MWM Chapter 338

This entry is part 339 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

Three days later.

“I’ve already discussed everything with his chieftain. The chieftain said he’s willing to join you, as a way to repay you for saving their planet and his family.

However, you should be cautious during your interactions because this race generally isn’t very bright—the more muscular they are, the simpler their minds.

Drax is their greatest warrior, so this is especially true for him.

But I assure you, despite their simplicity, they are incredibly kind-hearted. That’s why we accepted and helped them.”

The Nova Corps commander stationed on planet TS-214 explained this carefully to Leo and his group as they stood outside a room in the base.

With the Skrull Empire eliminated, the two biggest powers in the galaxy were now the Kree Empire and the Nova Empire.

However, the two empires exhibited very different approaches when exploring new territories.

When the Kree Empire’s exploration teams found a new valuable planet, they would immediately dispatch a fleet to conquer it. If the inhabitants surrendered, they’d be forced to join the Kree Empire as second-class citizens. If they refused, they were either killed or captured as slaves.

In contrast, when the Nova Empire’s exploration teams discovered a planet with life, they would first send cloaked ships to observe the planet’s situation.

If the civilization reached a certain level, envoys would be sent to make contact and invite the planet to join the Nova Empire family.

Unlike the Kree’s method of conquest, joining the Nova Empire didn’t affect a planet’s sovereignty. They could trade with the empire and even request military protection from Kree invasion.

Of course, planets could choose to refuse, as the Nova Empire never forced any planet to join.

If a planet’s civilization hadn’t yet advanced—for example, if it was still in the dinosaur era like Earth once was—they would leave it alone, noting the coordinates and checking back periodically.

Planet TS-214 was one such planet that accepted the invitation and requested Nova Empire protection.

Why didn’t Earth get the same treatment?

Because Earth, as one of the Nine Realms, was nominally under Asgard’s control.

“Commander, thank you for your help!”

Leo shook hands with the commander and entered the room.

Drax wasn’t like Star-Lord or Rocket, who had obvious weaknesses that could be leveraged. In fact, Drax’s simplicity made him even harder to recruit, as he was straightforward and unyielding.

Drax had initially joined the Guardians of the Galaxy to avenge his wife and child by hunting down Ronan.

Now, with Leo’s intervention, Drax’s family was alive and well. Would he still be willing to leave them behind and join the Guardians to go on cosmic adventures?

Clearly, that wasn’t likely.

He didn’t care for money or pleasure, making him a difficult person to sway.

That’s why Leo had the local commander and chieftain help with the recruitment efforts.

As expected, the outcome was satisfactory.

“Drax, welcome to the Guardians of the Galaxy!”

Inside the room, Leo shook hands with the hulking, muscular Drax.

Drax unsheathed his two daggers from his waist and said seriously, “The chieftain and my wife told me to listen to you. You saved our planet and all our people. Whoever you tell me to kill, I’ll kill.”

“There’s no need for such hostility. The Guardians of the Galaxy are mainly about maintaining peace in the universe, so most of the time, we resolve things through virtue and harmony.”

Leo patted Drax on the shoulder, signaling him to put the daggers away.

Hearing this, Star-Lord and the others all twitched their mouths in unison.

After seeing the ship full of Kree soldier corpses, they had a pretty good idea of what Leo’s so-called “virtue and harmony” actually meant.

“By the way, did you properly say goodbye to your wife? It might be a few months before you can return.”

“Before I came, we spent two hours together, first doing this… and then doing that…”

As Drax began describing the details of his “battle” with his wife, Star-Lord quickly interrupted:

“Whoa, hey! Buddy, there are three ladies here, not the best topic of conversation.”

“Why? Do you, like those Xandarians, also have emotional dysfunction?”

Drax asked with complete sincerity.

Star-Lord was speechless for a moment.

“No, we don’t have emotional dysfunction. It’s just that talking about such private matters isn’t appropriate in public.”

“Private? Where I’m from, it’s a beautiful thing. Every winter, my father would tell us in great detail about the wonderful things he and my mother did!”

Drax’s face was full of confusion.

Wanting to make a good impression on everyone, he had intentionally shared these beautiful moments with them.

Seeing Star-Lord and Drax arguing, Gamora and Nebula both rubbed their foreheads.

The two sisters never quite understood why Leo recruited so many oddballs, even going so far as to visit different planets to find them.

Recruiting Star-Lord made sense since they needed a guide on Xandar and a pilot for the ship, and Rocket was an exceptional mechanic. But what was the point of recruiting Drax?

Did Leo value Drax’s strength as the top warrior of his planet?

That couldn’t be it. With Leo’s ability to take down Ronan and the Dark Aster by himself, he had no need for a brute like Drax.

But the sisters didn’t dare question him. Leo’s actions were always difficult to predict.

“Alright, you can continue this conversation on the ship. We’re heading to our next destination.”

Seeing Rocket join the debate and things escalating, Leo interrupted, gathering everyone to return to the ship.

Each planet had its own customs, and as long as they weren’t too evil, they should be respected.

Over the past three days, while exploring the planet with Wanda, Leo had gotten a feel for the people’s personalities. Just as the commander had said, the locals were generally simple and innocent.

Drax was just an extreme example of this.

“Nebula, how long will it take to reach Ego’s planet?”

Once the ship took off, Leo sat on the sofa in the ship’s lounge and asked.

Nebula’s eyes flashed with data.

“At the Milano’s speed, it’ll take about ten days.”

“Alright, set the Milano to autopilot and gather everyone in the lounge for a meeting.”

Leo nodded and gave his instructions.

Soon, Gamora, who was cuddling her plush toy in her room, Drax, still discussing emotional dysfunction, Star-Lord, Rocket, and Groot, who was perched behind Rocket like a potted plant, were all called to join Leo and Wanda.

Once everyone was gathered, Leo slowly asked:

“Do you know why I went to so much trouble to find each of you and recruit you into the Guardians of the Galaxy?”
