BPG Chapter 52

This entry is part 53 of 59 in the series Demon King, don't run away [Peasant in the Game World]

“Let Hemeng out first; we need its help.”

Bai Jin opened her luggage and took out a glass bottle filled with a light blue, indescribable substance. She opened the jar and, like turning out a can of luncheon meat, dumped Hemeng out.

The cylindrical Hemeng wobbled side to side like freshly made pudding, smooth and bouncy, covered in Bai Jin’s special magic potion sauce. Yang Yu couldn’t help but swallow his saliva.

To avoid suspicion, Yang Yu had Bai Jin disguise Hemeng as a jar of potion, covering it with a layer of potion for authenticity, successfully bringing Hemeng into the research facility.

However, Hemeng had been extremely uncomfortable in the jar. The bottle was too small, restricting its movement entirely. Hemeng silently vowed to slap the person who came up with this terrible idea.

Now, it was finally free.

Hemeng gathered its strength, leaped up, and spun in the air, launching a slime tackle at Yang Yu. Yang Yu elegantly sidestepped, perfectly dodging Hemeng’s attack, causing it to crash into the solid wall.

A sticky trail was left on the pristine white wall as Hemeng slid down into Yang Yu’s hands. Yang Yu blushed, “You little thing, you must like me a lot to pounce on me the moment you see my face. How embarrassing.”

Like hell I want to pounce on you!

Damn it, why is he so agile now? Last time I knocked him over easily; how did he get so strong so fast?

“Hold off on the affection. We need to talk business.” Yang Yu brushed his hair back.

I wasn’t trying to be affectionate!

Hemeng wriggled free from Yang Yu’s grasp and jumped into Bai Jin’s arms in a huff.

Yang Yu ignored it, taking out a pen and starting to write notes on the white wall.

Perhaps Asuna was too confident in her charm skills, as many secrets within the research facility were not secrets at all. The facility was divided into aboveground and underground sections.

The first floor above ground, where Yang Yu and the others were, was called the General Hall. It included pharmacy, living quarters, material storage, and drug storage, much like a typical research facility, meant to deceive.

The second floor above ground was Asuna’s private space, likely containing some device that continuously charmed or maintained the charm on the black-market workers. If Asuna’s charm was a one-time permanent effect, that would be easier to handle. But if it required a device, it would be much more troublesome.

Moving on to the underground sections, which also had two levels.

The first underground level was where the Silver Orchid Trading Company developed new drugs, but this was a facade. This level mainly served as a quarantine area, not too complex or filled with valuable equipment.

This level was also the limit for the guards.

The tricky part was that guards entering the first underground level had to register, and only those approved by Asuna could enter.

The number of black-market workers on this level was always kept at a subtle quantity, enough to stabilize the experimental subjects in case of anomalies. If things went wrong, a few small teams were dispatched to handle it, but no more.

Going down to the first underground level would bring them closer to their target on the second underground level.

The second underground level was divided into three independent sections, but there was no information on their specific purposes. Both the soldiers guiding them and the Giant Umbrella Trading Company’s intel were silent on this.

However, based on the mission details, Yang Yu speculated these three sections corresponded to real drug research, secret weapon development, and the storage of classified information.

A wise person never puts all their eggs in one basket.

Infiltrating all three areas to gather the necessary information would be a significant challenge.

Just figuring out the guards’ distribution and infiltration methods for these three areas was not an easy task.

Yang Yu and Bai Jin were scheduled to start their shift tonight, working two days on, two days off, from 9 PM to 9 AM.

The night was the best time for action, giving them ample time to investigate.

However, Yang Yu didn’t want to work even a minute for this corrupt company. Even without life-threatening dangers, working around the clock would eventually lead to a breakdown.

To leave this corrupt company quickly, Yang Yu had already decided to wrap everything up tonight.

And the key to achieving this goal lay in Hemeng, nestled in Bai Jin’s arms.

“Hemeng, the ventilation ducts are extensive and unguarded. We need you to use your slime abilities to scout.”

As a royal slime with high intelligence, Yang Yu wasn’t worried Hemeng wouldn’t understand. However, Hemeng remained indifferent and uninterested.

“Hemeng, did you hear what I said?”

Yang Yu squeezed Hemeng, but it still ignored him, lazily uninterested.

The last time Hemeng had listened to Yang Yu, it had been for Bai Jin’s sake. But after the way he had been treated, Hemeng had no intention of helping Yang Yu again.

Bai Jin gently moved Yang Yu’s hand aside and stroked Hemeng softly.

“This mission is very important to us, and failure is not an option. If we fail, we might die here. Yang Yu is asking you to scout to devise a perfect plan and minimize our chances of failure. You’ve always been a clever little thing, and I know you understand. Please, help us.”

Looks like the situation is more complicated than I thought.

Before coming here, Hemeng had overheard a lot of the plans. It knew that Yang Yu and Bai Jin were here to find medicine to cure Bai Jin.

If they failed and had to escape without the medicine, Bai Jin might die from her illness.

Compared to Yang Yu, Hemeng saw Bai Jin as a friend and was naturally willing to help a friend.

“…Fine, I’ll help this time. But don’t get the wrong idea. I’m doing this for my friend!”

Hemeng made a strange noise, and Yang Yu tilted his head in confusion. Bai Jin, however, smiled brightly, “Thank you, Hemeng. Yang Yu, Hemeng has agreed to help us.”

“Tch,” Yang Yu clicked his tongue. “I talk myself hoarse, and it’s useless. A few sweet words from a girl, and it agrees immediately. What a slime who forgets friends when it sees a pretty face.”

Hemeng, infuriated, tried to hit Yang Yu, but Bai Jin held it tightly in her arms. “Hemeng is a girl; she wouldn’t forget her friends.”

“Oh, so she’s a girl,” Yang Yu said, opening the system interface. Hemeng had no gender symbol. “Wait… don’t tell me slimes have genders?”
