MWM Chapter 207

This entry is part 208 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“What’s this? Are these guys about to fight each other?”

Just as Leo secured the Tesseract and the Mind Stone staff, he glanced down from the top of Stark Tower and quickly spotted Tony, Thor, and Hulk.

However, instead of celebrating their victory together after the Chitauri soldiers were all defeated, the three seemed to be gathering in the middle of the street, visibly tense and ready for a brawl.

“Take these two back to the interrogation room. Make sure to keep a close watch; these two aren’t ordinary people,” Leo instructed, casting two more Stupefy spells on Gamora and Nebula. Then, he Disapparated from the tower’s rooftop.

Meanwhile, down on the partially ruined street, caused by the Chitauri invasion:

Thor stood protectively in front of Jane Foster and her group, holding his hammer and glaring at Hulk, who was brandishing a car in one hand.

“Hey, big guy, I suggest you put down that car, or I’ll smash your head open with my hammer!” Thor warned.

While escorting Jane Foster’s group and fending off Chitauri soldiers, Thor had crossed paths with the Hulk, who was using two cars to smash the Chitauri soldiers. An unexpected clash had broken out between the two, leading to a fight in which neither could gain the upper hand.

The tension only escalated until Betty, observing from a distance, rushed over to calm Hulk down. But it was clear both sides were still on edge.

“Hulk!”

Upon hearing Thor’s words, Hulk threw the car he was holding straight at Thor, who immediately deflected it with Mjolnir, sending it flying.

“Hulk, calm down, calm down. They’re not enemies,” Betty quickly intervened, standing in front of Hulk to soothe him. Then she turned to Thor and said, “I’m Dr. Betty Ross. We’re not bad people, and I don’t think you are either. So, there’s no need to fight.”

“He started it,” Thor replied with a shrug, retracting his combat stance after seeing Betty, a completely unthreatening woman, standing in front of him.

He had initially flown over to greet them, only to be unexpectedly punched by Hulk, prompting him to retaliate.

“He might have mistaken you for one of those aliens. After all, you don’t look much like a normal human either,” Betty explained somewhat awkwardly.

Dressed in a Renaissance-era outfit, flying around with a hammer and occasionally summoning lightning—no normal person would think he was human, let alone Hulk, whose intelligence wasn’t very high. Seeing someone like that flying toward him would instinctively trigger an attack.

Thor couldn’t help but retort, “I might not be human—I’m a god—but if we’re talking appearances, he looks even less human than any of you!”

“Thor, Dr. Betty Ross is a world-renowned professor of cell biology. They don’t seem to be bad people,” Dr. Erik Selvig chimed in, stepping forward to remind Thor.

Although he hadn’t met Betty before, he had heard of her name through his acquaintance with Dr. Bruce Banner.

Meanwhile, Tony, having noticed the situation while helping a family trapped in a car, flew over and instinctively raised his repulsor beams upon seeing Hulk.

“Thor, what’s going on here?”

Before Thor could explain, Tony’s AI, J.A.R.V.I.S., had already scanned Betty’s identity.

“You’re Betty Ross, a researcher at the Li Corporation.”

“So, she’s one of Leo’s employees?” Thor mused, having spent enough time on Earth to know that the Li Corporation belonged to Leo.

At that moment, Hawkeye arrived, also aiming his bow at Hulk. As an S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, he was aware of Hulk and Banner’s history and knew that Hulk was highly unpredictable and extremely dangerous.

Following Hawkeye was Black Widow, along with Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents arriving in a Quinjet. They, too, aimed their weapons at the increasingly agitated Hulk.

Seeing everyone turning against him, Hulk grew even angrier. Fury’s next words only further ignited his rage.

“Dr. Banner, I hope you can control yourself, or better yet, revert to your normal self.”

“Hulk hates Banner!”

With a roar, Hulk leapt over Betty, aiming a powerful punch directly at Fury.

In Hulk’s mind, Banner—who had always tried to suppress and get rid of him—was the person he hated the most. Hearing that name caused his rage to spike instantly.

Seeing Hulk charging in a rage, everyone instinctively retaliated.

Tony, hovering in the air, fired his repulsor beams; Thor summoned a bolt of lightning with Mjolnir; Hawkeye shot an explosive arrow; Black Widow fired a high-voltage electric shock, and Fury, along with his agents, opened fire with their guns and various other weapons.

Just as a full-blown battle was about to erupt, a figure suddenly appeared between the two sides—Leo had Apparated from the rooftop of Stark Tower.

With a wave of his hands, he sent the Ten Rings flying to block Thor’s lightning bolt. Activating the Eight Gates, he flashed into the air, kicking Hulk back into place. Then, he drew the Elder Wand and cast a Shield Charm to block the repulsor beams, explosive arrows, electric shocks, and bullets.

In the blink of an eye, Leo had neutralized all the attacks on his own.

“Everyone, calm down.”

“Leo!”

Seeing Leo appear, the group, besides being amazed by his strength, quickly lowered their weapons.

Of course, there was one exception—Hulk.

Hulk didn’t recognize Leo and, after being attacked by him, became even more enraged. With another roar, he prepared to launch a fiercer attack, even beyond Betty’s ability to calm him down.

But Leo was ready. As Hulk leaped up again, he flicked the Elder Wand:

“Leviosa!”

A spell hit Hulk, causing him to float in mid-air.

“Leviosa” is also a Levitation Charm, but compared to the more commonly known “Wingardium Leviosa,” the difference lies in one being aimed at living beings and the other at inanimate objects.

Leo had learned this during his studies with Grindelwald on controlling objects because Grindelwald’s spell for making Aurors levitate and then crash to the ground was actually a modified version of “Leviosa.”
