Chapter 46: The Loren City Auction
In this familiar place, Thor and his party quickly settled in. As the sun set and evening arrived, the day gradually came to an end.
“Daily Intelligence System has been updated!”
The words flickered, and a new set of intelligence reports appeared.
However, there wasn’t any new information that particularly excited Thor this time. This was expected, though. After all, it was just an auction, one that Loren City held every year. Having a boy with the affinity for living things and the Thunderstone was already a surprise. As for anything else, there probably wouldn’t be much else of great value.
Night passed quietly.
A new day arrived.
As dawn broke, the area around the Habs Trading Company was already packed with people.
Many pioneering knights and nobles had gathered here, each with a look of anticipation and excitement on their faces.
“Did you hear?” one person said.
“What is it?” another replied.
“Heh, I guess you haven’t heard. The Habs Trading Company announced a few days ago that this auction will feature three bottles of mid-tier life potions and thirty bottles of low-tier life potions,” the first person explained.
“Is that true?”
“Of course it’s true. The Habs Trading Company wouldn’t lie.”
“My god, three bottles! This is going to be interesting. Those noble lords will probably go crazy for them.”
As the chatter continued, Thor, along with Raine and Niel Morton, stood among the crowd, listening. Thor wasn’t too surprised by the conversation. Life potions, no matter where, were always incredibly valuable.
A mid-tier life potion alone was enough to spark fierce competition.
This was true even in the Frostmoon Province, and the Northern Province was no exception.
What puzzled him, however, was that no one mentioned the Thunderstone.
Still, he didn’t dwell on it. Thor, along with Raine and Niel Morton, followed a servant into the auction hall.
They were led to the second floor, where private rooms were reserved for families like the Dresrosa family, who held the title of count or higher, as well as other high-ranking noble families.
Pioneering lords, on the other hand, had to remain on the first floor.
“Sir Thor, here is the catalog of today’s auction items. Feel free to browse and see if anything catches your eye. If you need anything, just call for me—I’ll be right outside,” the servant said respectfully, handing Thor the catalog before quietly leaving.
With a smile, Thor opened the catalog and began flipping through it.
There were 21 items listed for auction.
Thor scanned each item, and his attention quickly settled on the fourth and sixteenth items.
The fourth item was a group of slaves, the only male slave auction. It featured 500 strong farmhands, reportedly skilled in advanced farming techniques, with a starting bid of 200 gold coins.
The sixteenth item was none other than the Thunderstone, with a starting bid of 1,000 gold coins.
Seeing the price, Thor couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
He still had about 5,000 gold coins left, which should be more than enough.
Feeling more at ease, the auction soon began.
A blonde girl took the stage.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the Habs Trading Company auction is now officially open! Let us welcome our first item: ten beautiful female slaves. The starting bid is three gold coins, with a minimum increment of one silver coin.”
Her sweet voice rang out, and soon after, ten attractive female slaves were brought onto the platform.
Bids quickly followed.
“Three gold coins!”
“Four!”
“Five gold coins!”
The auction proceeded swiftly.
Thor had no interest in the first item, so he didn’t participate.
The first item was eventually sold for five gold coins and twenty silver coins.
The second item was also a group of female slaves, this time with even higher attractiveness and a larger number. However, Thor still wasn’t interested.
It wasn’t until the fourth item was brought up that Thor’s expression grew serious.
“These strong slaves come from the Southern Moon Province, known for their advanced farming techniques. The starting bid is 200 gold coins, with a minimum increment of one gold coin,” the auctioneer announced.
The hall fell silent.
Five hundred farmhands with advanced farming skills were indeed valuable, but the starting bid of 200 gold coins was steep.
Nevertheless, skilled farmers were something every lord needed.
“I bid 200 gold coins!” someone called out after a brief pause.
“I bid 220 gold coins.”
“230!”
“240!”
“I bid 250!”
“251!”
“252!”
The bids continued, though the increments became smaller.
Two hundred gold coins was no small sum, and even with advanced farming skills, it would take more than a year or two to recoup that cost.
As the bidding started to quiet down, a voice came from Thor’s room.
“300 gold coins!” Raine called out.
At that moment, the auction hall fell silent.
Many people shook their heads in disappointment, while others glanced toward the room from which the voice had come, eyes filled with curiosity.
“Any higher bids?” the auctioneer asked. “These are strong slaves with advanced farming skills, an invaluable asset to any territory.”
But no one responded.
Three hundred gold coins was already the limit.
The auctioneer didn’t press the matter further. She struck her gavel and began counting down.
“300 gold coins, going once!”
“300 gold coins, going twice!”
“300 gold coins, sold!”
“Congratulations to the buyer on winning this lot!”
“Now, onto the fifth item!”
The auction continued as the sound of the gavel echoed again.
At that moment, a servant knocked on Thor’s door.
Thor gestured, and Raine quickly stepped forward, handing the remaining gold coins to the servant.
The servant bowed respectfully and left.
The auction proceeded, with more items being sold—various resources and equipment.
Thor even noticed some black iron and silver armor up for auction.
These were the seventh and eleventh items.
Twenty sets of average-quality black iron armor and three sets of equally average silver armor were auctioned off.
Despite their mediocre quality, the black iron armor fetched ten gold coins, and the three sets of silver armor sold for 1,000 gold coins.
Yes, a thousand gold coins for three average-quality silver armors. Even Thor was a bit envious.
It was practically daylight robbery.
Considering that each set of silver armor sold for over 300 gold coins, Thor figured he could sell his at no less than 400 gold coins—it would be overly generous otherwise.
