- MWM Chapter 442
“Could that dragon that attacked Helgen be one of the few dragons driven away back in the day?”
Leo mused to himself.
“It seems the dragons of this world are quite powerful,” he thought.
Compared to the dragons from *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them*, the dragons of this world were significantly stronger.
First, there was their intelligence. Dragons in this world had at least human-level intelligence, if not higher. Otherwise, they couldn’t have ruled humanity for so long and even used humans to govern themselves.
In contrast, the dragons from *Fantastic Beasts* seemed almost primitive, likely no smarter than large lizards.
Next, there was physical strength. According to the bandits’ description, the dragon that flew over Helgen was several times larger than the dragons from *Fantastic Beasts*, suggesting that it had far greater physical power.
Finally, in addition to their natural ability to breathe fire, the dragons of this world also knew numerous dragon-speech-based magic spells, a significant edge over the dragons in *Fantastic Beasts*. In fact, human magic in this world originated from dragons.
Clearly, these two species weren’t even in the same league—similar in appearance and name only.
Closing *The Dragon War*, Leo picked up the third book, *Thief*, and after just a glance, tossed it aside.
It was a novel, telling the story of a thief. Though it might teach a few tricks for stealing, it was completely useless to him.
Then came the fourth book, *The Energetic Argonian Maid*.
“…polish my spear…I’ll have to do it all night…”
After reading halfway through, Leo’s lips twitched, and he tossed the book aside.
On the surface, the book depicted everyday conversations between an Argonian maid and her master, but any man could see that the author was pushing boundaries—and doing so brazenly.
No wonder Lucan had worn such a sleazy expression when selling it, speaking in hushed tones.
But seriously, an Argonian maid? The tastes of people in this world were… quite bold.
Argonians were essentially humanoid lizards. While their bodies resembled human females, complete with curves, they had long, thick tails and, most notably, reptilian heads.
Having a lizard… well, let’s not go there.
Shaking his head, Leo finally picked up the last book, and the only one with magical content: *Sparks*.
“Let’s see what this world’s magic is like.”
Two hours later, after thoroughly studying the spellbook, Leo flashed out of his room and appeared by the small river just outside Riverwood. He raised his right hand towards the water and incanted:
“Sparks!”
Instantly, a bolt of forked lightning, about the thickness of his forearm, shot from his hand.
The lightning didn’t travel away but formed a three-meter-long electric beam, sustained as long as Leo poured magical energy into it. The beam moved as he moved his hand, and by controlling the amount of energy, he could adjust the intensity of the current.
This was one of the three basic Destruction spells: Sparks.
The other two were *Flames* and *Frostbite*, both functioning similarly—one conjured a stream of fire, while the other released freezing cold air.
The spellbook for *Sparks* taught how to channel internal magical energy and convert it into electricity, not particularly advanced knowledge, especially for someone like Leo, a seasoned mage.
Although the magical studies of the *Elder Scrolls* world and *Fantastic Beasts* world diverged in certain directions, their core principles remained similar.
After reading the book a few times, Leo had completely mastered this low-level Destruction spell.
Raising his left hand, he conjured another electric beam. With both hands casting the spell into the river, a wave of electrocuted fish leaped from the water.
“The power is a bit lacking, but it’s still useful.”
Dismissing the *Sparks* spell, Leo nodded in satisfaction at the results.
Though the spell was far weaker than his ability to summon thunderbolts or use high-level Lightning Release jutsu, it was convenient, quick to cast, and required minimal effort.
After all, *Sparks* was just an entry-level Destruction spell. The more advanced spells would surely pack a punch, and besides, Destruction was only one of the five schools of magic in this world.
Because he had mastered the small universe, his physical abilities were currently his strongest asset, followed by his ninja techniques. Magic, at this point, was his weakest area. But if he could absorb the magical knowledge of this world and fill that gap, it would be a significant advantage.
After testing *Sparks*, Leo used his teleportation ability to return to his room.
That evening, after finishing all the books, Leo stepped out of his room and into the main hall of the inn.
A large rectangular firepit blazed in the center, roasting an entire deer. Around the firepit, several tables were packed with villagers, eating roasted meat and drinking ale. Some sang along with the bard Sven, who was strumming his lute, while others gathered to chat loudly, creating a lively atmosphere.
“Once there was a hero named Ragnar the Red,
Who came riding to Whiterun from ole Rorikstead,
And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade,
As he told of bold battles and gold he had made…”
“Barkeep! A plate of venison and two bottles of ale!”
Leo found an empty seat and called to Delphine, the innkeeper.
He hadn’t come out just to sample the local cuisine or enjoy the ale. After all, the food in these medieval-style inns left much to be desired. But the atmosphere was interesting.
However, his main goal was to listen in on the villagers’ conversations, hoping to gather useful information.
“Twenty-five gold coins,” Delphine, a woman of sturdy build, soon brought the golden-brown roasted venison and two bottles of ale to Leo’s table.
In truth, when Leo first saw Delphine earlier that day in the Sleeping Giant Inn, he was a bit surprised.
Not because she was particularly attractive, but because it was clear to him that she was no ordinary innkeeper. The way she walked and the strength hidden in her muscles suggested she was a formidable warrior.
But he didn’t pry, as it didn’t concern him.
Just as he reached into his pocket to pull out the twenty-five gold coins, Delphine pushed his hand back.
“Your food and drink have already been paid for by Lady Gerdur.”
“Lady Gerdur, the town’s mayor?”
Leo turned his head toward a woman sitting at a nearby table. She was indeed Gerdur, Riverwood’s mayor and the owner of the town’s largest lumber mill.
When Gerdur saw him look over, she picked up her drink and walked toward him.
“You must be Mr. Leo. As the town’s mayor, I want to thank you for clearing out the bandits on Bleak Falls Barrow. Now our villagers can leave town without fear.”
