MWM Chapter 269

This entry is part 270 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

Hearing Nick Fury’s words, Steve fell silent.

He didn’t know how to resolve this issue either.

Since waking up, he had met Tony Stark a few times. To be honest, their first impression of each other wasn’t great. Tony thought Steve was an outdated relic, while Steve found Tony too frivolous. They simply couldn’t see eye to eye on anything.

However, after cooperating twice in missions against Hydra, their relationship gradually eased. Both saw undeniable strengths in each other, realizing that, deep down, they were very much alike.

“Knock! Knock! Knock!”

Just then, the door to the conference room was knocked, and Hill walked in holding a tablet.

“Director, a satellite just picked up a super-fast flying object, traveling at about Mach 30. Based on the satellite’s visuals, it’s Leo.”

The tablet displayed an image of Leo flying at high speed, merged with his sword wings.

Normally, S.H.I.E.L.D. would immediately attempt to intercept and track such a situation. But since the subject was Leo, she had to consult the director first.

“This guy is becoming more and more unpredictable.”

Nick Fury stared at the image on the tablet, eventually waving his hand helplessly.

“Don’t worry about him. No need to monitor or track him.”

When it came to Leo, as long as he didn’t cross any major lines, Fury preferred to turn a blind eye. Because, at this moment, there wasn’t much he could do to restrain him. Even Leo’s wife was a formidable person, unless Captain Marvel was called back.

But Leo wasn’t some notorious criminal. Just last year, he had helped defend Earth by repelling an alien invasion and frequently did good deeds in New York. His real-world identity was that of a globally famous philanthropist, the head of the Li Group, selling affordable medications that had saved countless people from cancer, disability, and poverty.

At present, Leo, the mysterious head of the Li Group, was even more popular worldwide than Tony Stark. If he were ever threatened, many people around the globe would likely rise in protest.

And just yesterday, he had handed them a lot of valuable information about Hydra.

Captain Marvel wasn’t under his command, and if she was called back, it would have to be for some truly world-threatening supervillain.

If he told Captain Marvel about what Leo had been doing, she’d probably turn around and leave.

So, Fury had made up his mind. Instead of antagonizing Leo, it was better to ally with him.

That way, if Earth ever faced another crisis too big to handle, at least there would be someone like Leo to take the lead.

Fury liked to have control over everything, but he wasn’t stupid.

Otherwise, why hadn’t he tried to control Captain Marvel, keeping her on Earth to help? Why should he care about the safety of life on distant planets?

“Fury, could you put in a word for Bucky? Given my relationship with him, I’m afraid Tony might misunderstand when the time comes.”

After some thought, Steve turned to Nick Fury.

But Fury quickly shook his head.

“It’ll probably make things worse if I go. Tony has no fondness for me or S.H.I.E.L.D. The only reason he helps fight Hydra is that he chooses to, not because of anything I say. You know that.”

Steve sighed, knowing Fury was right. Throughout their few collaborations, Tony had never once spoken well of Nick Fury.

“But you can go talk to him. If Tony’s willing to help, I don’t think there will be much of a problem.”

At this point, Fury flipped the tablet around, revealing Leo on the screen.

“Looks like this is the Inhuman base ‘Afterlife’!”

Twenty minutes later, Leo appeared above a small, isolated town, completely surrounded by mountains with no roads connecting it to the outside world.

The architecture of the town had a distinct Eastern style. A quick glance revealed that about a hundred people lived here.

According to the coordinates from the tracker, Skye was now in the house at the center of the town.

The hardest part was now done. The rest would be simple.

Without sneaking in or launching an attack, Leo just flapped the metal wings on his back and slowly descended into the town square.

Although the town’s residents were surprised to see someone with metal wings appear, they weren’t particularly shocked.

Recently, for reasons unknown, the village chief had been opening the fog more frequently. Some people had disappeared from the town, but many others had awakened their own Inhuman abilities.

A guy like Leo, with metal wings, seemed odd, but there were even stranger ones around.

So they just assumed he was another newly awakened Inhuman who could fly.

“Hey, sir! Don’t fly around in the square with your powers. If you want to fly, go to the training ground behind the mountain.”

One of the Inhumans kindly reminded him.

Leo simply smiled and nodded, then walked toward the house where Skye was.

“Knock! Knock!”

He politely knocked on the door. Almost immediately, a middle-aged woman’s voice came from inside.

“Who is it?”

“I’m a friend of Skye’s. May I come in and talk?”

Leo replied.

As soon as he finished speaking, Skye’s excited voice came from inside.

“Mom, he’s the friend I told you about who can help us!”

“Skye, you don’t understand. Humans will never accept us Inhumans. I’m glad the mist activated your powers, but you should stay here peacefully. Let me handle everything.”

Jiaying looked at her daughter, who had been lost to her for twenty years, and gave a glance to Gordon. He immediately disappeared through teleportation.

Suddenly, alarms blared throughout the entire town.

No one could stop her revenge. Not even her daughter could stand in the way of her plan to exterminate humanity.

Not even twenty minutes earlier.

When Skye was brought to “Afterlife” by Gordon, she met her long-lost mother, Jiaying, for the first time.

Due to the connection between Inhumans and Skye’s resemblance to her, Jiaying quickly realized that Skye was her long-lost daughter, Daisy.

Her greatest wish was revenge, but that didn’t mean she didn’t care for her daughter. The world was vast, and finding her in a sea of people had been near impossible.

Just as Jiaying was about to gather more information about Skye and use a device for a DNA test, Skye called out “Mom” first.

What followed was a heartwarming reunion, mother and daughter recounting the events of the past years.

Because of Leo’s instructions, Skye didn’t hold anything back. She told her mother that a friend had helped activate her powers, and that this friend would soon arrive to help the Inhumans live better lives without fear of rejection or cruelty from humans.

Skye had barely finished speaking when there was a knock at the door.

Leo had arrived.
