GROIKTP Chapter 482

This entry is part 403 of 534 in the series Global Reincarnation: Only i Know the Plot

“Master, this is Master Chen.”

Yan Zhong introduced cheerfully, “Master Chen, let me introduce you to my mentor, and this is…”

Just as he was about to introduce Xiao Ling’er, she interrupted.

“Uncle Yan, there’s no need for introductions. Isn’t that right, Chen? My classmate!!”

Yan Zhong was momentarily stunned.

He had been wondering why his mentor brought his granddaughter to such an important occasion. Now he understood—turns out they already knew each other!

“Chen Ye, I didn’t expect it to really be you.”

Xiao Ling’er’s eyes were locked on Chen Ye, filled with skepticism. “I heard you’re a Xiantian Grandmaster? I don’t believe it. Can you show me something?”

Yan Zhong was instantly dumbfounded.

He never expected his mentor’s granddaughter to directly challenge Master Chen like this. After all, this was a Xiantian Grandmaster— even his mentor, also a Xiantian Grandmaster, wouldn’t dare to be so rude.

Questioning the strength of a Xiantian Grandmaster was practically a provocation!

Yan Zhong broke out in cold sweat, unable to intervene because Xiao Ling’er was his mentor’s granddaughter, and he wasn’t in a position to reprimand her.

Thankfully, his mentor understood the gravity of the situation.

“Nonsense!” The elder immediately scolded, “Ling’er, how can you be so rude? Apologize to Master Chen right now!”

Xiao Ling’er, being obedient, apologized to Chen Ye. “I’m sorry, Chen Ye. I was just so shocked that I spoke without thinking. I hope you won’t take it to heart… But I really can’t believe it— we go to the same school, and yet, without making a sound, you’ve become a Xiantian Grandmaster.”

Seeing that Xiao Ling’er’s apology was sincere, Chen Ye smiled and waved it off. “It’s fine. I kept a low profile at school, so it’s normal for you to have doubts…”

In truth, the original “Chen Ye” hadn’t exactly been low-key at school.

He was raised well by his father, who built his foundation from a young age, making him a martial artist candidate at the school. How could he be considered ordinary?

In fact, the original Chen Ye was quite well-known. And given that he had publicly expressed his intention to pursue Xiao Ling’er, many students were aware of his existence.

At the very least, those boys who idolized Xiao Ling’er as their dream girl definitely knew about Chen Ye as a competitor…

“But as for your doubts,” Chen Ye added, “I’m not inclined to explain.”

His response was deliberately provocative.

Xiao Ling’er’s face immediately reflected her displeasure, her expression one of clear defiance. She seemed ready to retort, but her grandfather cut her off.

“That’s enough, Ling’er. Though Master Chen is your classmate, he is a guest here tonight. You mustn’t be rude to our guest.”

With that, Xiao Ling’er was forced to calm down.

The elder then turned to Chen Ye, inviting him to sit down. “Master Chen, please, have a seat.”

Chen Ye nodded and took his seat. The others followed suit.

“I’ve heard that you’re seeking my recommendation for the Martial Arts Tournament?” the elder cut straight to the point.

Chen Ye nodded in confirmation.

The elder continued, “Since you’ve asked, I’m more than happy to oblige. However, in my old age, my curiosity tends to get the better of me. Given your talent, you could easily become an official martial artist, and if you agreed, you’d have a seat among the top ranks of the Martial Artists Association. Why, then, do you still wish to participate in the tournament?”

“Simple,” Chen Ye smiled, “I want to make a name for myself. I don’t want to become a martial artist only to have my abilities questioned, so I’m choosing to earn my recognition through the tournament, with honor and dignity.”

His response was flawless.

The elder nodded in approval, accepting the answer.

He then added, “Master Chen, your conduct is noble, reminiscent of the knights of old. I’ve heard you aim to claim the championship in the Martial Arts Tournament?”

Chen Ye nodded once more. “That’s right.”

“Winning won’t be easy,” the elder remarked, “Every year, true experts emerge, using the tournament as a platform to gain recognition. There are many hidden masters, and even some well-known figures might join to test themselves. The champion’s title is not easily won.”

“I’m well aware,” Chen Ye responded calmly.

The elder suddenly asked, “Master Chen, would you care for a spar?”

In the martial arts community, “spar” or “testing hands” was a polite term for a challenge or competition. It was a softer, more respectful way of suggesting a match than directly saying “challenge,” which could be seen as confrontational.

“Master Chen, I don’t doubt you,” the elder clarified, “I merely wish to gauge your strength and see how likely you are to win the championship.”

Chen Ye smiled coolly.

The elder’s words made it clear that he still harbored doubts about Chen Ye’s abilities. Given Xiao Ling’er’s prior comments, it seemed they hadn’t fully believed in his strength. Otherwise, the elder wouldn’t have brought his granddaughter to this meeting.

“Well then, please, guide me,” Chen Ye replied, his expression composed.

He had no fear of a sparring match.

In fact, he was curious to see what a Xiantian Grandmaster from this world was truly capable of…
