MWM Chapter 271

This entry is part 272 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“What do you want, exactly?”

In the living room, Jiaying couldn’t help but ask as she looked at Leo, who sat across from her, calmly munching on sunflower seeds.

“Oh, sorry. I haven’t had these in a long time. They’re hard to find overseas, and this is my favorite, the plum-flavored kind.”

Leo put down the sunflower seeds and clapped his hands. “It’s simple, really. Just give up on your plan to wipe out humanity and go back to living peacefully like before.”

“Alright, if that’s what it takes for you to leave us alone, I agree.”

Jiaying’s eyes flickered, but she agreed quickly.

Give up? Impossible. As long as she could trick this man and get Gordon to relocate everyone to a new place, the plan could continue as usual.

“Really?!”

Before Leo could respond, Skye jumped in excitedly.

She truly hoped her mother could let go of everything and start anew. Then, maybe she could reunite with her father, and they could finally be a happy family.

Growing up, whenever she was sent to a new foster home, she always thought, if her real parents were here, they’d never abandon her or give her away. She believed she’d be as happy as those other kids with complete families.

Surely, it must have been some accident that separated her from her parents.

After all these years of searching, Skye had finally found them, and it turned out to be because her mother had been captured and experimented on. That’s why she had become an orphan.

“Of course, my dearest daughter. For you, I’d give up on plans that are impossible to achieve,” Jiaying said with a gentle smile, though her eyes flashed coldly.

She realized now that her daughter probably wouldn’t side with her. When the time came to relocate, she might have to deal with Skye to ensure they wouldn’t be found again.

“You know, I have a spell that lets me read minds. You weren’t really planning to give up your plan, were you?”

Leo sighed and shook his head.

He didn’t actually know any mind-reading spells. Back in the wizarding world, neither Dumbledore nor Grindelwald had taught him Legilimency. But he had a trick—his system panel. The side mission wasn’t marked as complete, meaning Jiaying wasn’t telling the truth and had some other scheme in mind.

Jiaying was about to argue, but seeing the firmness in Leo’s eyes, she knew she’d been exposed. She stopped pretending, stood up angrily, and yelled:

“Give up? Never! If you want, just kill me! You have no idea the torture I endured back then. They performed cruel experiments on my body, cutting out my organs one by one and tossing the remains into the trash. I *will* have my revenge. I will kill all the wretched humans!”

“Mom!”

Skye’s eyes filled with tears as she listened to her mother’s anguished words.

Leo thought for a moment before replying, “How about this? I’ll bring you the man who experimented on you. You can do whatever you want to him. Torture him all you like, but let go of your plan.

I understand your pain, but revenge should be directed at those who hurt you, not all of humanity.”

He had already spoken to Coulson about saving Whitehall during their raid on Hydra, specifically for this moment.

However, Jiaying burst out laughing at Leo’s offer.

“You think I can’t kill him? But without him, how would my people understand the cruelty of humans? How would they unite under me?

He’s insignificant, just a small fry. I could kill him any time I wanted.

But what’s the point of killing him? There are countless others like him, humans who covet our power.

We were given these extraordinary abilities because we are superior to humans. We deserve to inherit this world, while humans are the ones who should be eliminated!”

If she truly wanted to kill Whitehall, she could have had Gordon and a few strong Inhumans handle it easily. But eliminating Whitehall wouldn’t solve the underlying problem, and it would hinder her plans. Not all Inhumans hated humans, and many had good relationships with them.

“Your thinking is a lot like Magneto’s,” Leo said with a raised eyebrow.

Come to think of it, Jiaying was quite similar to Magneto, except one was an Inhuman, and the other a mutant.

Jiaying might not be as powerful as Magneto, but she could live forever and continue to lead the Inhumans.

“Magneto?”

Jiaying looked confused.

“Oh, he doesn’t exist in this world—at least, not yet.”

Leo shrugged and stood up. “Well, if that’s the case, then there’s nothing I can do.”

“Kill me, then. Even if I die, the Inhumans will awaken sooner or later, and they’ll go to war with humans!”

Jiaying wasn’t afraid of death. Twenty years ago, she had already died.

“Leo, no! Don’t hurt my mother!”

Skye rushed in front of Jiaying, shielding her, and pleaded with Leo.

Leo paused, surprised.

“Why are you all so worked up? Did I say I was going to kill anyone? Am I really that heartless in your eyes?”

“Then what are you going to do?” Skye slowly lowered her arms, looking confused.

Leo was a hero who had saved the world, after all.

“I’m just going to erase her painful memories.”

Leo smiled and pointed at Jiaying.

“Obliviate!”

At her core, Jiaying was a kind person. It was only because of the inhumane torture she had endured at the hands of Whitehall that she had become twisted, both physically and mentally. By erasing those traumatic memories, she might return to her original self.

It was like someone who loses faith in love after a painful relationship—if that experience were erased, they would still be a hopeless romantic.

Of course, if this didn’t work, Leo was prepared to use the Mind Stone or confiscate all the Terrigen Crystals and imprison Jiaying.

Killing her would be the easiest, but it wasn’t the best solution.

After being hit by Leo’s memory-erasing spell, Jiaying froze for about ten seconds. Then she sat down, covering her face in shame.

“Oh my god, what have I done all these years!”

Without the painful memories that had twisted her psyche, Jiaying returned to her original kind-hearted self. But the memories of her recent actions still weighed heavily on her.

Especially in recent months, she had hastily triggered the mist to activate the genes of many Inhumans, without careful selection. Some had turned into monsters, and she had ordered them to be killed and disposed of.
