- FLDI Chapter 170
Thor was still very much looking forward to Kuwaiti’s farmland reclamation plan. If the Eagle Territory could truly open up more than 20,000 acres of farmland, it would elevate the entire domain to a whole new level.
Of course, Thor also knew that completing this task wouldn’t be as simple as it seemed.
Though the canal had already been opened, perfecting the canal system and transforming the surrounding plains into fertile land was an incredibly complicated task.
This was not the same as in his past life. There were no modern fertilizers here, so the reclamation of farmland was far more challenging.
Moreover, it was difficult to maintain the soil’s fertility in the early stages.
The land he had reclaimed before had been quite different. The earlier choices had been areas of sand and silt or marshlands. These regions had been constantly fertilized by decaying animals and plants over the years, resulting in highly fertile soil.
But in the new areas, even though the canal flowed through them, it only provided water—it couldn’t match the natural fertility of the former lands.
Typically, regular land might yield around 200 pounds per acre. But for these new lands, even reaching 100 pounds per acre would be a problem. More accurately, the seeds planted might not even grow at all.
Achieving a decent harvest would require long-term cultivation to restore the land’s fertility.
This concept was similar to what ancient China called “mature fields” (熟田)—fields that had been cultivated for a long time and were rich in nutrients. Those that hadn’t been cultivated were called “raw fields” (生田).
This world had similar terminology.
Although Thor had taught the people of Eagle Territory how to create soil fertilizers, it was clear that this alone wouldn’t be enough.
In ancient times, food production was extremely difficult. Even without considering ancient times, Thor remembered that in his childhood, wheat production in some regions could only yield 2-3 “jin” (a traditional unit of weight) per acre, while others might yield only a hundred or even less, with some not even producing any wheat seeds at all. There was a term called “pulling wheat” (拔麦子), which described a method of harvesting wheat that was different from cutting. This method was used when the wheat had not been irrigated or had not received sufficient rainfall during growth, resulting in very sparse and stunted plants. The soil, too, was loose and soft from lack of water, and harvesting was done by hand, pulling up each plant one by one. The yield in such conditions was understandably low.
Waiting for Kuwaiti to leave, Thor fell into deep thought.
He picked up a piece of parchment.
As a transmigrator, relying on time like other lords to increase farmland yields was clearly unacceptable to him.
At this moment, he wanted to recall any possible solutions or methods that might help. Perhaps his past life experiences could provide some insight.
But after thinking for a moment, Thor couldn’t help but shake his head in frustration.
Even though he wanted to improve the situation, it wasn’t going to be easy.
In his past life, modern society had many methods for increasing agricultural yields, but now he could barely remember any of them.
He had only remembered about soil fertilization because he had helped his grandmother with it as a child.
As for anything else, such as traditional fertilizers, he had no knowledge of them at all.
But that was understandable—who could have known they would transmigrate into another world?
“It looks like I’ll have to ask Aivira for help.”
Thor muttered softly and set the quill down, standing up from his desk.
Methods from his past life were unreliable in this extraordinary world, but elves, as nature’s favored children—especially forest elves—were naturally close to plants. No one was likely more familiar with this than they were.
Thor believed Aivira had become well-acquainted with Eagle Territory over the time she had spent here.
With Anna’s help, it wouldn’t be difficult to get Aivira involved.
After all, he still relied on her to increase crop yields. It might be best to see if she could help solve the problem once and for all.
Thor stood up and left his study.
After asking the maid, he learned that Aivira and Anna were both in a nearby forest in Eagle Territory.
Aivira seemed to be teaching Anna how to practice magic.
Thor thought for a moment before heading toward the location.
On the western side of Eagle Town, there was a sizable forest.
Anna and Aivira had arrived there early in the morning.
For the past few days, the two had been practicing magic in this area, with Aivira mostly teaching Anna.
Although Anna had contracted an Ice Elemental, she still wasn’t very familiar with magic. Aivira, being a peak-tier third-level mage, had taken it upon herself to teach Anna.
With Aivira’s guidance, Anna’s magical abilities had undoubtedly improved a lot in recent days.
In the midst of the forest, Anna stood holding a magic staff.
Aivira stood beside her.
“Remember, when casting magic, focus your spiritual energy into the staff.”
“Yes, that’s it!”
“You can begin chanting now. This time, don’t hold back. Use all your spiritual power and magical energy!”
Aivira’s soft voice rang out, filled with seriousness.
“Alright!”
“I understand, Aivira!” Anna nodded, focusing as her spiritual energy began to intertwine, and her immense magical power surged within her.
“O great Goddess of Ice and Snow, lend me your wrath, guide us to the lost shores… Blizzard!”
Her clear voice rang through the air.
As she spoke, the wind began to stir around her, slowly building into a fierce gale.
Amidst the howling winds, snowflakes began to appear in the air, gradually intensifying. The snowstorm grew stronger, and the surrounding temperature began to drop rapidly.
This was a third-tier spell: Blizzard.
Unlike ordinary spells, the power of a magic spell grew in proportion to the caster’s rank.
As Anna channeled all her magical and spiritual power, a violent blizzard began to rage within a fifty-meter radius. Trees were swiftly swaying, and layers of frost spread out from Anna, radiating in all directions.
The frost expanded, causing the temperature to plummet even further.
In the forest, insects didn’t have time to react before their bodies were encased in ice.
No, it wasn’t just insects.
Even the plants, the trees, and even the ground itself were quickly frozen.
However, the storm didn’t last long.
Within just ten minutes, the winds and snow started to subside.
At the center of the storm, Anna staggered slightly, nearly falling to the ground.
Fortunately, Aivira quickly caught her.
