- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 265
**Daniel Whitehall**, originally named Reinhardt, was a scientist under the Red Skull, tasked with researching the Obelisk, which was believed to contain the “Death Code.”
His experiments involved repeatedly forcing humans to touch the Obelisk, replacing the subjects each time one died. During this period, he encountered Jiaying, a woman who was immune to the petrification effects of the Obelisk.
After the Red Skull was defeated by Captain America, Reinhardt, his team, and the Obelisk were captured by Agent Carter and the Howling Commandos, and all experimental subjects, including Jiaying, were released.
However, due to Hydra’s infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. through Zola’s network, Reinhardt was secretly freed by Alexander Pierce and given a new identity: **Daniel Whitehall**. He resumed his work for Hydra.
At this point, as an elderly man, he discovered that Jiaying was still alive and hadn’t aged a day. Enraged by this discovery, Whitehall cruelly dissected Jiaying, transplanting her organs into his own body to restore his youth and gain her immortality.
But Jiaying did not die. She was found by her husband, stitched back together, and revived.
After her revival, Jiaying’s personality changed drastically. She returned to the Inhumans’ base, *Afterlife*, and began plotting revenge.
Her goal? Destroy S.H.I.E.L.D., eradicate humanity, and create a world solely for the Inhumans.
That idea… it feels oddly familiar.
Because Whitehall had conducted his dissection while posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, in Jiaying’s eyes, Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. were one and the same.
……………..
After apparating back to the interrogation room with Skye, Leo introduced her to a figure waiting for them:
“This is your supervisor, Li San. He’ll be in charge of your tasks from now on.”
“Hello, and sorry for what happened earlier,” Li San extended his hand.
Skye shrugged and shook his hand. “I get it. You were just trying to do your job.”
“Oh, by the way, I’d like you to leave the Rising Tide. Although it’s a nonprofit organization, it’s not as good as you think. A lot of the hackers there are actually information brokers, including your boyfriend, Miles.”
With Skye and Li San introduced, Leo suddenly remembered something and offered a word of caution.
He didn’t want Skye, while working for him, secretly passing information back to the Rising Tide, which could make sensitive information public.
And he wasn’t wrong—while Rising Tide had a noble mission, not all of its members were driven by altruism. Many hackers were in it for money, using the organization to obtain intelligence, which they sold at high prices.
Skye’s boyfriend, Miles, was one of those hackers, and he had even sold information to Hydra.
“That’s impossible! Miles isn’t like that! He’s doing all of this for our organization’s noble ideals. He’s a good person, and I won’t let you insult him like that!”
Skye’s anger flared at Leo’s words, as if he had touched a nerve.
Miles had taught her everything she knew about hacking, and he had instilled in her the values of Rising Tide’s mission. In Skye’s mind, Miles was an absolutely righteous person.
The thought that he might be selling information for money was something she couldn’t accept.
Leo, unfazed by Skye’s reaction, glanced at Li San.
“Did you find him?”
“He’s on his way. He should be here in about 20 minutes,” Li San replied, checking his phone.
Leo nodded and handed Skye a drink.
“No need to get so worked up. Calm down, have a drink, and sit. Your boyfriend Miles will be here in 20 minutes. You’ll see for yourself whether what I said is true.”
In fact, while trailing Skye earlier, Leo had already instructed the Ten Rings to locate Miles, and Li San’s team had forcibly brought him in.
Twenty minutes later, Miles was brought into the interrogation room.
However, Leo did not let Skye and Miles meet directly. Instead, he placed Miles in a room with a one-way mirror, allowing Skye to observe from the outside while Li San conducted the interrogation inside.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt him. It’s just a simple test,” Leo reassured the visibly tense Skye.
“If you hurt him, I swear I won’t work for you, even if you kill me,” Skye replied, her fingers clenched tight.
Leo smiled, unfazed by her defiance.
He liked Skye’s strong character. It was a quality that would make her loyal once she worked for him—similar to how Cao Cao admired Guan Yu’s loyalty to Liu Bei. It was precisely Guan Yu’s loyalty that made Cao Cao want him as an ally.
Inside the room, Miles was still dazed and terrified.
After the black bag was pulled off his head, he looked around the room and at the burly figure of Li San standing before him, fear clear in his eyes.
He had been working on cracking a government system from his apartment when a group of men barged in, threw a bag over his head, and dragged him here. Of course he was scared.
Had he been caught by the government agency he was trying to hack? It didn’t seem likely, given the non-critical nature of his target.
“We don’t need to talk about who we are. What matters is that I hear you can sell a lot of valuable information. Is that true?” Li San asked, his face impassive as he placed four briefcases on the table and opened them, revealing stacks of cash.
Miles’ fear quickly turned to delight at the sight of the money. He reached out and stroked the fresh bills with a grin.
“You should’ve said so from the start! No need to scare me like that. If your money’s good, I can get you any kind of intel you want.”
“Great. My boss has a grudge against the Dark Sorcerer. If you have any information on his true identity, all this cash will be yours,” Li San said, pushing the cases toward Miles.
Miles’ eyes lit up.
“Well, you’ve come to the right person. My apprentice just hacked S.H.I.E.L.D. and got some info on the Dark Sorcerer’s identity…”
Outside the room, Skye listened to Miles’ words and watched in shock as he greedily handled the cash. She was utterly stunned.
Was this really the Miles she had thought of as a righteous and kind person?
Suddenly, a burning anger of betrayal and deception surged within her.
