“It’s too dangerous for him to go alone. Maybe we should help!” Tony said, pacing back and forth in the secure room at the bottom of the cave. After waiting for a while, he heard faint screams from outside. He retrieved a mechanical arm-like device from a hidden box in the corner.
During their captivity, Tony and Yinsen had pretended to work on weapons for Raza but were secretly building the Mark I suit. However, they only had time to complete an incomplete arm and a few parts. The arm contained a small homemade rocket, not very powerful but enough to blow open the iron door.
“You’re right,” Dr. Yinsen agreed, grabbing an iron rod. He also felt they should help.
Tony, carrying the mechanical arm, and Yinsen, holding the iron rod, moved to a safe distance before Tony activated the switch. The small rocket, about thirty centimeters long, shot towards the iron door.
Just then, the door opened from the outside, and Leo, having already dealt with all the Ten Rings members, stepped inside.
“Watch out, get down!” Tony and Yinsen shouted, seeing the rocket heading straight for Leo.
Noticing the incoming rocket, Leo cursed under his breath about his “clumsy allies” and quickly used the Substitution Jutsu, swapping places with a chair in the room.
“Boom!”
The rocket exploded, blowing the iron door off its hinges.
“Tony, I came all this way to rescue you, and this is how you repay me?” Leo said, looking at Tony with an exasperated expression.
Seeing Leo dodge the rocket in a miraculous way, Tony sighed in relief and explained awkwardly, “We heard noises and wanted to help. I’m really sorry about this!”
“Alright, I have a forgiving nature. I’ve already dealt with everyone outside, so you’re free to go,” Leo replied, not too upset as he knew Tony hadn’t done it on purpose.
“All of them!?” Tony and Yinsen exclaimed in unison.
They were astonished that Leo had managed to eliminate so many armed terrorists by himself in such a short time. Even a movie super spy couldn’t achieve that.
After considering for a moment, they accepted it. After all, Leo likely had special abilities.
Following Leo out of the cave, they soon saw the charred body of the guard and dozens of corpses of the Ten Rings members with their throats slit. The sight made them shiver.
These terrorists had committed countless atrocities, so their deaths weren’t mourned. The shocking part was that Leo had done all this alone, unscathed.
“Ah, the taste of freedom, it’s wonderful! Leo, thank you so much for rescuing us. When we get back, I’ll introduce you to some beautiful women from Hollywood,” Tony said, his mood lifting as he basked in the sunlight outside the cave. This near-death experience had changed Tony profoundly, especially under Yinsen’s influence, giving him a deeper understanding of his actions and life. However, his love for jokes and beautiful women remained.
“No need for that. I’m already married and not interested. Just fulfill your promise to help my company when we return to New York,” Leo interrupted Tony.
Tony’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re married? You don’t look that old.”
“I just turned twenty and got married two months ago,” Leo replied, a rare look of happiness on his face.
Tony shook his head. “Marriage is the grave of love. I can’t believe you entered the grave so young. Not a wise choice.”
Tony had never considered marriage; he enjoyed short-term relationships with different women and stayed single even as he approached forty.
“I don’t agree, and I believe Mr. Li doesn’t either,” Yinsen interjected.
Leo nodded with a smile. “Absolutely.”
“Alright, I’ll have to visit you two after we get back to see if your marriages are as good as you say,” Tony shrugged.
“Sorry, but you’re not welcome at my home. My wife dislikes you,” Leo said bluntly.
“Dislikes me?” Tony blinked in surprise. Despite his reputation as a playboy, he was popular with most women.
“My wife is from Sokovia. Her parents were killed by one of your company’s missiles ten years ago. If you come to my house, she might chase you away with a broom,” Leo explained.
Tony fell silent, processing this. After a while, he said, “I’m sorry. That’s my fault. If possible, I’d like to apologize to your wife in person, even if she hits me with a broom.”
“Let’s discuss that later. For now, let’s get out of here,” Leo waved his hand, knowing Tony wasn’t entirely to blame. Like a blacksmith who makes a knife, it’s the person who uses it to kill that bears the responsibility. If Tony had directly killed Wanda’s parents, Leo wouldn’t have saved him; he would’ve taken him out himself.
“There are cars down there. We can drive away,” Yinsen suggested, pointing to a row of vehicles at the valley’s exit.
“No need. There are military reconnaissance planes patrolling the desert nearby. We just need to create a big enough disturbance, and they’ll find us. Then we’ll be safely escorted back,” Leo said. He leaped down, grabbing some of the explosives marked with Stark Industries’ logo, and placed them inside the cave.
He then led Tony and Yinsen up to the top of the valley, directly above the cave entrance.
