**Chapter 79: The Half-Elf Girl’s Submission**
“Not bad, that fire wall spell! You can already cast a first-level spell instantly,” Thor remarked, clicking his tongue in admiration.
“You…!” Anna, still in shock, tried to speak but found herself at a loss for words.
“You’ve done well these past few months. I’ve lifted the slave contract—after all, some of the peasants have had theirs lifted as well. It wouldn’t be right to single you out,” Thor said with a calm smile. “As for who you are, I don’t care. Elf or not, even if you’re a descendant of the Karenina family, you only have one identity here—that of a subject of Thor Dresrosa.”
“Oh, and by the way, I’ve only lifted your slave status. That doesn’t mean you’re free to leave. You still owe me a few years of work; otherwise, I’d be losing out. Get ready. I’m going on a trip soon, and you’ll be coming with me,” Thor added with a laugh, not seeming too concerned.
The appearance of the Nature Spirit had opened up an opportunity for him—a chance to maximize the benefits.
He had come to understand this elf girl over the past few months. Despite the hardships she had endured, she remained kind and pure. This gesture of lifting her slave contract would undoubtedly earn her gratitude. And if things went as planned, he might even win her complete loyalty.
“Yes, master! I’ll work hard!” Anna responded, tears shimmering in her eyes.
Her experiences with the Karenina family, her escape, and the countless hardships along the way had made her deeply distrustful and cautious of everyone. Though she had found peace and safety in Eagle Ridge, she had always been nervous, wanting to flee but also hesitant to leave the calm environment it offered.
Despite having to constantly use magic to conceal her half-elf traits, she chose to stay.
The sudden exposure of her true identity today had terrified her. But what happened next was completely unexpected. Not only had Thor not harmed her, but he had also lifted her slave contract. The gesture moved her deeply.
“Master, I…” Anna began, tears welling up, but Thor interrupted her.
“That’s enough. Go get ready. There’s a surprise waiting for you, but you’ll have to see if you can seize it,” he said, waving her off.
“Alright!” Anna, still confused but smiling, nodded and left the room. As she walked away, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief. The anxiety she had been carrying for so long seemed to melt away, replaced by an unexplainable sense of peace. Thor’s image lingered in her mind, becoming clearer and more comforting.
A short while later, outside the castle, Thor had gathered a group of knights. This time, he hadn’t called for Raine, but rather ten full-fledged knights.
With this level of strength, it was more than enough for the journey ahead.
“Master!” Anna appeared, her face slightly flushed, her voice soft.
“Do you know how to ride a horse?” Thor asked as he looked at her.
This time, he had also brought along the peak second-level unicorn. Compared to before, its aura had grown even more powerful, signaling that it was close to a breakthrough. The other ten knights were also mounted on first-level peak unicorns.
Anna shook her head.
Despite being a member of the Karenina family, she had never learned to ride a horse. Back then, no one in the family even knew of her existence, let alone cared enough to teach her anything.
Seeing her shake her head, Thor grabbed her by the waist and easily lifted her onto his unicorn.
“Ah!” Anna gasped as she suddenly found herself sitting atop the unicorn, Thor’s presence right behind her, his warm breath sending her heart racing.
“Master!” Anna stammered instinctively.
“Hold on tight!” Thor said, his voice calm as he pulled the reins.
With that, the group set off.
As the unicorn galloped, Anna felt the rough movement beneath her and the warmth of Thor close behind. Her heart stirred with a mixture of emotions, but gradually, a small smile crept onto her face. For some reason, leaning against Thor made her feel safe, her constant worry fading away. Her body, once tense with fear, slowly began to relax.
As the morning sun bathed the group in its light, they made their way toward their destination.
The place described in the intelligence report wasn’t close. It was located north of the Maine Valley, about thirty miles south of the Northern Glacier Gorge—roughly two hundred miles from Eagle Ridge.
Even with the swift unicorns, it would still take two days to reach the destination. But since there was still time before the Nature Spirit was set to be born, there was no need to rush.
The night passed, and the second day arrived.
Meanwhile, back at Eagle Ridge, Baron Graton, Baron Valmi, and Baron Pape had arrived.
“Lord Thor isn’t here?” they asked in surprise when Raine informed them of his absence. Worry quickly spread across their faces.
“Knight Raine, do you know where Lord Thor went? The Maine Valley is truly on the verge of disaster,” Baron Graton said anxiously.
“Yes, Knight Raine, please find Lord Thor quickly,” Baron Valmi added.
“Knight Raine!” Baron Pape chimed in, their collective anxiety growing more evident.
Although they had managed to unite with some of the other frontier lords, they knew they couldn’t hold off the threat alone.
As their concern deepened, a figure approached.
“Gentlemen, there’s no need to worry,” said Pelos, the new arrival. His words instantly caught the attention of the three barons.
Upon sensing Pelos’ presence, the barons were taken aback. They could clearly feel that, like them, Pelos was a grand knight. They also remembered the other grand knight they had encountered at Eagle Ridge named Steve.
This meant that Eagle Ridge had not just one grand knight but possibly even more.
The three barons exchanged glances, a flicker of hope lighting up their expressions. Normally, such a revelation would have been cause for concern. But in this moment of crisis, the strength of Eagle Ridge was a comfort.
“Who is this?” Baron Pape asked hesitantly, eyeing the scroll in Pelos’ hand.
“Take a look, and you’ll understand,” Pelos said, holding the scroll out to them.
Baron Pape accepted the scroll, his eyes scanning the contents.
As he read, a sense of relief washed over him, a smile appearing on his face. He passed the scroll to the others, who also relaxed as they read it.
For the first time in a while, the weight of impending doom seemed to lift slightly.
