- MWM Chapter 454
There was no way Leo was going to let the dragon slip away so easily.
Aside from not having learned Alduin’s location or plans, he absolutely needed to claim this dragon’s soul.
So, just as Mirmulnir struggled to get up and flee, Leo’s figure flickered, swiftly moving past Irileth and her guards to appear directly in front of Mirmulnir. He brought his foot down hard on the dragon’s head.
With the power of his cosmos, the force of Leo’s stomp smashed Mirmulnir’s head into the ground, leaving a huge crater.
“I’ll ask you again: where is Alduin now? Why has he returned, and what are his plans?”
Pinned beneath Leo’s foot, Mirmulnir felt as though his skull was cracking. He desperately clawed at the ground, trying to escape Leo’s crushing pressure.
But no matter how much he struggled, Leo’s burning cosmos was like a mountain, holding him firmly in place, even without the use of the Eight Gates technique.
The sight left Irileth and the remaining Whiterun guards utterly dumbfounded.
The dragon that had nearly crushed them in battle, filling them with despair, was now effortlessly subdued by a seemingly unknown adventurer.
The once-mighty dragon, now reduced to desperately clawing at the ground to escape, resembled nothing more than a defeated, whimpering dog.
“I don’t know where my master is! After reviving me, he let me roam freely, waiting for his call. I attacked the mortals out of boredom!” Mirmulnir hastily replied, fearing his skull would soon crack under Leo’s foot.
Faced with the choice between loyalty to Alduin and survival, Mirmulnir chose to save his life.
Leo frowned, unsatisfied with the dragon’s answer, as it provided no useful information.
“Phantom Emperor Fist!”
To ensure the dragon wasn’t lying, Leo raised his fist and struck Mirmulnir’s head.
However, the Gemini technique, which could easily manipulate a human’s mind, failed to work on the ancient dragon.
Mirmulnir only froze for a moment before recovering, unaffected by Leo’s mental control.
It seemed that either Mirmulnir’s dragon soul was too powerful for the *Phantom Emperor Fist* to control, or the technique, designed for humans, wasn’t effective against dragons.
Unable to control Mirmulnir to verify his honesty, Leo decided to assume the dragon wasn’t lying in the face of death.
If that were true, Mirmulnir had only one remaining use—contributing his dragon soul.
Sensing Leo’s intent to kill, Mirmulnir, desperate and sensing that Leo had eased his pressure slightly while deep in thought, let out a Dragon Shout.
“Become Ethereal!”
In an instant, Mirmulnir’s body transformed into a ghostly form, and Leo’s foot passed through his head, landing on the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Mirmulnir quickly flapped his wings and soared into the sky.
Although he had been completely overpowered by Leo, Mirmulnir was an ancient dragon capable of using three Dragon Shouts, making him far stronger than ordinary dragons, green dragons, or frost dragons.
This Dragon Shout, which allowed him to turn ethereal and become immune to both physical and magical attacks, was his ultimate survival skill.
Even though the ethereal form only lasted for thirty seconds, and he couldn’t attack during that time, it was enough to escape in a dire situation.
“We can’t let him escape!”
Seeing Mirmulnir slip away, Irileth was alarmed and immediately ordered all archers to fire at the dragon.
If they allowed the dragon to escape, Whiterun would never know peace.
However, whether it was Irileth’s magical arrows or the guards’ steel arrows, all passed harmlessly through Mirmulnir’s ethereal form, doing no damage.
As he ascended to a safe height, Mirmulnir’s ethereal form faded, and he realized he was out of danger. Instead of fleeing immediately, he taunted from the sky.
“Dovahkiin, you are strong, but you are nothing compared to my master! To stand with the mortals and betray Alduin will lead only to death! And when the time comes, your soul will be my master’s finest feast!”
“You won’t live long enough to see your master.”
Leo responded with a cold smile. In an instant, his Sagittarius Gold Cloth appeared, replacing the crude leather armor he had been wearing.
“God-Slaying Golden Arrow!”
Drawing the Golden Bow, Leo summoned a radiant golden arrow, which then transformed into a beam of light that shot toward Mirmulnir.
Sensing imminent danger, Mirmulnir frantically tried to turn and flee.
But just as he began to move, the golden arrow pierced his skull, and like a fallen bird, his body plummeted back toward the watchtower.
“Dovahkiin, no!!!”
Despite the dragon’s formidable defenses, the Golden Arrow of Sagittarius, known as the “God-Slaying Arrow,” was more than capable of killing even an ancient dragon.
While it might not be able to kill Alduin, it was more than enough to bring down Mirmulnir.
As Mirmulnir’s lifeless body crashed to the ground, Leo felt a sudden tremor in his own body—he was once again resonating with a dragon soul.
“Whoosh~~”
A howling wind seemed to echo as Mirmulnir’s dragon soul emerged from his body, transforming into pure soul energy that was completely absorbed by Leo.
At that moment, the knowledge of the first Dragon Shout, *Unrelenting Force*, which he had learned at Bleak Falls Barrow, became perfectly clear in his mind.
Almost instinctively, Leo opened his mouth, and with a surge of soul energy, unleashed a powerful Dragon Shout.
“Fus Ro Dah!”
The force of the Dragon Shout instantly pushed Mirmulnir’s massive corpse back several meters.
It was clear that Leo had used his Dragonborn bloodline’s unique ability to absorb dragon souls and had fully mastered his first Dragon Shout.
Although Dragon Shouts could be considered a form of Dragon Language magic, Leo realized that using them didn’t deplete his magical energy.
Instead, it consumed his soul energy and mental strength.
Fortunately, as a Jindan cultivator, his soul, or *Primordial Spirit*, was far stronger than an ordinary person’s. Additionally, his cosmos had expanded his spiritual capacity, and the Dragonborn bloodline had further strengthened his soul.
Using Dragon Shouts didn’t seem to burden him much, especially since *Unrelenting Force* only had one word of power at the moment. He felt he could shout it a hundred times without issue.
However, once he mastered all three words, it might not be so easy.
Moreover, other Dragon Shouts, such as the one Mirmulnir had used to become ethereal, would likely consume even more spiritual energy.
