FLDI Chapter 175

This entry is part 176 of 211 in the series Fantasy Lord: Start with Daily Intelligence

A chill swept through the battlefield, as both Thor and Raine showcased their overwhelming power. It wasn’t just the ordinary Minotaurs that were affected—even the second-tier Minotaurs standing before them were no exception.

“Boom!”

Thunder crackled, and a second-tier Minotaur’s eyes widened as its body was pierced through.

In a single strike, Raine had pierced through its body in an instant.

Next to him, Thor had also brought down a second-tier Minotaur, its corpse encased in a layer of frost that spread over its body, the chill of death emanating from it.

The small group of over twenty knights swept through the battlefield like wolves among sheep.

In the blink of an eye, they had cleared a large area.

A knight regiment that had been fighting hard suddenly found their enemies thinning out.

The captain of the knights, bewildered, looked up and instantly saw Thor and Raine cutting through the Minotaur ranks like they were slicing through vegetables.

“It’s him!”

The captain’s voice rang out, his heart jolting in shock.

He couldn’t hide the astonishment in his eyes.

He hadn’t paid much attention to Thor’s strength before, as it wasn’t uncommon for a noble heir to suppress their life force.

He had assumed that, given Thor’s age, he would barely reach the level of a formal knight at most.

But now, it was clear that he was wrong. The terrifying life force Thor possessed, though not quite on the level of an Earth Knight, still made the captain, who was a peak Grand Knight, feel a tremor of fear.

But Thor wasn’t the only one who drew attention.

Many of the knight squads noticed too.

One by one, they were left stunned.

However, Thor paid no mind to the astonishment around him. His figure, spear in hand, moved in coordination with Raine, with Steve and Pelos leading their own groups of knights.

They pressed forward.

Thor had only one target: to eliminate the second-tier Minotaurs.

After all, each second-tier Minotaur was worth about ten points of merit.

With only a few hundred points remaining, if he could take down a few dozen second-tier Minotaurs, he would have enough.

With Thor and his group acting as the vanguard, the pressure on the other knights was greatly reduced.

The Minotaur tribe, instead of advancing, began to be pushed back.

The captain’s spear swung again, taking down another second-tier Minotaur.

Thor glanced around and then spoke in a low voice.

“Raine!”

Raine immediately ran over.

“Sir!”

“Lead the others and continue taking down the second-tier Minotaurs.”

“I’ll go help Brother Bryan!”

Thor spoke, issuing the command.

“Understood!”

Raine nodded in response without hesitation.

Thor then detached himself from the fight, charging toward Bryan’s position.

Bryan was engaged in combat with a third-tier Minotaur and two peak second-tier Minotaurs. Despite having recently broken through to the next tier, Bryan had managed to suppress them for a short time, but as the battle dragged on, it was clear he was beginning to struggle.

Though it seemed that if the other knights cleared the second-tier Minotaurs, they could assist Bryan soon enough, there was no time to waste.

Thor wasn’t going to wait any longer.

For one, he didn’t want any unexpected setbacks.

As Bryan was his brother, Thor couldn’t afford for anything to go wrong.

For another…

The third-tier Minotaur alone was worth fifty points of merit.

In fact, his decision proved to be the right one.

The moment Thor moved, the three peak second-tier Minotaurs in the distance suddenly began to change. One of them began emanating a burst of bloodlust, its body growing taller as a ferocious aura surrounded it.

“This is bad!”

Bryan’s face changed, and he instinctively moved to act.

However, the third-tier Minotaur leader, wielding a spiked club, swung it down toward Bryan, while the two peak second-tier Minotaurs attacked from the sides.

Bryan’s efforts to stop them were cut short.

“Damn it!”

Bryan’s face darkened, and he poured all of his life force into a burst of energy to intercept the attack of the three Minotaurs.

“Boom!”

The spear and the spiked club collided, releasing a terrifying shockwave of life force.

The third-tier Minotaur leader staggered back from the impact.

But before Bryan could feel any relief, the two second-tier Minotaurs were already upon him.

He was forced to brace himself to meet the next wave.

And at the same time…

The Minotaur leader, now nearly twice as large as before, brought its massive club down toward Bryan’s head.

Bryan could only twist his body at the last moment to avoid the blow, but the sheer force meant he could only avoid the fatal strike, knowing he would still be severely wounded.

And a heavy injury on the battlefield was almost always a death sentence.

But just as Bryan gritted his teeth, preparing to accept the outcome, something unexpected happened.

The space before him suddenly cleared.

And just as quickly, the Minotaur that had been attacking him froze in place.

“A chance!”

Bryan’s eyes lit up, and without hesitation, his life force surged again.

“Thwip!”

His spear shot forward like a flash, piercing the frozen second-tier Minotaur’s body with explosive force, sending it flying with a spray of crimson blood.

“Boom!”

With the spray of blood came the sound of air being violently compressed.

The Minotaur that had attacked him missed completely.

Feeling the gust of wind from the missed attack, Bryan couldn’t hide the surprise that crossed his face.

He hadn’t expected to survive this close call.

The second-tier Minotaur that had been surrounding him suddenly halted for no apparent reason.

If it had continued its assault, the outcome would have been clear: Even if his head wasn’t crushed, his body would have been shattered.

But now, he had a chance to survive.

Bryan, momentarily stunned, then turned his gaze toward the second-tier Minotaur whose body was now pierced.

“What’s this?”

As he noticed the frost on the Minotaur’s body and the chilling air emanating from the spear, Bryan couldn’t help but pause in confusion.

But fortunately, his confusion was brief.

“Brother Bryan, leave the Minotaur leader to me!”

“You focus on the other two!”

