GROIKTP Chapter 516

This entry is part 438 of 534 in the series Global Reincarnation: Only i Know the Plot

The reincarnators who entered the *One Punch Man* world this time all had three tasks.

One of the tasks was to become a registered hero of the Hero Association, and the higher their ranking, the better the mission evaluation.

As the legendary Shura and the record-holder of super-god feats, Chen Ye’s goal was, of course, to achieve the highest mission rating!

He aimed to become the number one S-Class hero!

After gathering some information, Chen Ye knew that in this era, he wouldn’t be able to achieve that rank in a short period.

So, he needed to go back three years…

To the time when the Hero Association was just founded!

“Brother, it’s ready!”

Skynet’s voice interrupted Chen Ye’s thoughts.

Hearing this, Chen Ye put down his laptop and stood up.

“Is the time set?”

“Yes, it’s set for June 7th, three years ago!”

Chen Ye nodded and added, “Remember to set the self-destruct program.”

Leaving the time-switching device here wouldn’t be a good idea…

“Got it. Give me five more minutes!” Skynet replied.

Seven minutes later.

A sudden burst of intense light erupted from the power station, followed by an explosion, causing a power outage in the surrounding streets…

Three years ago!

The weather in June was getting hotter, and many women were already wearing skirts, strolling down the streets, becoming a beautiful sight for the male passersby.

At this moment, on the streets, a young man with a blank expression was walking aimlessly.

The young man was dressed in a black suit, which appeared somewhat worn out. In his hand, he carried a briefcase, containing his resume.

A standard job seeker.

This young man was none other than Saitama!

The current Saitama was far from the bald demon king he would become three years later.

He still had a head full of lush black hair, and his appearance was normal. He looked like an ordinary guy.

A group of young girls walked past Saitama.

But Saitama didn’t have the mind to appreciate this “scenic view.”

What he needed right now was a job, or else the landlord would kick him out next month!

Suddenly, a scream echoed down the street.

“Ah! Help!”

“It’s a monster, run!”

Saitama turned around and saw a monster behind him that had appeared out of nowhere.

The monster had a human lower body but an enormous crab-like upper body!

While others ran away in fear, Saitama didn’t make a move to avoid it…

Because, at this point in his life, Saitama had lost hope and didn’t really care whether he lived or died.

The crab monster saw that Saitama was just a pitiful guy abandoned by society and decided to let him go without attacking.

As he left, the crab monster told Saitama that he was hunting down a kid with a double chin!

Saitama didn’t think much of the encounter with the monster.

After the crab monster left, Saitama continued to wander aimlessly, lost in thought.

About ten minutes later.

Saitama passed by an open area where he saw a kid playing soccer by himself.

The child had no playmates and seemed quite lonely.

Saitama saw a bit of himself in the boy and couldn’t help but stop and watch.

Upon closer inspection, he was startled.

The kid’s facial features were all normal, except for his very unique and unforgettable double chin.

Saitama suddenly remembered that the crab monster from earlier said he was hunting a kid with a double chin…

Could it be this little brat in front of him?

Thinking of this, Saitama couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, kid, did you do something to that crab monster?”

The kid was quite honest and thought for a moment before saying, “He was sleeping in the park, so I used a marker to draw an ‘X’ on him…”

Hearing this, Saitama broke out in a cold sweat.

He confirmed that the crab monster was indeed hunting this troublemaking kid!!

Initially, Saitama didn’t want to get involved.

But seeing how lonely the kid was playing with his ball, Saitama felt sorry for him, and his sense of justice compelled him to give a warning:

“Hey, kid, that monster is out to get you! You should hurry home!”

The kid didn’t pay any attention to Saitama’s words and kept playing with his soccer ball.

Seeing this, Saitama shook his head, deciding to leave it alone.

Just as Saitama was about to walk away.

Suddenly!

A voice echoed from the other side: “Finally found you! You brat, die!!”

It was the crab monster, who had suddenly appeared and, without saying another word, launched a deadly attack at the kid.

Driven by his sense of justice, Saitama rushed forward without a second thought.

However.

He was still a step too late!

Out of nowhere, a flash of lightning-like speed shot forward, and in the blink of an eye, the kid was whisked away from danger.

The crab monster’s attack missed its mark entirely.

“Huh? Who’s there?”

Saitama was also stunned, frozen in place.

As the dust settled, a tall, imposing figure emerged.

It was Chen Ye!!

Actually.

Chen Ye had been nearby the whole time.

After finding the kid, he had secretly followed him, waiting for the events from the original story to unfold before stepping in to save the kid.

“Hey, kid, that monster is after you. It wants to kill you, so you’d better run!” Chen Ye said, patting the terrified child.

Seeing the fierce-looking crab monster, the kid was nearly in tears and hid behind Chen Ye.

