FLDI Chapter 61

This entry is part 62 of 211 in the series Fantasy Lord: Start with Daily Intelligence

Chapter 61: Explanation of the Plot

The reason the compensation demand was set so high is to serve the ongoing plot. The protagonist’s goal isn’t just a baron. Right now, these people are the protagonist’s rivals, but in the future? In the Northern Province, the most scarce resource is people. For the protagonist, anyone who can rise in the Northern Province is a valuable asset. Figuring out how to recruit them is what truly matters. The fact that the other party is a lord—so what? Other lords have nobles under their command, so why can’t the protagonist?

From the setup, it’s clear: Marquis Lehmann is uninvolved and uninterested in managing affairs. That leaves a power vacuum in the Northern Province. Who will fill that void?

Moreover, the protagonist won the battle, so of course, he decides the ransom terms. Why should the opposing side have a say? Who won the battle, after all?

And as for the moral high ground—there is no such thing here. It’s been mentioned many times: the Northern Province has no order; strength rules all.
