- MWM Chapter 192
“You are under arrest, Mysterious One!”
Before Leo could respond, the highly agitated Aurors had already risen to their feet, wands raised and pointed directly at him. The deputy leader, quick and decisive, cast a rope-binding spell at Leo.
“Incarcerous!”
A thick rope, as thick as a thumb, shot out like a snake and tightly bound Leo.
This was the infamous Mysterious One, the wizard who had rescued Grindelwald from MACUSA and had since demonstrated formidable magical prowess multiple times. He was known as Grindelwald’s most powerful follower.
Although they still didn’t know the Mysterious One’s real name, his appearance had long been made known throughout the wizarding world via various newspapers.
Leo glanced at the ropes binding him, seemingly indifferent, and continued speaking to Dumbledore:
“Yes, but I am not one for ambushes or assassinations. I want to challenge you to an open and fair wizard duel, right over there at the Quidditch pitch.”
“A duel? You should be thinking about how you’ll spend your future in Azkaban!”
The deputy leader of the Aurors stepped forward coldly. Seeing that Leo was already bound by his ropes and still brazenly asking to duel Dumbledore, he couldn’t help but taunt him.
Leo, however, paid him no mind and simply smiled:
“You better hurry, or I might just attack Hogwarts Castle. It wouldn’t be good if any young wizards got hurt.”
With that, he dispelled his shadow clone and vanished on the spot.
The deputy leader of the Aurors, who was about to step forward and apprehend Leo for interrogation at the Ministry of Magic, was left stunned as Leo suddenly disappeared without a trace.
He hadn’t seen Leo draw a wand, nor heard any incantation. Even if it was wandless and wordless Apparition, he shouldn’t have been able to escape the binding ropes so easily.
Upon hearing that Leo was threatening to attack Hogwarts Castle and harm his beloved students, Dumbledore immediately drew his wand and Apparated out of the tavern.
“What do we do now, Deputy?”
The Aurors, seeing that both the Mysterious One and Dumbledore had disappeared, were momentarily at a loss.
Grinding his teeth to hold back his anger, the deputy leader ordered:
“What do we do? Head to the Quidditch pitch and capture the Mysterious One, of course!”
With that, he too Apparated away, and the other Aurors followed suit, wands waving as they Disapparated.
At the Quidditch pitch, Leo smiled at Dumbledore, who had just appeared:
“Excellent. Today, let me see just how powerful a wizard who stands on par with Grindelwald really is!”
“I’ve heard that even though you assist Grindelwald, you’ve never actually killed a wizard or a Muggle. Have you considered that perhaps you aren’t meant to follow him?”
Dumbledore looked at Leo with a serious expression.
Even he dared not take this mysterious wizard, who possessed such unusual magic, lightly—especially with Hogwarts Castle nearby.
Leo shook his head:
“I don’t actually dislike Muggles; I just don’t like being constrained by the Statute of Secrecy. So while Grindelwald’s methods may be harsh, the end result is favorable. It’s certainly better than the current, decaying Ministry of Magic!”
“Seize him together!”
At that moment, the deputy leader of the Aurors, along with his subordinates, appeared at the Quidditch pitch. Upon spotting Leo, they immediately raised their wands and unleashed a barrage of powerful spells.
Seeing this, Leo merely lifted his arm, and ten rings shot out from his forearm, effortlessly deflecting all the spells.
“You lot should stay on the sidelines and watch!”
With a mere thought, the ten rings that had been floating defensively in front of him turned to offense, shooting toward the Aurors like meteors. Before the Aurors could cast their next spell, they were knocked back, sent flying through the air.
“In that case, I’ll have to deal with you first.”
But just as Leo was sending a dozen Aurors flying, a voice suddenly sounded from behind him. Dumbledore had Apparated right behind him, pressing his wand against the back of Leo’s head.
“So fast!”
Leo’s pupils contracted. He hadn’t had time to recall his rings for defense before Dumbledore’s spell struck the back of his head.
Normal Apparition couldn’t achieve true instantaneous movement. It usually involved a brief pause and a sound like a firecracker, and moving through space made the body feel quite uncomfortable.
Even top-tier wizards like Newt left notable openings when performing Apparition.
But Dumbledore’s Apparition had been completely silent, without any gestures or incantations, as if he were a ghost. Leo hadn’t had time to react at all.
It was clear that certain types of magic, in the hands of a wizard of Dumbledore’s caliber, had undergone a qualitative transformation.
If not for the anti-Apparition wards of MACUSA back then, which prevented Grindelwald from Apparating, it was likely that even with his exceptional skills, Leo wouldn’t have been able to pose much of a threat to Grindelwald.
After all, no matter how agile he was, he couldn’t compete with someone capable of this level of silent, seamless Apparition, where they could appear behind him without warning and strike. In such cases, being instantly defeated was a real possibility.
Meanwhile, the commotion at the Quidditch pitch had evidently caught the attention of the young witches and wizards at Hogwarts Castle.
It was midday, and many students were in their common rooms resting. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw’s dormitories and common rooms were located in the upper levels of the castle, and it was easy to see the Quidditch pitch through the windows.
Students of all years, lower and upper, crowded against the windows, and those proficient in Transfiguration quickly turned objects in their hands into telescopes to get a better view.
“Oh, by Merlin’s beard, Professor Dumbledore is fighting the Mysterious One!”
Soon, the young wizards were exclaiming in surprise.
Even though they were at school, they hadn’t missed out on international affairs or gossip. Many pure-blood students even had the habit of subscribing to the *Daily Prophet*.
Every morning at breakfast, a large number of owls would deliver items to the Great Hall, many of which were newspapers subscribed to by the students.
So they were well aware of the infamous Mysterious One.
Some students even recognized the Aurors lying on the other side, those who had been struck down and were coughing up blood from Leo’s rings. Among them were their fathers, uncles, and brothers.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the prefects of the two houses immediately informed the Head Boy and Head Girl, who then notified the professors and the Headmaster.
Soon, the entire school, including all professors and students, was aware of the battle taking place at the Quidditch pitch.
The newly appointed Headmaster, Armando Dippet, who had taken the position less than a year ago, did not send any of the school’s professors to the Quidditch pitch to assist in the fight. Instead, he instructed them to stay at the school and protect the students, preventing the more daring ones, especially those from Gryffindor, from running over to get involved.