Furious that his plan had been thwarted, the crab monster was enraged.

“And who are you? Why are you getting in the way of my business? Do you want to die under my claws too?”

Chen Ye could have easily taken down the crab monster with one hit.

But to make himself appear more “noble and righteous,” he deliberately held back.

“It was just a child’s prank. Is it really worth killing over?” Chen Ye asked.

The crab monster growled, “Anyone who dares mock my appearance won’t be spared! Especially that damn brat who dared to draw that thing on me! And with a marker, too! My claws can’t even wipe it off!!”

Hearing this, Chen Ye almost laughed…

After his rant, the crab monster raised one of his claws, pointing it at Chen Ye: “If you stand in my way, I’ll tear you to pieces!”

Chen Ye quickly turned to the kid and said, “Kid, I’ll hold him off. You run!”

He spoke with a righteous tone, embodying the spirit of a self-sacrificing hero.

Even though the kid didn’t fully understand the situation, he could sense that this big brother in front of him was risking his life to save him.

Terrified by the crab monster’s ferocity, the kid ran off without saying a word.

Seeing his prey about to escape, the crab monster wasn’t about to let him go and immediately tried to chase after the kid, only to be blocked by Chen Ye.

Naturally, it was Chen Ye!

Enraged, the crab monster shouted “Die!” and swung a claw at Chen Ye.

Chen Ye raised his arm to block, and the force of the hit sent him flying…

Of course, this was all part of Chen Ye’s act for the kid!

Otherwise, if a mere crab monster could land a hit on him, it’d be a disgrace!

With a mix of fear and gratitude in his heart, the kid finally managed to escape!

Seeing his prey slip away, the crab monster was furious, glaring at Chen Ye.

“Damn you, I’ll tear you to pieces!!”

With that, the crab monster opened his massive claw and lunged at Chen Ye.

It seemed as though he truly intended to tear Chen Ye apart!

However…

Facing such an attack, Chen Ye remained calm, his expression indifferent, as he slowly extended a single finger.

Suddenly, the crab monster began to panic!

It felt as if the human in front of it had changed—becoming terrifying…

In fact, the crab monster even imagined seeing the word “death” coming straight at him.

This was because the kid had already escaped, so Chen Ye no longer needed to hold back.

“Pop!”

With a crisp sound.

The crab monster’s entire body, struck by Chen Ye’s finger, suddenly shattered into pieces, scattering debris all over the ground!

After dealing with the small fry, Chen Ye turned his gaze toward Saitama.

Saitama seemed to be in shock.

He stared at the scattered crab meat and shells on the ground, finding it hard to believe that someone had done this with just a single finger…

A true powerhouse!

A real powerhouse!

Looking at Chen Ye, Saitama suddenly recalled his childhood dream: becoming a hero!

At that moment, Saitama felt enlightened, as if he had finally found a goal to strive for.

He, too, wanted to become stronger!

To become a hero who could save others, just like the person in front of him!

With newfound resolve, Saitama suddenly shouted, “Sir! Please take me as your disciple!!”

Chen Ye was dumbfounded and speechless at the sight of Saitama bowing deeply in respect.

What kind of plot twist was this??

Why was Saitama suddenly asking to be his student?

He hadn’t even said a single word…

Chen Ye quickly recovered.

After only a moment of confusion, he composed himself.

He thought, maybe taking Saitama as a disciple wouldn’t be such a bad idea…

With that in mind, Chen Ye cleared his throat and, in a deliberately profound tone, asked, “Why do you want to become my disciple?”

Hearing this question, Saitama became a bit nervous, worried that he might give the wrong answer.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to tell the truth.

“I… I want to become a powerful hero like you and save people!”

“Is that really why?”

“Yes, absolutely!”

Chen Ye feigned contemplation for a moment, then sighed and said, “Young people like you are rare. I’m willing to take you as my disciple, but I hope you’ll always stay true to your heart!”

Saitama was overjoyed!

“Thank you, Master!”

“Get up!” Chen Ye said.

Once Saitama had gotten up from the ground, Chen Ye asked, “By the way, what’s your name?”

Though he already knew the answer.

“Master, I’m Saitama!”

It was now noon.

The scorching sun made the whole land feel stiflingly hot.

After tailing the kid for so long, Chen Ye still hadn’t eaten, so he said, “Saitama, why don’t you join your master for a meal first?”

Saitama wasn’t entirely without social awareness.

Hearing this, he instinctively felt that he should be the one treating his master to a meal…

But the truth was, he was flat broke!

“Master, I left in such a rush this morning that I didn’t bring any money… How about coming to my place, and I’ll cook for you myself?”

Chen Ye chuckled.

Knowing the storyline, he was well aware of just how financially strained Saitama was at the moment.

Patting Saitama on the shoulder, Chen Ye smiled and said, “No need for that. I’ll treat you!”
