- MWM Chapter 231
“Junior Brother Qingfeng, this is Drunken Immortal Cliff.”
Before a small mountain shrouded in mist, Shangguan Qian separated herself from her sword after casting a spell, and the other six followed, landing beside Leo.
“It’s floating in the air!”
The small mountain known as Drunken Immortal Cliff wasn’t rooted to the ground but hovered about 2,000 meters in the sky. Leo couldn’t help but exclaim in awe.
Based on Li Qingfeng’s memories, Xiaozhushan was a normal mountain with an illusion array to keep mortals from entering. But seeing an entire mountain floating in the air was truly something else.
Leo Levitation Charm could make objects float, but floating a car and floating an entire mountain were leagues apart.
“Most sects with Nascent Soul cultivators use the Vajra Mountain Moving Spell to lift their sect’s mountain gate into the sky and then shroud it in mist for concealment,” Shangguan Qian explained, hands on her hips, proudly sharing her knowledge. “If you think this is impressive, you should see our Emei Sect! It’s much larger than Drunken Immortal Cliff, with several floating mountains, including a Sword Mountain…”
“Emei Sect truly lives up to its name as the greatest righteous sect. If I ever get the chance to visit, it would make this whole trip worthwhile! I could even brag to my fellow disciples about it when I return,” Leo said with a look of curiosity and excitement, seizing the opportunity to lay the groundwork for a future visit to Emei.
“That’s easy! After we’ve finished with the demon, come back to Emei with us. I’ll show you around!” Shangguan Qian offered without hesitation, falling for the bait.
Chu Yuxiang, the eldest of the group, raised his hand as if to intervene but thought better of it, lowering it again. Emei’s spiritual energy was the densest of all the sects, and not just anyone was allowed to enter. However, since Shangguan Qian had already agreed and Leo was a righteous cultivator with great potential, he figured their master likely wouldn’t object.
“Let’s go find the Lotus Fairy,” Chu Yuxiang said, pulling a small, palm-sized flying sword from his waist and infusing it with true energy. The sword flew ahead, guiding them toward the north side of the floating mountain.
“This flying sword was used by the Lotus Fairy to send her message. We’ll follow it to find her. Remember to keep your movements quiet. There’s a nine-headed demon python on this mountain. We don’t want to alert it.”
“Understood, Senior Brother,” the group replied in unison.
Seven sword lights rose again, but this time they dimmed their glow, quietly following the small flying sword into the mountain.
Soon, they arrived at a herb garden halfway up the north side of the mountain. The garden was filled with various medicinal herbs, and there, Leo saw the Nascent Soul cultivator known as the Lotus Fairy.
The Lotus Fairy appeared to be around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, with a delicate, elegant appearance. She wore a long, light pink robe and was carefully tending to the herbs in her garden.
“The Seven Sons of the Cloud greet the Lotus Fairy!” Chu Yuxiang and the others landed and bowed respectfully.
The Lotus Fairy’s eyes lit up with delight upon seeing them. “No need for such formalities. I’ve been waiting for you—oh? And who is this?”
Her gaze shifted to Leo, the eighth person in the group, and she looked puzzled. As a Nascent Soul cultivator, she could tell with a glance that Leo was merely at the Foundation Establishment stage and had not been cultivating for very long.
“I am Li Qingfeng from Xiaozhushan. I happened to meet these seven brothers and sisters, and they kindly let me join them to broaden my horizons. I apologize for the unannounced visit, Lotus Fairy,” Leo said, stepping forward before Chu Yuxiang could speak.
The Lotus Fairy nodded in understanding. “So, you’re from Xiaozhushan. What is your relationship with Daoist Qingzhu?”
“He is my master.”
Leo was momentarily surprised. He hadn’t expected the Lotus Fairy, a Nascent Soul cultivator, to know his master.
“I’m an old acquaintance of your master. When you return, tell him I invite him to visit when he has time. It’s been nearly fifty years since we last met,” she said, her tone softening and becoming more cordial upon hearing that Leo was Daoist Qingzhu’s disciple. Clearly, her relationship with Daoist Qingzhu was quite good.
“Yes, Lotus Fairy. I will make sure to deliver your message to my master,” Leo replied with a respectful bow.
The Lotus Fairy nodded and then gestured toward the Seven Sons of the Cloud. “Please, follow me inside, and we can discuss the matter of subduing the demon.”
Inside the small wooden house behind the herb garden, the Lotus Fairy’s expression turned serious as she laid out her plan.
“The spiritual ganoderma is located at the peak of Drunken Immortal Cliff, where the spiritual energy is most concentrated. Three days ago, the nine-headed demon python took over the area. I’m no match for it and had to retreat here to the herb garden.
Tomorrow, at three-quarters past noon, the ganoderma will take human form. The python plans to devour it as soon as it transforms to enhance its power. I’m not skilled in combat, so I’ll focus on protecting the ganoderma with my magical treasures to ensure its successful transformation. I’ll leave the task of subduing the demon to all of you.”
The “all of you” clearly referred only to the Seven Sons of the Cloud. In the Lotus Fairy’s eyes, Leo, as a mere Foundation Establishment cultivator, was there purely to observe. After all, the python could crush him with a single swipe of its tail.
“Rest assured, Lotus Fairy. You focus on protecting the ganoderma, and we, your brothers and sisters, will make sure the nine-headed demon python is vanquished!” Chu Yuxiang promised confidently.
While the nine-headed demon python was no ordinary beast, it was only at the early Nascent Soul stage. The Seven Sons of the Cloud had already defeated a Nascent Soul cultivator when they were at the mid-Core Formation stage.
Now, all of them had reached the peak of Core Formation, and they were confident they could handle the python—even if it were at the mid-Nascent Soul stage.
In this world, “demons” referred to plants or animals that had absorbed the spiritual energy of heaven and earth and gained sentience, eventually becoming demons. If a demon developed enough intelligence and received guidance from a cultivator, they could learn the arts of Daoism and eventually transform into human form.
The Lotus Fairy herself was once a spiritual lotus, enlightened by the Drunken Daoist, who helped her become the Lotus Fairy she was today.
Most unorthodox cultivators had similar origins, with many being transformed demons themselves, which explained why their allegiances were often neither fully righteous nor fully evil.
However, if a demon wasn’t enlightened and instead followed their instincts, absorbing spiritual energy and devouring other creatures or spiritual items to grow stronger, they would remain in their original beastly form—just like the nine-headed demon python that had taken over the mountaintop.
