Chapter 92: The Maine Alliance
Of course, the division of territories was only a preliminary distribution. To truly claim them as their own, they still needed the approval of the Northern Province, and they had to pioneer the land. The former wasn’t much of an issue—once they reported the details of their battle against the orcs, the ownership of the lands would naturally be granted to them.
But the latter was no simple task.
Pioneering was always the hardest part.
It required a large workforce, a significant amount of gold coins, and supplies.
However, none of them were too concerned about this.
After defeating the minotaur tribe, they had ample time to slowly develop their territories.
Moreover, most of the newly acquired lands had already been cultivated for several years, if not decades, so reclaiming them would be much easier.
All five pioneering lords, even those two who were not barons, had accumulated enough resources after many years in the Northern Province.
As for Thor, if he could be granted the title of baron this time, he would undoubtedly receive more support from his family, and then pioneering wouldn’t be an issue for him either.
It was a win-win situation for everyone.
A banquet was held at Eagle Ridge.
Everyone was immersed in celebration.
In front of the massive bonfire, Baron Gratton raised his goblet.
“Everyone, let’s toast to our victory!”
Laughter echoed.
“To victory!”
“Cheers!”
One voice after another called out.
Each person raised their glass.
Then, they drank in one gulp.
Afterward, Thor set his goblet down and looked at the three barons and the two remaining pioneering lords.
“Lord Thor, if you have something to say, why not speak directly?”
Papé Laurence’s curiosity was piqued as he looked at Thor.
As he spoke, the others also stopped what they were doing, their gazes turning toward Thor.
“Everyone, the Northern Province is vast, with rich resources. Fighting amongst ourselves would be the most foolish choice. We can band together, as we did this time.”
“I propose that we form an alliance.”
“To face the upcoming pioneering wars and the kingdom’s future wars!”
Thor’s words resounded.
With his voice, everyone around the bonfire stopped their movements.
Some frowned, some were deep in thought, and others’ eyes brightened.
“Everyone, you should know that there’s less than three years until the next kingdom war. If we play our cards right, it might elevate us to the rank of viscount, or even higher.”
“This is our opportunity, and our families’ opportunity.”
“As I said, the Northern Province holds vast lands and abundant resources. If we unite, we can gain more, and we’ll have greater leverage before the kingdom.”
Thor observed their expressions as he continued speaking.
“Lord Thor, you’re right. If we join forces, we can indeed gain more.”
“I support it!”
Baron Gratton thought for a moment before nodding in agreement.
“I agree as well. The Northern Province is vast; that’s where our future lies.”
Joz Anubi also nodded in agreement.
“Hahaha, since both of you agree, naturally I, Papé Laurence, also agree.”
Papé Laurence added.
“I agree!”
Baron Valmy chimed in as well.
Finally, all eyes turned toward Sachi.
“Lord Thor, forgive me for asking, but if we form an alliance, will we have to follow your orders?”
After a brief hesitation, Sachi couldn’t help but ask, though he felt nervous after speaking.
“Of course not!”
“The alliance is only meant to address crises and present a united front. There’s no need to follow my orders.”
Thor smiled and shook his head.
“Then I agree too!”
Sachi quickly nodded.
With the agreement of all five pioneering lords, the alliance was thus established.
They then began discussing the details of the alliance.
As it was a relatively loose alliance, there weren’t many issues to consider.
Thor didn’t push too hard either.
As the saying goes, “You eat a meal one bite at a time, and you walk a road one step at a time.”
He wasn’t even a baron yet; he didn’t expect that just by standing up, everyone would follow his command.
In fact, if it weren’t for the contracts, his smooth handling of the minotaurs, and the strength he had shown with Eagle Ridge, this alliance wouldn’t have even formed.
Even as a loose alliance without binding power, it still wouldn’t have happened.
To become a pioneering lord and survive, one must possess talent, strength, and ability.
Some things don’t need to be said aloud; just a hint, and everyone understands.
The reason they were willing to agree now was because they didn’t mind seeing what the future held.
And for Thor, this was exactly what he wanted.
After all, once he demonstrated even greater power and brought even more benefits, these people would naturally submit to him.
The night gradually passed.
Over the next few days, Thor and the other five pioneering lords discussed the terms of the alliance.
By the fifth day, the terms were finalized.
The alliance stipulated that when any member faced danger, the others were required to send forces to assist. Trade between members would also be smooth.
Additionally, there would be a certain level of information sharing within the alliance.
As expected, this wasn’t a binding agreement.
But it was a start.
It marked the first step toward unifying the six pioneering lords of the Maine River Valley.
This was something that had never happened before, not in the Maine River Valley or the entire Northern Province.
In the Northern Province, pioneering lords were not allies but competitors.
In pioneering wars, conflict over interests was inevitable.
Whenever conflict broke out, it was accompanied by hatred.
Amidst the intertwining of hatred and interests, trust between the pioneering lords was nearly impossible, let alone a full alliance within a single region.
But at this moment, the Maine River Valley had achieved just that.
It was clear that after this moment, the entire Northern Province would change.
But at this moment, no one knew.
Most of the Northern Province was still in relative chaos.
The fact that the minotaur tribe had crossed the defense lines of the kingdom’s knight corps was no accident, nor was it an isolated incident. In fact, during this time, many orc tribes in the northern parts of the Northern Province had crossed the defense lines.
While Thor and the pioneering lords of the Maine River Valley had dealt with the minotaurs, other areas had not been so lucky, and the results were predictable.
