Chapter 6: The Future Sky Knight
On this continent, extraordinary power is embodied in the form of knights, and the hierarchy of knights is strictly divided.
Starting from an apprentice knight who has formed a Seed of Life, the ranks ascend: Apprentice Knight, Knight, Grand Knight, Earth Knight, Sky Knight, and finally, Sanctuary Knight.
Reaching the rank of Earth Knight already places one among the kingdom’s top-tier combatants. Thor’s father, Engel Dressrosa, was a peak Earth Knight, which already made him incredibly powerful.
But if Earth Knights are elite, then Sky Knights are the kingdom’s true might. Each Sky Knight represents the foundation upon which a kingdom’s survival depends. Thor never expected that today’s daily report would mention a future Sky Knight. And even more surprising, it was the same person who had missed out on the Life Fruit due to Thor’s interference.
According to the report, by taking the Life Fruit, Thor had altered this person’s fate.
Originally, this individual should have consumed the Life Fruit and had their destiny changed. But now, their future had reverted to its original tragic path.
“Maybe I can do something about this,”
Thor muttered, feeling a surge of excitement.
For a moment, he felt an impulse to set out immediately.
However, after some thought, he decided to hold back. He called for his servant to help him wash up and prepared for the next day.
Night passed, and as the morning sunlight filtered into the room, Thor woke from his slumber.
Today, he didn’t train as usual. Now that he had become an apprentice knight, he no longer needed the regular training sessions.
After checking the daily report, Thor set off again with his three knights, heading towards Lucerne Town.
An hour later, Thor arrived.
The town’s steward greeted Thor nervously, clearly on edge about his return.
“Steward, I need to find a boy named Raine. His father’s name is Hunter,”
Thor said calmly from atop his horse.
“Yes, Master Thor, I will find them for you immediately!”
The steward, though puzzled, nodded and hurried off.
Half an hour later, the steward returned with some documents.
“Master Thor, Hunter lives in the village of Fallen Leaves, on the west side of town. Please, follow me!”
The steward spoke respectfully.
“Very well.”
Thor nodded, then urged his horse forward, following the steward.
…..
Meanwhile, at Fallen Leaves Village…
In a rundown house, chaos was unfolding.
*Thud!*
“Useless! You’re worthless! You can’t even buy me a drink!”
An angry voice echoed through the house, followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.
A middle-aged man with a bloated, red nose and disheveled hair was shouting furiously. Before him, a boy curled up in the corner, silent and withdrawn.
“Speak up! Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Where’s the booze?”
The man’s rage continued to grow. In his fury, he grabbed a bottle and hurled it at the boy.
*Crash!*
The bottle shattered on the boy’s head, drawing a muffled groan from him as shards of glass cut his skin. Blood trickled down, mixing with the spilled liquor.
Yet even with the blood flowing, the middle-aged man showed no concern.
“Useless! You’re all useless, Ryan! Without me, you would’ve starved to death by now!”
“Now go! Get me more booze!”
The man’s voice rose again, but the boy remained huddled in the corner, not moving.
This only fueled the man’s anger further.
“What? You don’t want to go?”
“If you won’t get the drink, I’ll sell you off! I’ve heard nobles are quite fond of boys like you!”
“Now hurry!”
As he spoke, the man picked up another bottle, ready to hurl it again.
But just as the bottle flew, a white flash cut through the air, and the bottle shattered mid-flight.
A low voice followed.
“Stop.”
The middle-aged man froze for a moment, surprised. Then his anger flared again.
“Well, well! So you’ve brought outsiders into my house, huh? Looks like you’ve really lost all respect for me, Ryan!”
He reached for another bottle, but this time, a cold voice rang out.
“I said, stop. Didn’t you hear me?”
The voice was filled with icy authority.
Suddenly, several figures entered the small room.
Through his drunken haze, the man finally saw who had entered, and the sight sobered him instantly.
*Thud!*
The bottle fell from his hand, and he dropped to the floor, groveling.
“My lord!”
The middle-aged man’s body shook with fear, and his mind was overcome with terror.
Thor, however, didn’t even glance at him.
He stepped past the man and approached the boy in the corner.
“Are you all right?”
Thor’s voice was gentle.
The boy, Raine, lifted his head suddenly. Realizing who Thor was, he tried to kneel in gratitude. But his long hunger and the recent beating had left him too weak, and he collapsed forward.
Thor quickly caught him.
After checking Raine’s condition, Thor let out a sigh of relief. The boy wasn’t seriously injured—just unconscious.
He handed Raine over to one of his knights and then turned to another knight.
“Give him a gold coin. From now on, Raine will no longer have anything to do with him.”
Thor’s voice was calm.
“Yes, sir!”
The knight nodded and tossed a gold coin onto the floor.
The middle-aged man scrambled forward, his eyes lighting up. He scooped up the coin, his words full of gratitude.
“My lord, it’s Raine’s honor to follow you! Don’t worry, I’ll never contact him again!”
The man thanked Thor profusely, clutching the coin like a lifeline.
Thor ignored him.
To Thor, people like this man weren’t worth his attention.
The gold coin was only given out of consideration for the boy, Raine. That was the extent of Thor’s generosity.
Carrying Raine, Thor and his knights left quickly.
Meanwhile, the middle-aged man remained in his house, staring at the gleaming gold coin. He even bit it to confirm it was real, unable to hide the joy on his face.
But little did he know what he had just lost.
The boy he had so despised was destined to become a Sky Knight—a figure who would one day stand among the kingdom’s elite.
Of course, the man could never have imagined that his worthless son would one day rise to such heights.
In his mind, this “useless” son had been traded for more than he ever hoped for—a gold coin.
