MWM Chapter 325

This entry is part 326 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“I’d like to invite you to join my team,” Leo said directly, sitting at the bar and ordering a drink for Star-Lord.

Without hesitation, Star-Lord immediately declined.

“Your team? Sorry, but the great Star-Lord already belongs to Yondu’s Ravagers and has no plans to switch to another Ravager crew,” Star-Lord replied.

This guy seemed decent, but Peter wasn’t looking to switch crews. If he were to leave, it would be to break away from the Ravagers entirely and form his own team someday.

Leo shook his head. “It seems you’ve misunderstood. I’m not a Ravager. My team is called the Guardians of the Galaxy. We’re dedicated to maintaining peace in the universe, and I think you have great potential, so I’d like to recruit you.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy? Wait, you’re that sucker—uh, I mean, very rich employer Yondu was talking about?” Star-Lord’s face showed a bit of surprise.

That morning, when Yondu had woken him up for a meeting, he had mentioned this rich employer, Leo, and the mission.

“That’s right. I’m Leo. The Guardians of the Galaxy are well-funded. If you join us, you’ll get a top-of-the-line ship and be named the vice-captain,” Leo promised, painting a grand picture.

“Ship? Did you say ‘ship’? You have a fleet?” Star-Lord’s eyes widened in shock.

There’s a big difference between a ship and a fleet. In the universe, ships are categorized as small, medium, and large.

Leo’s octopus ship, as well as the ships most Ravagers piloted, were small vessels. Karkarra’s ship, which could accommodate a dozen small ships, was considered medium-sized.

Large ships could hold hundreds of small ships, like Yondu’s. However, a fleet—a collection of multiple massive ships—was on a completely different level. Only powerful factions like the Nova Empire, Kree Empire, or Thanos commanded fleets. A single fleet ship could carry thousands of smaller vessels.

That’s why Leo offering Star-Lord a vice-captain position on a fleet ship was so astonishing.

“Not yet, but it shouldn’t take too long to get one,” Leo said confidently.

Star-Lord drained his drink in one go and stood up. “Thanks for the offer, but I’ll pass. I think you’ll find someone else better suited to be your vice-captain.”

Star-Lord didn’t believe any of what Leo had said. He did plan to leave Yondu’s Ravagers one day, but it wasn’t the right time yet. He needed to build up more capital first.

Leo wasn’t surprised by the refusal and called out to Star-Lord as he walked away, “If you decline now, there won’t be a vice-captain position next time—only an ordinary crew member spot.”

Star-Lord waved dismissively without turning back, showing no sign of changing his mind, and soon disappeared from sight.

The next day, Leo, Wanda, Gamora, and Nebula boarded Yondu’s large ship.

Compared to Yondu’s ship, Karkarra’s vessel looked like an outdated, second-hand model, completely outclassed.

“Oh, Mr. Leo, my big employer! I didn’t expect you to visit us, or I would’ve prepared a grand welcome for you on my ship!” Yondu greeted him warmly, surprised by Leo’s unexpected arrival but keen to show his enthusiasm given Leo’s wealth.

“I just wanted to say goodbye. We’re heading to Xandar this afternoon. If you hear anything, you can contact Gamora’s communicator,” Leo said, glancing at Yondu’s crew and noticing Star-Lord among them. He pointed to Gamora standing nearby.

The moment Star-Lord laid eyes on Gamora, he froze.

Her figure, her appearance, and that cold yet mysterious allure struck him deeply.

At thirty-one, Star-Lord had seen and experienced many women—likely over a hundred, from various planets and species—but none had ever made him feel the way Gamora did at that moment.

With just one look, his view of love had completely changed.

“Just as I thought,” Leo mused, noticing Star-Lord’s immediate attraction. He could tell from Star-Lord’s expression that he had fallen for Gamora at first sight.

This was exactly why Leo hadn’t pushed to recruit Star-Lord the previous night. He knew as long as Gamora was around, Star-Lord wouldn’t be going anywhere.

Star-Lord had inherited some of his father Ego’s traits—he had a history of sleeping with women from various species across the galaxy. But when it came to Gamora, he was reduced to an awkward boy experiencing love for the first time.

When Thanos killed Gamora, Star-Lord had punched Thanos in the face during *Avengers: Endgame*—a testament to how deep his love for her truly ran.

“Well then, I look forward to hearing from you soon,” Leo bid farewell to Yondu and returned to Karkarra’s ship with Wanda and the others.

Although Contraxia’s small town had plenty to offer, most of it wasn’t suited for him and Wanda to explore. After a day of wandering around, they had pretty much seen everything.

For a proper vacation, they needed to visit Xandar, the capital of the Nova Empire and the most bustling planet in the galaxy.

“Why aren’t we leaving now? Why wait until the afternoon?” Gamora asked curiously as they returned to Karkarra’s ship.

“Because we’re waiting for a new member,” Leo said with a grin, accepting a bite of alien food from Wanda as she fed him.

“A new member?” Gamora and Nebula exchanged puzzled glances.

“Boss, there’s a guy outside the ship named Star-Lord. He says he wants to see you,” Karkarra announced as he rushed in.

“See? Told you,” Leo said, standing up. “Let’s go meet the newest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy—Peter Quill.”

A few moments later, at the entrance of the ship, Leo was greeted by Star-Lord, fully geared up with a big grin.

“I thought about it last night and realized that joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, protecting the peace and safety of the universe, is a noble and meaningful cause. So, I’ve decided to leave the Ravagers and join you!” Star-Lord announced.

“There’s no vice-captain position now,” Leo said, amused.

Star-Lord replied with righteous determination, “That’s okay. It’s not about the title.”

“Good. Let’s board and get ready to depart!” Leo gestured for Karkarra to start the ship’s engines.
