FLDI Chapter 99

This entry is part 100 of 211 in the series Fantasy Lord: Start with Daily Intelligence

Chapter 99: The Goblin Extermination

Thor did not take part in the extermination of the goblins. As previously mentioned, compared to other orc tribes, the goblins were far weaker, making them relatively easy to deal with. The only challenge was the cumbersome process involved.

The goblins served as excellent training fodder for his subordinates.

Whether it was Perros or Raine, both needed to be able to handle matters on their own in the future.

If they weren’t properly trained, they might not be able to keep up in the long run.

Thor didn’t want his initial subordinates to fall behind as he advanced.

The morning sun gradually illuminated the land.

Five days passed in the blink of an eye.

During these five days, the five lords had not responded to anything.

Meanwhile, Thor’s goblin extermination was in full swing.

Eastern Eagle Territory.

In a forested area.

Countless green goblins were fleeing in all directions. Flames engulfed the surroundings as burning oil spread, throwing the goblins into a panic.

“Kill!”

Perros unsheathed his knight’s sword and led two hundred men charging into the fray.

Flames, slaughter.

Hooves, humans.

In that moment, countless green goblins were frantic.

They tried to flee.

However, it was in vain. The human knight regiment’s slaughter spread like wildfire.

Only the goblins who prostrated on the ground were spared from the massacre.

And so, more and more green goblins began to lie flat on the ground.

An hour later.

The battle ended.

Of the two thousand green goblins, more than half were killed, over seven hundred were captured, and the remaining goblins managed to escape.

Perros did not pursue them; their numbers were too few to comb the mountains and capture every last one.

So, he let them be.

They then swiftly extinguished the flames.

Within the fledgling Eagle Knights, hundreds of members moved forward to bind the captured green goblins.

Their actions were skilled; it was evident that they had done this countless times over the past few days.

“Map!”

Perros paid no heed to the captured green goblins and turned to a squire knight beside him.

“Yes!”

The squire knight quickly responded, bringing a map to Perros.

Perros took the map and immediately focused his gaze on it.

This map was given to them by Thor before their mission began, containing not only detailed topography but also various mines and key objectives marked.

The map was undoubtedly the key to Perros’s smooth progress.

After a moment, he looked back at the squire knight.

“Where is Knight Raine now?”

Perros asked, frowning slightly.

The two had parted ways after setting off. The knight regiment was divided into two groups, led by Perros and Raine, to sweep the surrounding area from the east and west banks of the Maine Valley.

He was on the east bank, while Raine was on the west.

Perhaps because the east bank had been cleared once before, the results were not as fruitful as he had expected, leaving him a bit disappointed.

“Lord Perros, Lord Raine has reportedly reached the midsection of the Maine Valley.”

The squire knight respectfully replied.

“The midsection?”

“How much have they gained?”

Perros’s eyebrows furrowed further as he asked curiously.

“Three days ago, they exterminated a goblin tribe of three thousand and captured over a thousand goblins. Combined with previous captures, they should have around three thousand in total.”

The squire knight answered cautiously.

Hearing the squire knight’s words, Perros’s eyebrows twitched.

Over the past few days, he had only captured around a thousand goblins, and even with this most recent operation, the total did not reach two thousand. Clearly, his numbers were significantly lower.

“Move out at full speed!”

“We can’t fall behind too much!”

Perros commanded, urging the knight regiment to set off again.

They were currently near a small iron mine marked on the map.

As for the captured goblins, the fledgling Eagle Knights would send them to Eagle Territory.

Days passed.

The extermination spread further.

One goblin tribe after another was forced to migrate.

Facing such a large-scale extermination, the goblins had no way to respond. Other than running, all they could do was run.

But as they fled, their living space grew smaller and smaller.

The further south they went in the Northern Province, the more lords there were, leaving even less room for them.

The Maine Valley had once been a decent habitat.

Although there were more than twenty pioneering lords in the valley, the Maine Valley was vast, and beyond the lords’ territories lay a huge wilderness—ample space for goblins to live.

However, with Thor’s extermination underway, this peace was shattered.

In an underground cave.

Several red goblins gathered.

At this moment, they were filled with panic.

Even in the wilderness, they could not escape the human extermination effort.

“Damn those humans! Why have they come again?”

“This, this…”

“What do we do? What do we do?”

“The humans are coming!”

Within the cave, the goblins’ voices filled the air in chaotic panic.

Even the red goblin leader at the center was no better off.

“Great Goblin God, are you no longer protecting your people?”

The red goblin leader spoke in a trembling voice.

“Chief, let’s run!”

“Those damned humans will slaughter us all!”

One of the red goblins couldn’t help but shout.

When he mentioned “slaughter us all,” the other red goblins couldn’t help but shudder.

Since humans had entered the Northern Province, everything they had faced was nothing short of a nightmare.

“But… our ores are still here!”

The goblin chief hesitated, looking at the veins of ore on the rock walls, his heart in turmoil.

“Chief, it’s not good! It’s not good!”

“The humans are coming!”

Amid his struggle, a red goblin rushed in, voice filled with panic.

With that, the entire cave erupted into greater chaos.

Several goblins immediately bolted for the exit.

Then the entire cave emptied as all the goblins fled.

In an instant, the cave was deserted.

Ores.

No one cared about the ores anymore.

