**Chapter 77: New Information**
The castle fell into a heavy silence, both barons sitting quietly, their faces grim. It was a while before Baron Glaton finally spoke, his voice hoarse.
“Maybe we still have a chance. That minotaur tribe is only the remnants of a failed war. They’re not very strong, and it seems there are no third-rank minotaurs among them,” he said softly.
His voice, though low, echoed clearly throughout the castle.
However, his words were quickly met with a bitter smile and a shake of the head from Baron Valmy.
“Impossible. Even if they are remnants from a defeated tribe, they’re still far beyond what we can handle. Even without a third-rank minotaur, the number of second-rank minotaurs is definitely significant,” Valmy said with a resigned tone.
Having spent more time in the Northern Province than Baron Glaton, Valmy was well aware of the terrifying strength of the orc tribes.
As he said, even a defeated orc tribe was far beyond what they could manage. While they did have great knights, who could potentially deal with second-rank orcs, it all depended on the number of enemies.
One or two second-rank orcs, or even three or four, could be managed. But a minotaur tribe would not have only three or four second-rank warriors. Seven or eight, or perhaps even more, would be expected, even from a defeated tribe.
“But we can’t simply abandon everything, can we?” Glaton sighed, speaking slowly.
“If we don’t abandon the land, maybe there’s still a chance,” Valmy said hesitantly, a thought crossing his mind.
“A chance?” Glaton asked instinctively.
“Yes, a chance. Do you remember the heir of the Dresrosa family we encountered before?” Valmy nodded as he recalled.
“I remember. But why bring him up?” Glaton’s face darkened. It was the first time he’d ever suffered such humiliation, having been forced to sign a contract with Thor.
“That man is different from us. It’s clear he has support from the Dresrosa family, and he even possesses magical crystal cannons. I doubt he would want to see his territory fall. If we unite with him and the other frontier lords, we might actually have a chance to defend ourselves,” Valmy said, his voice growing more hopeful as he spoke. His eyes began to shine with a glimmer of hope.
“This…” Glaton hesitated, but as he mulled over Valmy’s words, his expression began to change. He paced back and forth, thinking.
Valmy didn’t interrupt, giving him time to process.
Finally, after a few moments, Glaton stopped pacing.
“Magic crystal cannons and great knights… It could work! Valmy, we should do it. I don’t want to abandon my land. Let’s talk to Baron Pape about this, gather the other frontier lords, and then approach Thor. If he agrees, we’ll follow his lead, give him whatever he asks for,” Glaton said decisively, finally reaching a decision.
“Agreed!” Valmy nodded. At this point, giving up their lands seemed like the worst possible outcome.
Without further delay, they quickly set off.
A day later, Baron Glaton and Baron Valmy arrived at the castle of Baron Pape Lawrence.
Pape Lawrence himself was in a state of panic. Even though his power far exceeded that of Valmy and Glaton, he was no match for an orc tribe, and the thought of abandoning his lands was unbearable.
When the two barons explained their plan, Pape’s eyes lit up with hope, and he quickly agreed.
With the three noble lords of the Maine River Valley united, the other frontier lords were soon summoned.
After hearing the plan, most of the frontier lords agreed to join the alliance, though a few remained hesitant. For the vast majority, abandoning the land they had spent years building was not an option unless there was no other choice.
Once the alliance was formed, the three barons made their way to Eagle Ridge to meet with Thor.
Meanwhile, in Eagle Ridge, Thor was unaware of the unfolding events. After assigning the new personnel his father had sent, Thor turned his focus to stockpiling supplies.
Reports from Racios Assad kept coming in, and as the predicted attack grew closer, Thor’s anxiety deepened. Three days earlier, a particularly alarming report had arrived, shaking Thor to his core.
Compared to Barons Valmy and Glaton, Thor had access to far more information, thanks to Racios’ extensive trade network and intelligence-gathering capabilities.
And because he knew more, Thor was even more terrified.
The number of minotaurs had increased rapidly, and there were now ten second-rank minotaurs in the tribe, three of which were at the second-rank peak. This level of strength was nearly impossible to defend against.
Even if all the forces of the Maine River Valley, including Pelos, were gathered, they could muster only five great knights. And while his magical crystal cannons might hold off ten second-rank minotaurs, they would be insufficient against three second-rank peak warriors, especially since he had only second-rank mana cores, and not many of them.
“Damn it… Do I really have to abandon Eagle Ridge?” Thor muttered to himself, his face pale.
The situation was far worse than he had anticipated, and what he had thought might be a mere incursion could end up being catastrophic.
As Thor frowned and mulled over his options, midnight approached.
*Ding! The intelligence system has been updated!*
“Would you like to open it?”
The mechanical voice rang out, as it did every night.
“Open it!” Thor said, pushing aside his anxiety.
As he spoke, the familiar glow of the intelligence report appeared.
