- MWM Chapter 540
“Crack!”
Just as Leo snapped the neck of a gargoyle, a large icicle shot toward the back of his head.
However, his head was too tough, and the icicle shattered on impact.
“I have to ask, Serana, were you trying to kill me?”
Leo dropped the gargoyle’s corpse and turned back to look at Serana with a bemused expression, as the icicle had clearly come from her.
Serana immediately shrank back a bit and mumbled:
“Um… I was just trying to help, but my body’s still a bit stiff, so my aim was off.”
After all, she had been asleep for over a thousand years—without drinking fresh blood, confined to a stone coffin. Even as a Daughter of Coldharbour, she didn’t require blood to survive, but her body was still in a severely weakened state.
She truly hadn’t meant to attack Leo; she had only intended to lend a hand.
“Forget it, better if you don’t try to help. I can handle these little nuisances.”
Sensing that Serana wasn’t lying, Leo decided to let it go.
“Flames of Fury!”
With a wave of his hand, a dragon of blue fire materialized, instantly consuming all the gargoyles in its path.
“By Molag Bal, are humans really this powerful now?”
Watching Leo effortlessly use such a powerful fire spell to annihilate all the gargoyles, Serana’s long-dormant heart nearly skipped a beat.
She felt fortunate that she had remained friendly, or she might have ended up as a pile of ashes herself.
“Let’s go; we should get out of here.”
With the gargoyles dealt with, Leo motioned for Serana to follow. Under her astonished gaze, he effortlessly dealt with more awakened draugr, including a powerful draugr overlord, before leading them safely outside.
“Oh, it’s so beautiful out here. I never want to set foot in a stinky draugr cave again.”
Gazing at the starry sky and the beautiful moon, Serana, dressed in her vampire royal light armor, stretched luxuriously, showing off her graceful figure.
“All that’s missing now is a refreshing glass of Argonian Bloodwine.”
“Here, I thought vampires only drank human blood.”
Leo casually pulled out a bottle of Argonian Bloodwine and tossed it to Serana.
Her eyes lit up with excitement as she retrieved an intricately carved silver goblet from her waist pouch, elegantly pouring herself a glass before drinking it down in one gulp.
Silver weapons might be harmful to vampires, but they often had a fondness for silver vessels and decorations.
“That’s what the lesser vampires, the ones who can’t control their urges, do. As for me, I only take a small sip from humans I like.
Mostly, I enjoy the fine foods and wines of humanity.
I also love human towns and their culture, especially bustling places like Winterhold. I used to enjoy visiting the College of Winterhold to read.”
“So, you’re a peace-loving vampire, then?”
Leo smiled as he conjured a cloud beneath them, lifting them up to head in the direction of Serana’s described vampire castle.
As they flew on the white cloud, Serana looked down at the passing scenery, marveling:
“I never imagined humans would have mastered flight magic. In my time, only the Dwemer’s floating airships could take to the skies.”
“The Dwemer have been gone for a long time now.”
Leo, controlling the cloud, struck up a conversation with Serana.
He found this vampire young mistress to be a bit prideful but also talkative. She had read many books and knew numerous stories not found in history books, making their conversation quite interesting.
“That’s my family’s castle!”
In the middle of their chat, Serana suddenly stood up on the cloud with excitement.
Following her gaze, Leo saw an imposing ancient castle in the distance.
The castle occupied nearly eighty percent of the island’s area. The weathered walls suggested it had a very long history.
“Um… Leo, once we’re inside, my father will reward you with plenty of gold. But I should warn you, my father and the others in the castle might not be as… understanding as I am.
So if they offend you, I hope you can be forgiving.”
“I’m a pretty tolerant person, as long as my life isn’t threatened.”
Leo shrugged.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let them hurt you.”
Serana patted her chest with determination.
The cloud landed on the island, and the two of them crossed a stone bridge, arriving at the castle’s grand entrance.
“Oh, it’s unbelievable—Lady Serana has returned! Open the gate! Open the gate!”
The vampire guard stationed at the entrance lit up with excitement upon seeing Serana and immediately shouted toward the top of the gate.
Soon, accompanied by the clanking of chains, the massive iron gate slowly lifted.
“Lady Serana, where have you been? The master has been searching for you for a thousand years.”
“It’s a long story, and one I can’t explain right now. Are my father and mother in the castle?”
Serana didn’t answer the guard’s question directly, instead asking her own.
The vampire guard hesitated for a moment:
“The master has never left the castle, but the mistress disappeared shortly after you did and hasn’t been seen since.”
“I need to see my father.”
The hopeful expression on Serana’s face faded as she headed inside the castle.
Leo followed at a leisurely pace, his hands clasped behind his back.
The other vampires merely glanced at him, assuming he was Serana’s new blood thrall, and paid him little further attention.
Passing through the castle’s entrance hall, they soon arrived at the grand and opulent central hall of the castle.
It seemed that a grand vampire feast was underway.
Dozens of tables were filled with hundreds of high-ranking vampires in elegant robes, each with a human thrall under long-term mind control, serving as their living blood supply.
Most of the thralls were beautiful young women.
Besides the armored vampire thralls standing guard, many fearsome creatures like death hounds prowled the room.
At the center of the hall, a figure in royal vampire armor—Harkon—stood. Upon seeing Serana, he broke into joyful laughter.
“My daughter, missing for a thousand years, has finally returned. You still have the Elder Scroll of the Sun with you, don’t you?”
“After all these years, that’s the first thing you say to me? Yes, I have the scroll.”
Serana’s initial excitement at seeing her father quickly faded, her tone turning cold.
Clearly, even after a millennium, her father, Harkon, hadn’t changed—he still valued the Elder Scroll more than his own daughter.