An hour later.

Raine arrived with his men.

When he saw the veins of ore in the cave, Raine’s eyes sparkled.

“Copper ore!”

“There’s really a copper mine here!”

Raine muttered to himself, visibly excited.

A copper mine was extremely valuable to Eagle Territory, no matter how small it might be.

Not only could copper ore be used to craft brass armor, but it also served as currency.

Unlike iron coins, copper coins were the lowest form of currency used by the nobility, far more valuable than iron coins.

After sealing off the area, Raine and his men set off again.

Time passed once more.

Three days quickly went by.

With the help of the map, both Perros and Raine advanced rapidly. In a short period, they had completed about half of their respective extermination zones.

Within two months, they would be able to clear the entire Eagle Territory.

And with such a large-scale extermination.

The gains were enormous.

Goblins were continuously transported to Eagle Castle.

Initially, there were only a few hundred, then a thousand or two.

Gradually, the goblin count exceeded five thousand, then eight thousand.

A huge number of goblins gathered.

Thor soon replaced some of the mine slaves with goblins, liberating the slaves to work on the construction of Eagle Territory.

The remaining goblins were assigned to newly discovered mines.

The last group was sent to work on a small town in the upper Maine Valley.

With so many goblins joining in, the quantity of mined resources and the speed of construction both soared.

After all, one had to consider the mortality of slaves.

Goblins, however, required no such concern.

With the goblins’ reproduction rate.

Even if he cleared them out this time, within just two years, the goblins in the surrounding area would be nearly fully restored.

There was absolutely no need to worry about depletion.

At the training grounds of Eagle Castle.

A dense life force blossomed, and a massive, pale green magic circle appeared in mid-air.

Below, there were goblins in absolute terror.

Their pupils were wide with fear, wanting to escape.

But an invisible binding force entwined around them, making it impossible to flee.

“Buzz!”

From the large magic circle above, a radiant light descended, and the next moment, a six-pointed star symbol appeared on the foreheads of each goblin. Meanwhile, a large parchment quietly floated down from the magic circle above.

Anna, her face slightly pale, swiftly caught the parchment.

“Master, the pact is complete!” Anna said softly.

“Thank you for your hard work,” Thor responded in a gentle tone, feeling a twinge of heartache. During this period, Anna had been forming pacts continuously, greatly depleting her magical energy.

But aside from Anna, there was no other way; a third-tier mage was not that easy to find. With a light sigh, he took the parchment.

“It’s nothing. If I can help Master, then Anna is happy,” Anna replied with a gentle smile.

“Go get some rest. There will likely be more to come,” Thor said softly.

Anna nodded lightly, not pretending to be strong.

The process of forming these pacts took a considerable toll on her.

Now that her magic was nearly exhausted, she needed to use this time to meditate.

For her, such depletion, followed by meditation, was a form of cultivation. Although these days were exhausting, Anna could clearly feel her mental strength increasing rapidly.

At this rate, she would soon reach the peak of the second tier.

While Anna went to meditate, Thor began to consider the next steps.

It was foreseeable that the number of goblins would continue to increase.

Given the scale of the Eagle Territory, it would be hard to put so many goblins to use.

Even though he had gained several new mines this time, it was still impossible to utilize all of them fully.

As a result, he needed to think about how to handle this surplus.

Thinking of this, Thor’s eyes fell on the map.

He looked at the territories of the pioneering lords.

The six lords who remained in the Maine Valley this time had indeed had a bountiful harvest; some had even gained valuable mines.

These would all require enough manpower.

Especially for the newly expanded lords, who would need more people to cultivate and develop their lands—making these goblins the perfect addition.

Thor believed that the lords would be more than willing to buy them.

The sale of goblins wouldn’t be considered slave trading. As long as it wasn’t too conspicuous, there likely wouldn’t be too much attention from Loren City.

The only question was how to set the price.

In Loren City, slaves cost ten silver coins each, and even the cheapest, scrawny ones went for at least one silver coin. Naturally, his price couldn’t be that high.

It needed to be more affordable.

Thoughts swirled through Thor’s mind as he pondered.

Finally, he made a decision.

Seated at his desk, he quickly finished writing with a quill.

“Someone, come here!”

As soon as he spoke, a knight soon entered through the door.

“My lord!” the knight said respectfully.

“Copy this letter four times and send it to the five lords,” Thor commanded quickly.

“Yes!” The knight responded promptly and swiftly left.

He immediately began to act on the orders.

While Thor was sending out the letters to the lords…

Elsewhere.

Ten days were quickly coming to an end.

The five pioneering lords gathered together.

In the castle of Loren City.

All five of them were frowning.

Even after seven or eight days had passed, they were still unsure about what to do.

The extermination mission, facing the direct threat of the orcs, was no joke—one misstep could lead to disastrous losses.

Unless absolutely necessary, they were reluctant to go through with it.

However, Thor’s words had indeed affected them.

The kingdom’s war was fast approaching, and with their current strength, it would be difficult not just to rise during the war but even to avoid heavy losses.

This made their decision even more complicated.

And so, they found themselves gathered, trying to decide whether to go through with it.

“Everyone, speak your mind,” said Baron Pape, looking at the others. “There are only ten days left; we must make a decision!”

But even after his words, none of them spoke. Some tried to say something, but the words caught in their throats.