Thor’s voice rang out, and he appeared at Bryan’s side, his life force erupting in waves. White frost spread beneath his feet, and the temperature of the air around him seemed to plummet.

“Thor, get back!”

“Stop, you!”

Bryan’s expression shifted when he heard Thor’s voice, and instinctively, he tried to call him back. But halfway through his words, he stopped, stunned by the terrifying aura emanating from Thor.

At that moment, Bryan realized what had happened. The frost he had noticed on the second-tier Minotaur and the sudden halt of its movement clicked in his mind.

His eyes widened with shock.

Thor had grown far more powerful than he had anticipated.

Thor ignored Bryan’s astonishment, his figure stepping forward as he charged directly toward the third-tier Minotaur leader.

Now at the peak of mid-level Grand Knight, Thor was only a step away from the late stage of a Grand Knight. With his ice-element life force, he wasn’t afraid to face even a true Earth Knight. And as for a third-tier Minotaur, it was nothing.

With a surge of life force, the ice-cold aura expanded from him, and frost spread along the length of his spear.

With every step he took, the frost spread further.

“Galiwu!”

A strange sound escaped from the third-tier Minotaur leader, whose eyes were wild with fury. It swung its spiked club toward Thor with all its might.

“Boom!”

The knight’s spear met the club, and the chilling air swept over the battlefield as the two weapons collided.

The spiked club was visibly covered in frost, which spread up the weapon, eventually reaching the third-tier Minotaur leader’s arm.

The chill seeped deep, and the third-tier Minotaur leader felt a shiver run through its massive body.

Instinctively, it tried to unleash its bloodlust.

But at that moment, it suddenly felt the frost creeping up from beneath its feet.

The frost spread quickly, eventually solidifying into ice.

The Minotaur leader’s body went stiff and frozen in place.

“Crack!”

The bloodlust exploded, shattering the ice instantaneously.

But in that brief moment, Thor had already used his spear to strike the spiked club aside and drove his weapon directly toward the Minotaur’s chest.

“Boom!”

“Pfft!”

The spear pierced deep into the Minotaur’s chest. It was momentarily slowed by resistance, but only for an instant. Then it pierced cleanly through.

Without hesitation, Thor kicked off the ground, his body soaring as he drove the spear deeper into the Minotaur’s chest.

“Crash!”

The third-tier Minotaur leader was flung back, slamming into the ground with Thor’s spear still driven into its body.

At the same time, a wave of terrifying cold emanated from all sides, freezing the Minotaur’s body from within.

The immense body struggled, its movements becoming sluggish as the cold quickly froze its blood.

The spear within the Minotaur’s body continued to release waves of frost, spreading through its veins.

It tried to resist, but there was nothing it could do.

The mighty blood that flowed within the beast’s muscular frame slowly began to congeal, and frost spread across its exterior.

Finally, the third-tier Minotaur became completely frozen, its body stiff and immobile.

Thor let out a quiet breath of relief, then gently pulled his spear free.

Even after the spear was removed, no blood flowed from the wound, as the freezing chill had solidified everything inside the Minotaur.

In this period of time, Thor’s power with the ice-element life force had grown significantly, reaching a terrifying level.

Even a third-tier Minotaur—or even an Earth Knight—would easily succumb to being frozen by his ice elemental life force, as was evident now. The third-tier Minotaur had nearly been entirely frozen in place by the power Thor wielded.

“Huff!”

Thor exhaled deeply and glanced toward the distance.

There, Bryan was still engaged in battle with the mutated second-tier Minotaur, which had reached its peak state.

Bryan’s strength was far superior to that of the mutated second-tier Minotaur, and even though it had mutated, it was still no match for him.

However, the mutated Minotaur fought recklessly, with no regard for its life, while a second-tier peak Minotaur continued to support it. Despite Bryan’s advantage, they hadn’t been able to defeat them just yet.

Thor pondered for a moment, then gripped his spear tightly and charged toward the battle.

Boom.

Thor’s figure swiftly entered the battlefield.

The powerful aura he released instantly froze the second-tier peak Minotaur.

Bryan’s eyes brightened. Without a second thought, he unleashed his own powerful life force, his spear shooting forward and piercing through the Minotaur before it could react.

Its head exploded in an instant.

At that moment, only the mutated Minotaur remained.

“Brother Bryan, let’s finish this together!”

Thor called out, stepping forward with renewed determination.

Now that there was only one mutated second-tier Minotaur left, even though it had undergone a mutation, it was no match for the combined strength of the two of them. The outcome was already sealed.

It didn’t take long before the Minotaur was eliminated.

Meanwhile, the thousands of Minotaurs from this tribe were systematically slain by the various knight regiments.

The team Thor led stood out in particular.

Their performance had changed the way the other knights looked at them.

As the battle raged on at this particular defensive point, similar battles broke out across the entire fortress. In the distance, several fourth-tier Orc tribes appeared.

Fortunately, the kingdom’s forces were strong enough to hold the line, though at a considerable cost.

By evening, when the battlefield had been cleared, an unexpected piece of news quickly spread through the entire fortress.

“The Kingdom’s third wave of reinforcements?”

Upon hearing the news Bryan had brought back, Thor paused for a moment.

“It should be,” Bryan replied hesitantly. “I heard several noble heirs have arrived.”

Thor raised an eyebrow. “Several noble heirs?”

Bryan continued with some uncertainty, “But there’s something off. If this is the third wave of reinforcements, it should be a large-scale force, yet the movement feels unusually quiet. It doesn’t seem like it’s the scale we were expecting.”

Thor’s gaze sharpened as Bryan spoke. The mention of noble heirs, combined with the strange situation, made him pause, his mind racing with a sudden realization.
