MWM Chapter 262

This entry is part 263 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“But if I remember correctly, the Inhumans’ event was supposed to happen two or three years from now. Did my actions cause it to happen earlier?”

With a hint of confusion, Leo apparated into the interrogation room in his neighborhood.

Over the years, too many things had changed because of his influence. Thor had fallen in love with literature, Loki had been banished to Earth and become a small-time thug, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra had broken ties earlier than expected, and even the Chitauri invasion had been advanced by several years.

The butterfly effect had spread so far that the Inhumans launching their plans earlier wasn’t that surprising anymore.

“So, I hear you’re my fan?”

Leo smiled as he looked at the cute, half-Chinese, half-American girl in front of him.

Skye’s mother, Jiaying, was Chinese, and her father, Cal, was American, making her a mixed-race beauty.

“Yes, yes, I really admire you, that’s why I did this! I didn’t mean any harm, really!”

Skye, tied to the chair with rough ropes, looked up at him with wide, pleading eyes.

“Please, can you untie me and let me go? I promise I won’t do this again.”

Skye had grown up an orphan, having a rebellious personality and always longing to find her birth parents. As a result, she was constantly moved from one foster family to another.

Eventually, she ran away from her foster family to live on her own.

During that time, she met her boyfriend, Miles, a skilled hacker and a member of the Rising Tide organization.

Rising Tide was a global group of hackers who believed in exposing secrets hidden by governments to the public. They felt that people had the right to know the truth about everything in the world, and that no government had the right to keep such secrets.

Under Miles’ guidance, the naturally talented Skye became an even better hacker than him, eventually becoming a top-tier hacker herself. Through her skills, she discovered that her origins were somehow connected to an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D.

Since then, she had been trying to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s systems to uncover more about her past.

A few days ago, she managed to intercept some files from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s database. Among them, she found detailed information about the Dark Sorcerer, the superhero who single-handedly defeated an entire alien fleet during the invasion last year. She even discovered his real identity and home address.

Driven by curiosity, and motivated by her Rising Tide principles, she secretly drove to the neighborhood to investigate.

The alien invasion of New York the previous year had shaken the world, introducing the concept of superheroes to the general public. However, the government never explained why the aliens had invaded and kept all related information classified, saying only that the situation was under investigation.

Skye wanted to uncover the hidden truth and expose it to the public. She believed that Leo, the Dark Sorcerer, must know the secrets behind the invasion.

She hadn’t expected that after only a few days of surveillance, the muscle-bound security guards would apprehend her and threaten her with brutal-looking torture devices, scaring her into revealing some information in an attempt to gain their trust.

“So, I heard you hacked into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s system out of curiosity and got some information about me?”

Leo sat across from Skye.

She quickly nodded, saying:

“Yes, yes, I’m just an enthusiast, not a professional. I only succeeded by accident, I swear!”

“A hobbyist? You managed to break through S.H.I.E.L.D.’s system defenses? You must be pretty talented then!”

Leo gave her a thumbs-up, smiling.

“I thought you might be a member of the Rising Tide organization, but I guess not.”

“R-Rising Tide? Never heard of it. I’m just a computer hobbyist,” Skye stammered, forcing a nervous smile.

Leo didn’t expose her lie. Instead, he pointed at the ropes binding her:

“Release!”

The thick ropes immediately slackened and fell to the floor.

It was a release spell, a technique that loosened bindings like ropes and chains. It could also be used on people, making them feel weak and powerless.

“Amazing!”

Skye’s eyes sparkled with amazement at seeing real magic in action.

She had seen videos online, but witnessing magic firsthand was something else entirely.

“I admire your hacking skills. How about coming to work for me? The pay is good, and the hours are flexible.”

Leo stood up, extending an invitation to Skye.

He wasn’t just interested in her future as Quake, but also in her impressive hacking abilities. With just a second-hand laptop, she had managed to breach S.H.I.E.L.D.’s database.

In terms of hacking, Skye was probably one of the best on Earth.

He also needed her help to find the Inhumans.

He only vaguely remembered that the Inhumans’ current base was in a place called “Afterlife,” hidden in remote mountains.

Whenever a new Inhuman awakened their ancestral powers, a man named Gordon, an Inhuman with teleportation abilities, could sense them and bring them to the base.

The Inhumans were also actively searching for people worldwide with the Inhuman gene, bringing them to the base to be screened for powers.

Skye’s mother, Jiaying, who had the power of immortality, had lived for hundreds of years and was the leader of this group of Inhumans.

However, Leo didn’t know the exact location of their base.

“Uh… Can I refuse? I don’t really like working for others,” Skye replied cautiously.

Leo shrugged:

“Of course. I never force anyone. If you don’t want to work for me, you’re free to leave. Just don’t take any more secret photos of my wife next time, even though she is very beautiful.”

“Really…? Then I’ll go.”

Skye couldn’t believe she was being released so easily. She hesitated for a moment, then cautiously walked toward the door.

Leo smiled, making a gesture to let her go without stopping her.

Seeing that no one was preventing her from leaving, Skye quickly sped out of the interrogation room and rushed back to her old van.

“That was terrifying!”

She took a deep breath, relieved that no one was chasing her. She floored the gas pedal and sped away.

At first, she thought for sure she was done for.

“Boss, you’re just letting her go?”

Back at the surveillance monitor, Li San watched the van disappear in a cloud of dust, a puzzled expression on his face.

He thought Leo had some sort of plan, letting the girl go so they could follow her and track down the organization behind her. But it seemed like Leo was really letting her go.

“Of course, it’s not that simple.”

Leo smiled, pulling out his phone and dialing a number.

“Hey, Coulson? There’s a girl named Skye who hacked into your system and found my info. Her license plate number is…”
