MWM Chapter 529

This entry is part 530 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

As a top-tier destruction mage, Faralda possessed deep knowledge of lightning magic, even having some understanding of the legendary Elemental Storm spell. However, the lightning magic used by the Dragonborn Emperor was unlike anything she had ever seen.

The lightning was purple, and the destructive energy it contained made her feel that if she were struck, she would likely perish instantly.

Even if Colette Marence, a master of Restoration, used her most powerful protective wards, Faralda estimated the outcome would be the same.

It was undeniable: the Dragonborn Emperor, who had defeated Alduin and conquered dragons, surpassed her by hundreds of leagues in the art of destruction magic.

Yet, what left them feeling hopeless was that despite the power of the destructive spell, when it struck the blue magical barrier, it only caused the barrier to tremble for a moment before it stabilized once more.

“Well, well, impressive! It can even absorb this level of lightning,” Leo remarked with a hint of delight as he observed the barrier absorbing the purple thunderbolt.

If the barrier had been broken so easily, he would have been less interested in the artifact.

After all, though the thunder’s power was formidable, he could easily withstand it with his current physical form. If he could endure it effortlessly, but the artifact could not, then what use would it have?

“Southern Bright Flame Sword!”

Since the lightning could not break the barrier, it was clear that conventional magical attacks would likely be ineffective as well. So, Leo summoned his most powerful artifact, the Southern Bright Flame Sword.

This divine weapon, crafted by Bodhidharma, was now pitted against the top-tier godly artifact of this world, the Eye of Magnus, created by Magnus himself. It was a contest to see which would prevail.

A blue flame appeared in Leo’s hand and, under the power of his celestial essence, transformed into a hundred-meter-long sword, slashing fiercely at the barrier formed by the Eye of Magnus.

“Boom!”

A deafening explosion echoed as the entire barrier shattered like glass, breaking apart and finally dispersing into the air.

Clearly, the divine weapon had the upper hand.

Of course, this also related to the strength of the wielder.

Leo’s power vastly outstripped that of Ancano, who was within the academy.

At that moment, Ancano, who had been focused on refining the Eye of Magnus in the academy’s main hall, suddenly opened his eyes.

“How is this possible? The barrier was broken? Could those fools have found the Staff of Magnus in such a short time?”

Years ago, Ancano was sent to Winterhold Magic Academy, officially to oversee the mages and ensure they did not conduct dangerous magical experiments, thus maintaining the continent’s safety. However, his true mission was to secretly search for clues about the Eye of Magnus.

Although the Aldmeri Dominion had gained an upper hand in the war against the Empire, forcing the Empire to sign the humiliating White-Gold Concordat, completely eradicating the Empire’s influence and unifying the continent of Tamriel remained a daunting task.

Therefore, the leadership of the Aldmeri Dominion set their sights on the Eye of Magnus.

It was said that the Eye of Magnus possessed the power to destroy worlds. If they could control the Eye, the Aldmeri Dominion could finally conquer the Empire and unify Tamriel.

Especially now, with the continent’s situation changing and the fearsome Dragonborn Emperor rising again, the Aldmeri Dominion faced the risk of annihilation.

Thus, the Eye of Magnus became all the more crucial.

With just three more days, he would have completed the secret rituals to refine and take the Eye of Magnus. He never expected trouble at this critical moment.

According to his knowledge, only another artifact of Magnus, the Staff of Magnus, could counter the Eye’s barrier. However, that staff had been lost for thousands of years.

So, he had never considered that the few escaped, outdated mages could find the Staff of Magnus in such a short time.

“Hmph, even if you’ve found the Staff of Magnus, you are no match for me!”

After a moment’s thought, he dismissed his concerns.

While the Staff of Magnus could break the Eye’s barrier, that was all it could do. Its inherent power wasn’t particularly overwhelming.

With the power of the Eye of Magnus bolstering him, his strength had grown immensely. Those old mages attempting to stop him would only be marching to their deaths.

“Creak!”

Hearing the main hall doors open, Ancano paused his refining ritual and used the Eye of Magnus to emit a wave of magical energy throughout the academy.

“Mass Paralysis!”

As soon as Leo pushed open the door, he sensed a surge of powerful magical energy rushing toward him, and a look of interest appeared on his face.

The magical energy felt similar to his own full-body bind spell. It appeared to be a Transmutation spell known as Mass Paralysis, which could immobilize anyone it struck.

But for him, it had no effect.

The spell was certainly potent; even Tolfdir, a master of Transmutation who led the way, was immediately paralyzed upon facing the Eye-enhanced spell.

Likewise, the other mages and guards behind him were frozen in place.

However, Leo’s physical strength was far too formidable. Even without actively resisting, his body could shrug off the paralysis effect.

It was akin to how a regular Transmutation mage could easily paralyze an advanced warrior, yet the same spell would have no impact if cast upon a dragon.

“The Eye of Magnus, excellent! Excellent! Excellent!”

Leo stepped past the immobilized Tolfdir, ignoring Ancano’s furious glare, and directed his attention to the Eye of Magnus.

The object was a sphere about five meters in diameter, filled with immense energy and inscribed with intricate magical runes.

As he scanned it with his spiritual sense, the secrets of various laws seemed to flow into his mind.

In that moment, he realized that the Eye of Magnus was not merely a weapon of mass destruction. While it did hold great power, capable of becoming a formidable magical weapon if wielded correctly, that was not its true nature.

Its essence appeared to be the blueprint that Magnus used to design the world of Nirn.

It contained the principles of creation and a wealth of related knowledge.

Such insights might be useless to most, as they were far from reaching such a level of understanding. They could only sense how the Eye enhanced their magical abilities.

But for Leo, it was invaluable—far more so than a powerful weapon or defensive artifact—because he sought exactly this knowledge.

Thus, he couldn’t help but praise it three times in succession.
