- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 266
When Skye initially intercepted the Dark Sorcerer’s information from S.H.I.E.L.D., Miles had told her that the Dark Sorcerer was a hero who saved humanity and that his company, the Li Corporation, had helped many poor people.
He emphasized that they couldn’t release the Dark Sorcerer’s information to the public, as doing so might endanger him. Instead, he suggested that Skye use his identity to dig deeper into the secrets S.H.I.E.L.D. was hiding.
But it turned out none of that was true. Miles had only wanted to keep that vital information to sell it at a high price.
Now, for the sake of money, he was ready to sell the Dark Sorcerer’s secrets to his enemies. This revelation shattered Skye’s faith in him.
“How do I know that if I give you the information, you’ll actually let me walk away with the money?”
In the interrogation room, Miles stuffed a bundle of cash back into the suitcase, his eyes gleaming with cunning. He was worried that after revealing the information, they might refuse to pay him.
Li San stood up and slammed his fist onto the steel table, leaving a clear dent. His voice was cold as he replied, “Our boss doesn’t need this money. Either you speak up now, take the cash, and get out, or I’ll send you to hell. Then I’ll find your apprentice, and I’m sure she won’t refuse this much money.”
Miles swallowed nervously, staring at the dent in the table. His expression quickly shifted to a fawning smile.
“No need to get angry, it was just a joke! Of course, I trust you. Besides, my apprentice is nothing like me. She’s an idiot who still believes in those naive ideals from the organization. She wouldn’t take your money.”
“Oh, so you are a smart one,” Li San replied with a mocking smile as he sat back down.
Miles shrugged.
“I used to be just like her, but then I realized that everything else in this world is garbage. Money is the only thing that matters. Without it, you can’t even afford a decent meal. I risked my life to get all that information, only to end up eating at a fancy restaurant and being thrown out because I couldn’t pay.
I’ve had enough of that.”
Just as he finished speaking, the door to the room was kicked open, and Skye stormed in, her face full of fury. Without hesitation, she slapped Miles across the face, her eyes red with anger as she screamed at him:
“You liar! You’re done for! I swear, you’re done for!”
Then she kicked him between the legs.
As a girl who had grown up as an orphan, shuffled from one foster home to another without the warmth of a family, Skye had always been starved for love. So when Miles treated her kindly, she fell for him.
But the fact that she had run away from her foster homes to live on her own, fighting against government institutions from the back of a van, showed that she was far from weak.
So when she realized she’d been deceived, she didn’t hold back.
“Skye, wait! Let me explain—oh, that hurts!” Miles gasped, trying to explain as he clutched his stomach after being kicked.
“I don’t want to hear your ‘blah, blah, blah’! You’re a piece of ‘beep’! I’m going to ‘beep’ you up!” Skye shouted as she unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks on him.
……
Ten minutes later, after Skye had calmed down, Leo handed her a drink.
“When judging someone’s character, don’t listen to what they say. Look at what they do.
Many people talk about morality, high ideals, and noble causes. It all sounds great, but behind closed doors, they’re doing all kinds of terrible things.
Then there are people who might not say much, but they save the world and do a lot of good for others. That’s what makes a person truly righteous.”
“Are you talking about yourself?”
Skye, who had been feeling down, rolled her eyes at Leo’s words.
Leo chuckled.
“Oh, did I make it that obvious?”
“Very obvious.”
Skye couldn’t help but smile a little.
“Thanks.”
Although she was joking, she had to admit that Leo’s words made sense. Thinking about what Leo had done compared to what Miles had done, there was no comparison.
At that moment, she made up her mind to work seriously under Leo.
“What about Miles…?”
Even though she had said she would kill him, Miles had been her teacher and boyfriend.
“Don’t worry. I’ve erased all his memories of you and this place. I handed him over to S.H.I.E.L.D. to deal with.”
Miles was insignificant in the grand scheme of things—not worth killing.
“Alright, now let’s talk about your parents.”
Leo steered the conversation to the main topic.
Hearing this, Skye’s focus sharpened.
“Your parents’ situation is complicated, so we need to start with the Kree who arrived on Earth 1,400 years ago.”
Leo then explained the origin of the Inhumans, the identity of Skye’s parents, and how Jiaying was planning to wage war between the Inhumans and humanity as part of her revenge.
Skye was left dumbfounded, as if she were listening to some outlandish sci-fi story.
If this had been a few years ago, she wouldn’t have believed it. But after last year’s alien invasion, combined with the fact that it was Leo, a sorcerer, telling her all this, she had no choice but to believe it.
“So, you want me to help you stop the war between the Inhumans and humans?”
“Yes, but you won’t have to do much. Once S.H.I.E.L.D. delivers the Obelisk, you’ll undergo your Inhuman awakening. Then, when they come to pick you up, I’ll take care of the rest. Don’t worry, I won’t harm them.”
Leo didn’t hide his plan from Skye and was honest about his intentions.
To him, the Inhumans posed no real threat. The only difficulty was locating their base, *Afterlife*.
Once he found it, the rest would be easy—a simple matter of overwhelming force.
“Alright. If things are really like you say, I’ll help you.”
After everything she’d just gone through, and considering who Leo was, Skye trusted him.
And as someone who had lived as an ordinary human all her life, Skye, with her kind heart, naturally didn’t want her mother to lead the Inhumans into a war with humanity.
So she agreed to Leo’s plan and to awaken her Inhuman abilities using the Obelisk.
“Good. Now we just need to wait for S.H.I.E.L.D. to deliver the Obelisk. I doubt they’ll take too long.”
Leo smiled, then apparated back home.
Sure enough, compared to the Hydra intelligence he’d provided, the Obelisk was a small matter.
The next morning, Coulson personally arrived with a team, delivering the Obelisk in a sealed case and relaying a message from Nick Fury.
The gist of it was that S.H.I.E.L.D. hoped for more collaborations like this with Leo.
