Chapter 36: Two Months of Territorial Development
The journey of a frontier knight is undoubtedly arduous. After all, those who choose to become frontier knights are rarely heirs to noble families and thus have limited resources at their disposal. Even noble knights from counties governed by earls struggle greatly, with only those from marquis territories faring slightly better.
However, Thor was an exception.
When he left Frostmoon Province, Count Engel Dressrosa provided him with substantial support. Coupled with his memories from a past life and the daily intelligence system, his advantages far surpassed those of other nobles.
In fact, even frontier knights from marquis territories could hardly compare to him.
This became apparent after just two months, as Thor’s territory had already begun to take shape. It was a stark contrast to other noble territories, which, even with marquis-level support, would take at least six months—if not longer—to reach the same level of development.
For Thor, however, all of this seemed like a natural progression.
After securing the large iron mine and acquiring the goblins, the pace of his territory’s growth accelerated even further.
Initially, Thor hadn’t planned on selling the iron ore, but with the high-quality ore from the mine and the goblins’ craftsmanship, they were able to produce all the tools necessary for the territory’s construction.
In just two months, the changes in his domain were significant.
At its center, a towering castle had been completed just two weeks earlier. Surrounding the castle, various houses had sprung up, forming the structure of a small town.
Freemen and peasants alike worked in the fields with smiles on their faces.
The wheat in the fields was growing splendidly, far exceeding everyone’s expectations. It was clear that by the end of the year, they could expect a substantial harvest, providing a solid income for the territory.
By this point, Eagle Ridge had truly begun to take shape.
Nearly 300 freemen and 3,000 peasants formed the foundation of this land. Unlike other territories, both freemen and peasants in Eagle Ridge felt a strong sense of belonging. They held their lord in high regard and with a near-religious fervor.
The opportunity for peasants to earn their freedom and the chance to learn the knight’s breathing techniques were things they never would have dared to imagine.
On top of that, their lord even provided them with women.
Yes, women.
After acquiring the iron mine, Thor made another trip to Loren City, this time purchasing a large number of female slaves. The price for women was higher than for men, but it depended on their appearance. For those with average looks, the cost was not too steep.
With a grand gesture, Thor purchased 500 female slaves and brought them back.
He kept 100 for managing the affairs of his castle and distributed the remaining 400 to members of his knight order. Even some of the peasants who had recently joined the reserve knight order received female slaves.
Thor, their lord, also promised that any peasant who worked for ten years would be eligible to become a freeman and would be given a female slave as a reward. Those who performed exceptionally well would receive their freedom even earlier.
This news, even more enticing than the promise of freedom, kept morale high. Even after a month, the enthusiasm hadn’t waned.
For Thor, spending a few gold coins to win the hearts and loyalty of his people was a small price to pay.
Moreover, it would help his territory truly flourish.
After all, a domain cannot thrive solely on the labor of slaves and knights—it also needs families to create a stable population. Only then could his land sustain itself, instead of constantly requiring new purchases.
Thor, being a transmigrator, understood this better than anyone else.
So from the beginning, he had been planning for this.
As night passed and summer drew to a close, the northern province began to feel a bit chilly.
Under the starry sky, Thor sat in meditation, practicing the knight’s breathing technique.
After a while, he exhaled a deep breath and slowly opened his eyes.
Feeling the life energy within his body, he shook his head slightly.
His natural talent in this body really was lacking. Even with all the advantages he had—from various enhancements to consuming the life fruit and other items rich in life energy—his progress was still far from ideal.
At this rate, it would take him another two or three years to reach the level of an official knight.
And that was with all the aids he’d consumed—without them, who knows how long it would take.
But this was normal. Geniuses are rare in any world, and most people are simply average.
His talent was just that—ordinary.
“I wonder when the daily intelligence will provide me with something to help with my training,” Thor murmured to himself, his eyes shifting to the latest update from the intelligence system.
And as if on cue, the daily intelligence refreshed before his eyes.
【Daily Intelligence Updated】
One by one, the notifications appeared.
As the night gave way to dawn, Eagle Ridge buzzed with activity, its people filled with hope and excitement for the future.
In the newly formed households, joy and laughter echoed.
According to the latest intelligence, Thor had planned to visit the upper reaches of the Maine River, where a group of green goblins had reappeared. He needed to lead his knights to clear them out before they could threaten the territory’s development.
However, before he could act, Raine came rushing over with urgent news, forcing Thor to pause.
“You’re saying the old man has woken up?” Thor asked, surprised, turning to Raine.
“Yes, my lord!” Raine confirmed with a quick nod.
Upon hearing this, Thor’s face lit up with joy. After all, he had invested quite a bit in this mysterious old man, and after months of unconsciousness, he had started to worry that his efforts were in vain. But now, the old man had finally awoken.
“Raine!” Thor called after a moment of thought.
“My lord!” Raine quickly responded.
“A group of green goblins has appeared in the upper reaches of the Maine River. This time, I want you to lead the knights to eliminate them. Make sure they don’t affect the territory.”
“Understood!” Raine nodded firmly.
With that, Raine departed, taking his forces to deal with the goblins in the Maine River valley.
