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. For some time now, he had been eyeing a minotaur territory and needed a large amount of armor and weapons. Buying from Loren City was prohibitively expensive, and he had nearly decided to make the purchase when Racios arrived a month earlier, bringing him twenty sets of Black Iron Armor. Not only was the price reasonable, but the quality was exceptional.
The only regret he had was that he hadn’t been able to purchase any Silver Armor at the time.
But now, with Racios bringing two hundred sets of Black Iron Armor and three sets of Silver Armor, he could hardly contain his excitement.
