MWM Chapter 68

This entry is part 69 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“What?!”

Nick Fury had managed to maintain his composure when he heard that John Garrett was a Hydra agent. But when Leo mentioned Alexander Pierce, Fury’s expression transformed into one of genuine shock.

Nick Fury had taken over S.H.I.E.L.D. from Alexander Pierce. Without Pierce’s strong recommendation, Fury might never have become the director. Pierce, now a high-ranking member of the World Security Council, had secured many of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s funds by lobbying various nations.

To Fury, Pierce wasn’t just a former boss but a like-minded friend.

“No wonder. No wonder I was almost killed today right after starting my investigation. Only Pierce could pull something like this off within S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Despite his reluctance to believe it, once Fury considered Pierce as the mastermind and a Hydra agent, everything made sense.

“Are there any others? Do you have a detailed list of Hydra agents within S.H.I.E.L.D.?”

Fury looked up and asked urgently.

Leo turned around, spreading his hands:

“The base was about to explode, so we didn’t get a complete set of data. The only confirmed agents are John Garrett and Alexander Pierce.

However, based on our analysis, most of your S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have likely defected to Hydra.”

Leo shared Pierce’s information to ensure Fury wasn’t too passive in the upcoming battle, preventing him from having to call back Captain Marvel. As for Garrett, it was personal.

He didn’t plan to provide information on anyone else.

If Fury could easily eradicate all Hydra agents with Leo’s information, it wouldn’t be beneficial for him. He needed balance between the two sides so he could profit from their conflict.

Even if Fury eventually eradicated Hydra, it should leave S.H.I.E.L.D. too weakened to meddle in his affairs.

“Alright… This is already very good. Thank you for the information, Mr. Leo. The sample and data for the Super Soldier Serum should be here soon.”

Fury wasn’t too disappointed with Leo’s response; the deal had exceeded his expectations.

He had hoped for intel on a high-ranking Hydra agent like Garrett, which would help him trace and eliminate other hidden agents.

But finding out about Pierce was an unexpected bonus.

If Leo had given him a list of Hydra agents within S.H.I.E.L.D., he wouldn’t have believed it anyway.

Knowing how Hydra had stayed hidden for so many years, Fury understood their secrecy. Even Pierce might not have such a list, let alone a base in Sokovia.

About ten minutes later, a 1934-style red antique car with flames shooting from its rear flew to the top of the Li Group building and landed gently.

“Director, here’s what you asked for!”

A middle-aged agent with a receding hairline, smiling broadly, got out of the car carrying a box.

His name was Coulson, one of Nick Fury’s most trusted agents.

“Why does this car look so familiar?”

Tony was uninterested in the box Coulson was carrying but was fascinated by the flying antique car, feeling he had seen something like it before.

“She’s called Lola. Mr. Howard Stark originally built her. After multiple modifications, she now performs exceptionally well.”

Coulson beamed with pride as he spoke about his beloved car, catching Tony’s interest.

Tony slowly remembered:

“Oh, it’s that one. I remember now. My father showcased something similar at the 1943 Stark World Expo, but it failed. They did make a working model, but the high costs shelved it.”

While Tony and Coulson bonded over Lola, Nick Fury handed the box to Leo.

“Mr. Leo, thanks again for your help. If you have any new Hydra intel, contact Coulson. I’m sure we’ll work together as well as we did today.”

“Of course!”

Leo opened the box and saw a vial of Super Soldier Serum and a USB drive, nodding in satisfaction.

Coulson, finishing his chat with Tony, handed Leo a business card.

“This is my card.”

“I’ll contact you if I have any information.”

Leo closed the box, smiling as he took the card.

“If there’s nothing else, we’ll be leaving.”

Having accomplished their goals, Fury signaled to Coulson and Natasha to prepare to leave.

Now aware of Pierce and Garrett’s true affiliations, Fury needed to act quickly to make arrangements.

Coulson and the still-distracted Natasha bid farewell to Tony and Leo and got into the car.

As Lola began to lift off, Leo suddenly remembered something and called out to Natasha with a smile:

“Miss Natasha, don’t forget you promised to go shopping with Wanda tomorrow. Don’t let her down. If Wanda’s disappointed, I won’t be happy. And if I’m unhappy, future Hydra intel might not reach you.”

“Mr. Leo, understood.”

Natasha’s mouth twitched, but under Fury’s direction, she nodded.

Once Lola was far from the Li Group building, Fury turned to Natasha:

“Though the mission failed, I hope you gathered some useful information.”

“His men form a highly skilled and powerful security team. Leo himself isn’t ordinary either, likely having enhanced his body, as might his guards.

He also deeply loves his wife and prioritizes her safety. He’s a very devoted husband.”

Taking a deep breath, Natasha cleared her mind of distractions and reported.

Fury frowned as he listened until the end, when he smiled.

Not because he thought Leo’s love for his wife made him a good person, but because he believed he had found Leo’s weakness.
