Dragging his injured body, Nick Fury quickly contacted Hill, who hadn’t gone far from the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
With Hill’s help, he hid in the nearest secret base and received some basic treatment.
“Fury, what should we do next?” Hill asked, tenderly bandaging Nick Fury’s wounds.
Nick Fury pulled out the pager he always carried with him, thought for a moment, and put it back in his pocket.
“It’s not time to use it yet. Notify Coulson to continue with the previous plan. I need to go to Malibu in Los Angeles.”
“Go to Los Angeles?” Hill was taken aback.
Nick Fury nodded, putting on his leather jacket and jumping off the bed:
“I need to find Tony Stark and figure out where his information is coming from, and see if we can directly locate the Hydra agents hidden within S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Originally, if he hadn’t been discovered, he could have slowly investigated and eliminated those Hydra agents more safely and covertly.
But now, it was clear that time was running out. If he waited any longer, he might be found and killed first.
As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he knew how easy it was for S.H.I.E.L.D. to find and capture someone. With agents, eyes, and satellites all over the world, it was the result of his years of efforts, ensuring that any threat, alien or otherwise, could be addressed immediately, just like with the Skrulls and Kree.
But now, all those efforts had become tools for Hydra, a death sentence hanging over him.
“Remember, until we know exactly who the Hydra agents are, trust no one except Coulson,” he instructed Hill before donning an old man’s hat and leaving the base after some disguise.
Besides being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was also a top-level level-10 agent and could avoid S.H.I.E.L.D.’s detection methods for a short period with some secret tech weapons.
In the evening, after Tony returned to his mansion, he immediately conducted a more detailed body check and created a small device to test his palladium levels.
“Already at 5%. Being a superhero is really not that easy.”
Looking at the number on the device, Tony sighed.
He knew he was committed to being the spokesperson.
“Sir, Nick Fury has again entered the villa without permission. Should I notify Happy to expel him?”
At that moment, Jarvis’s reminder sounded.
“That guy, really no manners at all. No need, I’ll handle him myself!”
Tony looked at the monitor, then walked over and, with Jarvis’s help, donned the Mark suit again.
Since Nick Fury’s last intrusion into his mansion, he had upgraded the mansion’s defense system and installed interference devices to prevent satellite observation.
Given his current mood due to the poisoning, he was ready to take out his frustration on the impolite director.
Legally, trespassing into a private residence could be met with deadly force. If he didn’t kill Fury, at least a beating would be justified!

In Queens, New York, Leo had just gotten out of his car when Li San, the head of the neighborhood security team, ran over.
“Boss, a new tenant moved into the neighboring apartment this noon. Her name is Natalia Shostakova, and she’s now in your house.”
“Isn’t Mrs. Martha living next door?”
Leo looked puzzled. Mrs. Martha was good at making desserts, and Wanda often consulted her about cooking.
Li San explained:
“Mrs. Martha lives alone and had two spare bedrooms. She wanted to rent them out for extra money and posted online. This morning, they were rented out, and the new tenant moved in by noon.”
“Rented in the morning and moved in by noon? Isn’t that a bit too fast? Do you have her details?”
Leo frowned at Li San’s words.
If it were another building, he wouldn’t care, but it was right next door, involving Wanda’s safety, so he had to be cautious.
Li San handed over a stack of documents:
“Our intelligence team has investigated her. All her details check out.”
“Natalia Shostakova, born in 1988, currently…”
After skimming through the new neighbor’s information, Leo didn’t find anything suspicious.
If his professional intelligence personnel couldn’t find any flaws, there wasn’t much he, as an outsider, could discern.
“Alright, got it.”
He memorized the details and returned the documents to Li San.
Since the person was currently at his home, he decided to test her in person. Some things couldn’t be seen in documents but might be revealed in a face-to-face encounter.
“I’m back!”
As Leo opened the door, he heard Wanda’s cheerful laughter from inside.
“Natalia, I didn’t know you also liked watching ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show.’ That part you just mentioned is my favorite.”
Hearing Leo’s voice, Wanda happily ran over to take his briefcase, pointing to a beautiful woman with red wavy hair sitting on the sofa:
“Darling, let me introduce you. This is our new neighbor, Miss Natalia Shostakova. She’s very easy to get along with.”
“Oh, I can see that. Good evening, Miss Natalia. I’m Leo, Wanda’s husband. Welcome to our neighborhood!”
Leo affectionately patted Wanda’s head and turned to smile at Natalia.
Natalia returned the greeting with an envious look:
“Good evening. You both seem so happy together. And from my conversation with Wanda this afternoon, I’ve heard so many good things about you that I almost want to end my single life and find someone to marry.”
Wanda blushed at her words:
“Natalia, you’re so beautiful and talented. Finding a good boyfriend shouldn’t be hard.”
“But finding someone like your husband isn’t easy. Anyway, I’ll leave you two to your lovely evening. I’m getting hungry and should see what I can cook.”
Natalia smiled and shrugged as she prepared to leave.
“Indeed, my husband is exceptional,” Wanda instinctively nodded. Then, seeing Natalia getting up, she quickly added:
“You just moved in this afternoon, and Mrs. Martha is visiting her daughter and might not return tonight. Why not join us for dinner? I have plenty of food prepared.”
She then gave Leo a look before saying:
“Darling, could you check if Pietro has returned? He said he’d join us for dinner tonight, so he can meet our new neighbor.”
“Sure, I’ll go get him.”
Leo understood Wanda’s intention and left the house.
He knew Wanda probably found Natalia nice and, since she was single, wanted to see if she could set her up with her brother Pietro.
Because Pietro had never mentioned joining them for dinner tonight.
