MWM Chapter 332

This entry is part 333 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

**One week later, at the Kyln prison on Morag.**

“Warden, I believe Nova Prime has already informed you of our visit,” Leo said to the warden standing in front of him, dressed in a Nova Corps uniform.

The warden scanned Leo and his group with a device, then smiled and nodded, “Yes, please follow me. It’s recreation time right now, so they should be in the common area.”

Following the warden, Leo and his group quickly walked down a long corridor and stopped in front of a thick metal door.

“Both 89P13 and Groot are considered oddballs in this prison, so I arranged for them to be housed in the same cell. Surprisingly, they’ve gotten along pretty well. But with Rocket’s 11 counts of theft, 20 counts of prison escape, 5 counts of mercenary activities, and 12 counts of arson, he’s looking at 25 years behind bars. Groot is in for vandalism, so he’s got just two years left,” the warden rambled, giving a rundown of Rocket and Groot’s crimes. He pulled out a metal access card and held it to the door’s electronic lock.

“Huh? Why isn’t it opening?”

The warden frowned in confusion as the metal door failed to open, which should have been impossible given his clearance level.

“Watch out!”

Sensing something was wrong, Leo quickly grabbed the warden by his collar and pulled him aside.

*Boom!*

With a deafening explosion, the metal door caved in and was blasted straight toward Leo and the group.

Star-Lord and the others gasped in shock, instinctively stepping back. But before they could fully retreat, they saw Leo effortlessly catch the heavy door with one hand and toss it aside.

“What is happening?” The warden stood frozen in shock, staring at the chaos inside the common area. The room, once intended for prisoner recreation, had turned into a full-blown riot. Prisoners were locked in combat with the guards, and standing in the midst of it all were Rocket and Groot, looking especially conspicuous.

“Hey! You’d better get out of my way, or I’ll blast you with another bomb!” Rocket, perched on Groot’s shoulder, wielded a massive energy cannon, shouting at Leo’s group, who were blocking the doorway.

It was clear that the disabled alarms, the uprising in the common area, and the blasted door were all Rocket’s handiwork—a true jailbreak expert at work.

“Good thing we got here early. Any later, and we’d have missed them,” Leo thought to himself. Had they arrived a bit later, Rocket and Groot would likely have escaped, and tracking them down in the vast expanse of the galaxy would have taken much longer.

“Didn’t you hear me? Get out of the way!” Rocket growled, aiming the heavy energy cannon at them.

“I am Groot!” Groot growled, trying to appear menacing. Rocket had taught him that if you looked fierce enough, people would fear you and stop bothering you.

“Raccoon, I suggest you put that thing down and climb off that tree,” Star-Lord said, quickly drawing his two elemental pistols and aiming them at Rocket and Groot.

“Wait, what’s a raccoon?” Rocket asked, confused.

Star-Lord shouted back, “What’s a raccoon? You are, dumbass! Now drop your weapon!”

“I’m not a raccoon! I’m Rocket! You should be the one dropping your weapon. Or do you want me to blast you into bits?” Rocket retorted, pointing the cannon at Star-Lord.

“*Expelliarmus!*” Leo calmly waved his hand, and the energy cannon flew out of Rocket’s hands, disarmed by magic.

“Looks like someone else is the one dropping weapons now, huh?” Star-Lord grinned smugly as Rocket’s cannon was flung aside.

“Keep an eye on those two. I’ll help the warden restore some order here,” Leo said with a shake of his head before walking into the common area. He placed his hands on the ground and cast, “*Lightning Release: Earth Walk!*”

Electricity surged from him, spreading throughout the room and knocking out every prisoner and guard involved in the brawl.

“Warden, you can take care of the rest from here,” Leo said.

“Who the hell are you, and where are you taking us?” Rocket asked, staring at Leo from aboard the Milano.

He had thought their jailbreak had failed, but instead of being thrown back into prison, he and Groot were now on this ship. He had attempted to escape several times with Groot’s help, but every time, they were frozen in place by the intense red-eyed stare of the man in front of them.

“We’re the Guardians of the Galaxy, and I’m their leader, Leo. I want you to join our team,” Leo explained bluntly.

Rocket looked astonished, “Join your team? Why? We don’t even know you, and what exactly does your team do?”

“Rocket, we’ve never met, but I know you’re a genius, a super-genius, with incredible skills. As for our team, we’re currently focused on protecting the galaxy.”

Leo’s invitation wasn’t just to fulfill his mission, though that was the primary reason. Rocket truly was a super-genius, even more brilliant than Tony Stark.

Rocket had once been an ordinary raccoon in North America, lab subject 89P13. After enduring countless experiments led by the High Evolutionary of the OrgoCorp, Rocket was modified to have mechanical bones, advanced speech capabilities, and the ability to walk upright. His intelligence had evolved to a level even beyond the High Evolutionary, allowing him to point out errors in his creator’s experiments.

Rocket’s dream had always been to escape with his three best friends—Lylla the otter, Teefs the walrus, and Floor the rabbit—to see the beautiful universe. But his three friends had all been killed by the High Evolutionary, leaving Rocket as the sole survivor who escaped from Halfworld.

“Haha, you’ve got to be joking. Protecting the galaxy? Why should I care about that? If you hadn’t shown up, Groot and I would have already escaped,” Rocket scoffed.

Leo wasn’t offended by his response and simply smiled. “Rocket, if you join the Guardians of the Galaxy, I’ll help you kill the High Evolutionary and avenge your friends. How does that sound?”

“How… how do you know about that?” Rocket, who had been laughing heartily moments ago, abruptly stopped. His expression shifted dramatically, now filled with a mix of shock and emotion.
