Chapter 57: Baron Pape Lawrence in Shock

At the mining site, figures were swiftly preparing themselves, while ahead, Baron Pape Lawrence led his forces in a grand procession, rapidly approaching the mines.

“Father, should we send the vanguard to probe the area first?” Lawrence asked cautiously, observing the quiet surroundings and addressing his father.

“Yes!”

“Rosen!”

Baron Pape Lawrence nodded and then looked at a knight beside him.

“At your command!”

The knight quickly responded.

“Take your men and scout ahead,” the baron ordered swiftly.

“Yes, my lord!”

With that, the knight rallied twenty riders and swiftly galloped into the distance. However, something unexpected occurred.

Though they had clearly been spotted, they encountered no enemies along the way.

It was as if all the knights from the Eagle Territory had vanished.

“My lord, we found no enemies!”

“But we did discover clear signs of mining!”

Rosen quickly returned and eagerly reported to Baron Pape Lawrence.

“Hahaha!”

“The Goddess of Life has blessed us!”

Baron Pape Lawrence burst into laughter, excitement flashing across his face.

No amount of speculation could compare to the excitement of confirmed knowledge.

If it was just a guess before, now it was confirmed.

The signs of mining and everything else pointed to the presence of a large iron mine right here.

“The lord of the Eagle Territory likely heard of your arrival and retreated in advance!” Lawrence suggested with a smile.

“Hahaha, it seems our neighbor, a descendant of Dressrosa, is no fool.”

“I must thank him. I never expected there to be such a large iron mine here. Once we take it, our Lawrence family will produce yet another viscount.”

Baron Pape Lawrence’s smile grew broader, and a sense of relief spread through him.

After all, the opponent was a member of the powerful Dressrosa family, whose pioneering knights were not weak. A battle with them would certainly incur losses, though for a large iron mine, such losses would be acceptable.

But if it could be taken without any losses, all the better.

“Advance at full speed!”

Baron Pape Lawrence drew his knight’s sword from his waist and gave the command.

The large force then moved swiftly.

As they drew closer…

On a hillside…

Steve’s eyes also gleamed with excitement.

To ensure that this entire force would be caught, he had withdrawn all the surrounding patrols.

Now, as Baron Pape Lawrence’s force entered the target range…

He raised his hand.

The next moment…

“Boom!”

“Boom!”

“Boom!”

Three magical crystal cannons suddenly roared to life, their blue magical arrays lighting up. In an instant, three booming shots fired, sending terrifying beams of light towards the distant enemies.

From afar…

Baron Pape Lawrence, who had been approaching with his forces, instinctively sensed something was wrong.

He looked up.

In that very moment, his expression changed dramatically.

“What… is this?”

The smile on his face first shifted to confusion, then to a wave of unprecedented terror that coursed through his entire being.

“No!”

With a cry of alarm, he leapt toward Lawrence, dragging him off his horse.

But while he reacted in time, the others did not.

“Boom!”

“Rumble!”

A terrifying blue light engulfed everything, and thunder crackled throughout the area.

The more than three thousand men were instantly swallowed by the blasts.

The deafening roar echoed as dirt, trees, and limbs were hurled in every direction.

The magical crystal cannons’ power was beyond imagination. As a strategic resource of the Tulip Kingdom, they were weapons capable of threatening even Behemoths. Against mere slaves, apprentice knights, and ordinary knights, their destructive force was overwhelming.

Even with just three cannons, they were absolute weapons of mass destruction.

In mere moments, the majority of the three thousand men were ripped apart.

Thunder and lightning devastated everything in their path.

Explosions continued to spread across the battlefield.

On the hillside…

Steve drew his knight’s sword.

“The Lord has decreed: kill one enemy, gain three merit points. Capture one alive, gain five merit points.”

“None are to be spared!”

His voice rang out, and in the next instant, Steve led several thousand men charging down the hill.

The distance of over a thousand meters was closed in an instant.

Baron Pape Lawrence’s forces, now fewer than three thousand, were still caught in the shock, screams, and confusion when Steve and his men descended upon them.

On the ground…

Baron Pape Lawrence and his eldest son, Lawrence, lay blackened and charred.

Even though they had reacted swiftly and Baron Pape Lawrence had used all his life force to defend them, the thunder still shattered his life force shield, leaving him gravely injured.

Lawrence fared worse; his upper body was almost completely charred, and he was barely clinging to life.

Despite falling and shielding themselves from much of the lightning, a magical crystal cannon had exploded near them.

Had they not reacted quickly, they might already be in the underworld.

As it was, they were considered fortunate to still be alive.

Many others, however, were not so lucky—their bodies completely incinerated.

The sound of hooves echoed as Eagle Territory knights and slaves rushed down the hill.

The remaining forces were quickly surrounded.

Faced with the overwhelming numbers, the slaves were the first to drop their weapons and prostrate themselves on the ground.

Some knights tried to resist.

But Steve’s forces quickly suppressed them.

In the end, none escaped.

The terrifying power of the magical crystal cannons had left them utterly stunned.

The battle ended faster than anyone had expected.

From start to finish, less than a quarter of an hour had passed.

And it was over.

Baron Pape Lawrence, who had come with such confidence, believing the Goddess of Life had blessed him, found himself a prisoner instead.

Such an outcome was beyond even his wildest imaginings.

At the mining site…

Thor soon received the news.

This time, he had not led the charge.

The enemy they faced wasn’t a group of cowardly goblins but a true knightly order.

Even with the magical crystal cannons, there was always the risk of unexpected dangers.

He had no intention of risking his own life.

So, he had stayed back at the mining site to wait.

When Steve returned to report, Thor couldn’t help but smile.