Even so, Anna’s face was still a little pale.
This third-tier magic had drained all her magical energy and spiritual power.
Although the Ice Elemental’s power was slowly helping her recover, it wasn’t enough to fully restore her energy in time.
“Are you alright, Anna?” Aivira asked, her voice filled with concern.
“I’m fine, Aivira.” Anna took a deep breath, shaking her head as her face, though pale, carried an excited expression.
She had actually cast a third-tier magic! Although she had always felt she could do it, she hadn’t tested it out before, except for her contract with the Ice Elemental. So, in her heart, she had been unsure.
But now, she had finally confirmed it—and how could she not be happy?
“Hehe, Anna is amazing. She could cast a third-tier magic even at the second tier!” Aivira said with a cheerful laugh.
“Thanks to Nia, I wouldn’t have been able to do it otherwise.” Anna, after the excitement, shook her head.
She knew full well that it wasn’t her own ability—without Nia continuously providing her with magical energy, she wouldn’t have been able to cast it.
“Even so, Anna is still very impressive.”
“Only the Queen in our natural forest has been able to contract with a Nature Elemental,” Aivira said seriously, shaking her head.
Just as they were talking, both of them seemed to sense something and looked instinctively into the distance.
Soon, a figure appeared before them.
“Master!” Anna’s face brightened with joy as she quickly ran toward Thor.
Aivira paused for a moment before following.
“Master!” Anna greeted with a radiant smile.
“Thor!” Aivira called out, similarly.
“How did it go, Anna?” Thor asked with a smile, looking at Anna and nodding toward Aivira.
“Thanks to Nia, I can now use third-tier magic,” Anna said excitedly, her voice full of joy.
“Third-tier?” Thor raised an eyebrow, surprised.
“Yes, Anna is amazing, Thor. Look, that’s Anna’s third-tier magic: Blizzard.”
Aivira flew over, equally excited, and gestured to Thor to look ahead.
Only then did Thor notice the chaotic scene before them.
Even Thor couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
“Hehe, it’s not as impressive as Aivira says! It’s Nia who helped me,” Anna said a little embarrassedly.
“Hahaha, Anna really is amazing!” Thor responded with a chuckle, his eyes full of admiration. “But you still need to keep pushing yourself!”
“I will, Master!” Anna nodded earnestly.
“By the way, Master, what brings you here?” Anna asked, curious, looking at Thor.
As she spoke, Aivira also turned to look at him. They both knew that Thor had been very busy recently, so his visit today likely had something important behind it.
“Actually, Aivira, could I ask you for a favor?” Thor nodded, pausing for a moment to collect his thoughts before turning to the elven girl, his voice becoming more serious.
“A favor?” Aivira blinked, pointing at herself as if to confirm. “You want me to help?”
“Yes,” Thor replied. “I’ve heard that forest elves have the ability to help plants grow better and be more fertile. We need to plant some crops in my territory, and I was wondering if you could help speed up their growth and increase their yield.”
Thor smiled as he explained his plan.
“That… of course, I can do that!” Aivira’s eyes lit up, and she smiled back warmly. “Just let me know where to go. It’s quite easy for me.”
Although Anna referred to Thor as her “Master,” Aivira didn’t mind him at all. In fact, after hearing about Anna’s situation, she felt deeply grateful to Thor. If she could help him, she would gladly do so.
“Thank you so much!” Thor smiled, expressing his gratitude.
“It’s nothing,” Aivira responded with a smile. “You helped Anna, and you’re a good person. The elves are always willing to help good people.”
Thor’s lips twitched as he heard Aivira’s words.
“Well, well, looks like I’ve been given the ‘good person card’,” he thought, amused. “And by this elf too! If I remember correctly, the last person to get this card… their grave must be three feet high by now.”
But Thor quickly realized that Aivira didn’t mean anything bad by it.
So, he just chuckled, dismissing his thoughts.
After some further discussion about the agricultural matters and what needed to be done, Thor left.
Aivira immediately set to work helping Thor accelerate the crops’ growth and evolution.
The effect of the elf’s magic was undeniable.
In just three days, the newly planted seeds began to sprout, breaking through the soil. A faint green light glowed from them, and they looked noticeably more vibrant and full of life than before.
It was clear that their yields would see a significant boost.
Even without factoring in the newly reclaimed land, the harvest in the current fields was expected to be much better this year.
Thor couldn’t help but feel a sense of expectation as he recalled the forest elves’ documented effects on plants.
However, amidst his excitement, Thor didn’t forget his other responsibilities.
The time for the Divine Awakening was drawing nearer—less than fifteen days away.
He couldn’t afford to delay any longer; preparations for his journey were necessary.
This was an opportunity he wasn’t willing to miss.
Just as Thor was preparing to set off, another figure appeared in Loren City.
A young man rode in on a white horse, followed by three apprentice knights, all wearing the insignia of the Dresrosa family on their chests.
When the knights and lords saw the insignia, they automatically stepped aside, a deep respect evident in their eyes.
In comparison to the past, with most of the powerful lords now having left, the reputation of the Dresrosa family had only grown. Even in Loren City, most would offer the family their respect.
“Thor, I believe he should be in the eastern part of the city!” Carter muttered to himself, recalling the information in his mind. “I’ll head to the municipal center first.”
He was, of course, the young eagle who had just left the Dresrosa Castle.
A month ago, he had become a qualified apprentice knight after condensing his life seed. Typically, he would have become either a family guard knight or an expansion knight. But instead, he had chosen to follow the path of a wandering knight—one with no set home.
With three apprentice knights now accompanying him, he set off for the Northern Province.
