- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 187
“Is Grindelwald here?”
Leo put away his wand and asked a witch standing nearby.
The witch quickly stepped forward, “Chuan, Mr. Grindelwald has gone out. He is expected to return later.”
Leo nodded, found a sofa, and sat down, striking up a conversation with several dark wizards.
The villa he was in now was one of Grindelwald’s main hideouts, concealed among Muggles to evade the International Confederation of Wizards’ warrants.
As for the original owners of the villa, Leo had already learned during his earlier chats with a few dark wizards that Grindelwald had ordered them all to be ruthlessly killed. From the elderly to infants, everyone had been killed with the Killing Curse, leaving no one alive.
In Grindelwald’s eyes, Muggles were filthy, inferior beings, even less than house-elves. In the future, only a small number of them should be kept as slaves.
Two hours later, Grindelwald, with his white hair, appeared in the villa with more than a dozen dark wizards. Upon seeing Leo, he showed no surprise, simply gesturing for everyone to gather around.
“The preliminary preparations are nearly complete. Now, every wizard in the world knows I’m here.
We’ll wait another month. Once all the wizards who believe in me have gathered in Paris, we will hold a rally and start the war against those decaying wizards and Muggles by destroying this Muggle city!”
Grindelwald glanced at the assembled dark wizards, his tone a mix of excitement and a chilling edge.
The dark wizards below immediately cheered upon hearing this—they had long awaited this moment.
Grindelwald raised his hand to quiet the cheers, then continued, “Before that, I need someone to take my place and kill Albus Dumbledore, the person most likely to thwart my plans. Is there anyone here willing to volunteer?”
He wasn’t serious about sending someone to kill Dumbledore. He knew that besides himself, no one could kill Dumbledore.
Moreover, he himself couldn’t attack Dumbledore due to the blood pact. Or, more precisely, despite their parting ways, they still couldn’t let go of their past feelings for each other. The blood pact indeed prevented them from attacking each other, but it also represented that their deep-seated emotions hadn’t completely broken; they were still unwilling to engage in a life-and-death struggle.
Therefore, he needed someone skilled to harass Dumbledore, preventing him from pulling any tricks during the crucial moment of the rally.
Originally, he had chosen someone based on a prophecy—a young Obscurus in New York, possibly related to the Dumbledore family by blood—but that person had mysteriously disappeared.
An Obscurus with Dumbledore blood, a young girl no less, so similar to Dumbledore’s sister Ariana. Even if she couldn’t defeat Dumbledore, she could certainly touch his heart, causing him to be thrown into turmoil and unable to focus on the rally here.
Upon hearing that the mission was to kill Dumbledore, the dark wizards’ faces instantly stiffened.
Even though many of these dark wizards were Grindelwald’s most loyal followers, willing to sacrifice their lives for him and the noble cause, they knew full well that compared to the renowned Dumbledore, they were no match. The idea of assassinating him was no more than walking into their own deaths.
Grindelwald scanned the room, his gaze finally settling on Chuan.
He knew very well that while his followers were considered top-tier wizards outside, known throughout the wizarding world, sending them against Dumbledore was still too much. They couldn’t even manage to harass him and would likely be killed in an instant.
The only one who might make a difference was this mysterious wizard, Chuan, who had unique, self-created magic.
However, Chuan was not like his devoted followers; he was more of a collaborator and trader. While their ideologies had similarities, they weren’t exactly the same, so Grindelwald couldn’t simply order him to fight the powerful Dumbledore.
Leo quickly considered the situation and then, without hesitation, stepped forward.
“I’ll take it. I’ve long wanted to spar with Professor Dumbledore, who is so renowned in the wizarding world.”
At first, Leo was taken aback by Grindelwald’s desire to kill Dumbledore. However, he quickly realized the subtleties involved.
His initial thought was to refuse, as he wasn’t confident in defeating Dumbledore at his current level. Besides, he still wanted to learn magic from Dumbledore with his legitimate identity.
But then he reconsidered—it seemed doable.
After all, Grindelwald wasn’t really aiming to kill Dumbledore. Leo just needed to go through the motions.
Even if he couldn’t win, putting up a good fight would boost his reputation among Grindelwald, the Dark Wizards, and the entire wizarding community.
While he was already quite well-known, his fame was nowhere near that of Grindelwald or Dumbledore.
The key point was that if Grindelwald wanted him to take on Dumbledore, he could demand that Grindelwald teach him his most powerful spells, like the modified Fiendfyre Curse and the non-verbal, wandless Summoning Charm that could be cast with a mere gesture.
Additionally, giving Dumbledore a bit of pressure was a good thing. If Dumbledore realized that Grindelwald had a powerful wizard like Leo under his command, he would certainly want to train someone capable of countering him.
This meant that his public identity, Tom Fawley, would also benefit.
When Grindelwald later discovered that the person responsible for his imprisonment, Fawley, had become even stronger under Dumbledore’s guidance, he would also be more motivated to train Chuan.
By using his dual identities to simultaneously pressure both the Dark Lord and the White Wizard, he could quickly drain both of their resources.
So it was an opportunity to achieve multiple goals—why wouldn’t he agree?
Seeing Leo step forward to take on this challenging mission, Grindelwald nodded in satisfaction. This was exactly the outcome he had hoped for.
The other dark wizards, seeing Chuan volunteer, were visibly shocked and impressed. He actually dared to confront a wizard as powerful as Dumbledore, equal in strength to Grindelwald.
After the meeting, the other dark wizards began their preparations for the upcoming rally, while Leo stayed behind to sit across from Grindelwald.
“Grindelwald, you know I’m not a match for Dumbledore right now. If I go, I might not come back.”
“Don’t worry, even if you lose, with Albus’s character, he won’t harm you. At most, he’ll send you to prison. When the rally succeeds, I’ll break you out. And if you find you really can’t win, I’ll allow you to escape.”
Grindelwald spoke frankly. He never actually believed Chuan would win, although he did think Chuan was quite a formidable wizard.
Leo shook his head. “That’s not enough. I want you to teach me your improved Fiendfyre Curse and the wandless, non-verbal Summoning Charm that can be cast with just a gesture.”
