- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 339
“Why?”
Aside from Groot and Drax, who both looked confused, Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora, and Nebula all showed curious expressions.
They’d all wondered about this question for a while, especially after realizing the true extent of Leo’s power, but no one had dared to ask.
Leo cleared his throat, and his expression turned serious.
“You should all know that I’m capable of various forms of magic.”
“What is magic?” Drax asked, completely perplexed.
“It’s something like this.”
Leo pointed at the cup in front of Drax, and the cup instantly transformed into an inflatable clown monkey.
“Oh, this little clown is adorable! I love it!” Drax’s eyes lit up, and he hugged the inflatable monkey like a child who had just received his favorite toy.
Star-Lord and the others were stunned. They had always thought of Drax as a tough guy, all muscle and no brains, but they never expected him to have such a childish side.
“In the magic I’ve learned, there is a form of prophecy magic that allows me to see glimpses of the future.”
After settling Drax, Leo continued.
“And in some of those future glimpses, I saw all of you—people who would repeatedly save the galaxy from crisis.
That’s why I gathered you all in advance and formed the Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Of course, Leo didn’t actually know any prophecy magic. In the wizarding world, only those born with the ability to foresee—people with a “third eye”—could use such magic, and it couldn’t be learned through training.
Moreover, even for those with the ability, prophecy was often random and unclear, offering only fragments of visions and words.
Grindelwald was one such seer. He successfully predicted the outbreak of World War II and foresaw the devastating power of human-made nuclear weapons, which fueled his determination to eliminate most of humanity.
The wizard from whom Leo inherited his abilities didn’t possess a third eye or prophetic powers.
However, what he said wasn’t entirely false—because in the original timeline, Star-Lord and the others did form the Guardians of the Galaxy and saved the galaxy multiple times.
“Us? Save the galaxy?”
After hearing Leo’s words, most of the group found it hard to believe.
Gamora and Nebula had been raised by Thanos as assassins, trained from childhood to kill. Though they had now turned against Thanos, they couldn’t see themselves as saviors of the galaxy—avoiding killing was already a significant step for them.
Rocket just wanted to make money and live a carefree life with Groot. Avenging his fallen friends seemed far more likely than doing something noble like saving the galaxy.
As for Drax, well, he was busy hugging his clown monkey and hadn’t heard a word of what Leo said.
Only Star-Lord’s eyes brightened as he stood up confidently and declared:
“I knew it! I always had the feeling that one day I’d become a big-shot, saving the galaxy—that definitely fits who I’m supposed to be!”
In fact, Star-Lord, despite his unreliability, was the glue that held the Guardians together. Though he lacked the typical qualities of a leader, he was still universally recognized as the team’s captain.
“Yes, you may find it hard to believe now, but my prophecy was clear. Otherwise, think about it—how would a human who’s never left Earth know all your names?”
Leo nodded firmly, then continued with a solemn expression:
“And now, the place we’re heading to holds our final member. This mission is the one that will truly save the entire galaxy.”
Hearing this, the team immediately focused, even Drax, who was still holding his clown monkey, perked up.
They were all eager to know what kind of terrifying crisis could threaten the entire galaxy, one that even someone as powerful as Leo found challenging.
However, just as Leo was about to explain, he turned to Drax and asked:
“Drax, are you feeling sleepy right now?”
“Sleepy? No, I feel wide awake,” Drax replied, still clutching his clown monkey.
“No, you’re sleepy. You want to go to sleep now.”
Leo pointed at Drax, casting a sleep spell. Drax immediately leaned back on the sofa and began snoring.
“The rest of this conversation isn’t suitable for him to hear.”
Leo smiled at the confused looks from the others and explained before continuing:
“A long, long time ago, a superbrain with self-awareness emerged in the universe. Over millions of years, it developed consciousness and learned to manipulate molecules and energy.
Eventually, it built layer upon layer of protective armor around itself, evolving into a living planet—our destination, Ego.”
“A living planet with self-awareness? That’s… unbelievable,” Star-Lord said, wide-eyed. Even with all his experience in the galaxy, he had never heard of something so outlandish.
Leo just smiled.
“What’s even more unbelievable is that this living planet has developed ambition. It wants to turn every planet in the universe into its extension and use all life as fuel to enhance its power.”
“But how can it turn all planets into its extensions? The Nova Empire, the Kree Empire, and the Sovereign Empire would never allow that. Thanos, on the other hand, might not oppose it,” Gamora reasoned logically.
Even if Ego was powerful, it couldn’t possibly stand against all the major forces in the universe, right?
Leo raised his hand.
“Don’t worry. Let me explain.”
After a brief pause, he continued.
“In order to silently devour all the planets in the universe, Ego created a human avatar and traveled to different planets, planting seeds.
Once these seeds sprouted, they would consume the entire planet and all its inhabitants, transforming it into another part of Ego’s body.
However, Ego’s power alone wasn’t enough to activate all the seeds at once. So, he began mating with women from various planets, hoping to produce a child who shared his abilities and could help him activate the seeds.”
At this point, Leo looked at Star-Lord.
“After having children with women from all over the universe, Ego hired a Ravager named Yondu to collect these children and bring them to him.
Unfortunately, none of these children inherited his powers, so Ego killed them all and buried their bodies on his planet.
Similarly, on my home planet Earth, Ego fathered a child, and twenty-three years ago, Yondu took that child away.”
By now, Star-Lord was frozen in place. Based on his own experiences, he realized that the child Leo was talking about was most likely… him.
