- MWM Chapter 380
Just as Leo and Star-Lord were talking, the disintegrated form of Ego’s avatar reassembled once again.
As long as Ego’s core remained intact, he couldn’t be killed. He could endlessly regenerate his avatars.
“What are you?” Ego’s avatar glared at Leo, confusion written all over his face.
He had initially assumed Leo was just another one of Star-Lord’s ordinary teammates, but he hadn’t expected Leo to possess such immense power, capable of destroying his avatar with a single strike.
Leo patted Star-Lord on the shoulder and gave him a knowing look.
“Introduce our team and explain why we’re here.”
Understanding the hint, Star-Lord immediately began his dramatic speech.
“We are here to protect the universe from destruction, to maintain peace across the galaxy, to uphold love and justice as the Guardians of the Galaxy! And this time, our mission is to, on behalf of all planets and life in the universe, destroy you, you—”
Ego’s avatar’s eyebrows furrowed as he listened to Star-Lord’s rambling. Just as he was about to interrupt, his face twisted in anger.
“You intend to destroy my core!”
What had happened was that when Leo had teleported to Star-Lord’s location, his shadow clone had, with Mantis’ guidance, led the others toward the cavern closest to Ego’s core.
Leo had been intentionally stalling, ensuring Ego’s attention remained focused on them, causing him to overlook the actions of the shadow clone.
“Looks like we’ve been found out. Let’s move!”
Realizing Ego had caught on, Leo quickly teleported himself and Star-Lord out of there with **Flying Thunder God**.
Inside Ego’s planet, near a massive cavern not far from the core, countless energy tendrils erupted from the ground, thrashing about like tentacles, aiming to strike down the shadow clone leading the group toward the core.
“**Crystal Wall!**”
The shadow clone immediately used its cosmos energy, casting Mu’s **Crystal Wall** technique to block the incoming tendrils.
But the tendrils were overwhelmingly powerful and attacked in such rapid succession that the Crystal Wall shattered within seconds.
Luckily, at that moment, Leo’s true form arrived with Star-Lord.
“I’ll handle Ego. Mantis, try to put him to sleep. Everyone else, protect Mantis and find Ego’s core as quickly as possible!”
With those instructions, Leo created hundreds of additional shadow clones, each using a combination of magic, ninjutsu, Taoist techniques, and Saint Seiya moves to fend off the energy tendrils aiming for Mantis and the others.
Meanwhile, Leo’s main body faced off against a powerful avatar of Ego that had gathered the majority of his celestial power.
“I am Ego, the Celestial who has lived for millions of years. Do you really think you, a mere mortal, can stop me?”
With a roar, Ego summoned countless massive rocks, fusing them with his body to transform into a towering, hundred-meter-tall rock giant. He lunged at Leo with a celestial-powered punch.
Leo, however, was not one to back down. He immediately donned the Sagittarius Gold Cloth and activated his **Three-Headed, Six-Armed Susanoo**.
“If you’re a god, then what does that make me?”
Leo’s Susanoo clashed with Ego’s rock giant in mid-air, engaging in a fierce battle.
At close range, he used the golden rope to bind Ego, attacked with spears, and occasionally unleashed **Galaxian Explosion** and **Stardust Revolution** from the Susanoo’s forehead.
At a distance, Leo fired energy arrows and the Sagittarius Golden Arrow in combination with his own attacks.
Through these relentless efforts, Leo managed to suppress Ego’s avatar, which had gathered a substantial amount of celestial power.
However, completely destroying this avatar was difficult because, no matter how much damage Leo inflicted, Ego could rapidly heal using his celestial power.
For now, Leo’s goal was to keep Ego occupied, preventing him from directing his celestial energy toward attacking the others.
“Mantis, quickly use your powers to make Ego sleep!” one of Leo’s shadow clones called out to Mantis below.
Mantis, clearly lacking confidence in her abilities, hesitated.
“But… but he’s so strong! I can usually only make him sleep when he wants to…”
“Drax, give her some encouragement,” Leo’s shadow clone urged, knowing that Mantis trusted Drax more than anyone else.
Drax, wielding his daggers, looked at Mantis with sincerity and said, “You don’t need to believe in yourself, because we believe in you!”
Hearing this, Mantis was momentarily stunned, but then she steeled herself. Pressing her hands to the ground, her antennae lit up, and she pushed her powers to the limit, trying to put Ego to sleep.
“No!” Ego’s avatar, still locked in battle with Leo’s main body, let out a furious roar as he and the energy tendrils suddenly vanished.
“I don’t know how long I can keep him asleep, but I’m doing my best,” Mantis said, struggling as she used her powers.
Behind her, Drax, still in disbelief, muttered, “I didn’t think she could actually do it… She’s so frail.”
Fortunately, from a nearby cave, the voices of Star-Lord, Rocket, and Groot could be heard.
“Here! Ego’s core is here! We found it!” Star-Lord shouted.
“Finally, they did something useful,” Leo said with a sigh, instantly teleporting next to Star-Lord.
In front of him was a massive, pulsating red brain. It looked disturbingly similar to a pig’s brain but radiated immense energy and life force, far beyond what any ordinary being could possess.
“It’s a waste to just destroy this. Let’s see if we can wipe out its soul and consciousness instead.”
Ego’s biggest weakness was his core—the brain in front of them. It was incredibly fragile, and even a high-explosive bomb could easily destroy it. Once the core was destroyed, Ego would die.
If Leo wanted to end Ego, he could do it with a single punch, complete the mission, and earn two years in the small world.
But now, he hesitated. Destroying the core seemed like a waste of such immense energy and life force. Plus, if Ego died, Star-Lord’s celestial powers would vanish too.
Leo wondered if he could try removing Ego’s soul and consciousness, leaving only his life force and energy intact. That way, the mission would still be complete, and Star-Lord could retain his celestial powers.
More importantly, in the future, if Leo could bring the God Tree back to his world, he could plant it directly in this brain, using Ego’s millions of years of accumulated energy to grow the God Tree’s fruit.
With Ego’s millennia of accumulation, he was likely more valuable than an average living planet.
If it didn’t work, Leo could always destroy the core later.
“**Rinnegan: Soul Extraction!**”
Leo pressed both hands against the brain and once again activated the Human Path’s **Soul Extraction** ability through his Rinnegan.
