- In Marvel: I Start by Marrying Scarlett Witch [Complete]
- MWM Chapter 73
“The area is clear of civilians, and we’ve roughly pinpointed the target’s location. The perimeter is tightening…”
Emil Blonsky led over a hundred elite American soldiers, inching closer to the alley where Banner and Betty were hiding. In about two minutes, they would be discovered.
“No, this time I’m not leaving you behind!”
Seeing Banner’s expression, as if he was ready to sacrifice himself, Betty grabbed his hand. The last time she let go, Bruce disappeared for years. This time, she wasn’t going to let him go.
“Ahem, I really didn’t want to interrupt, but they’re about to find you, so I had no choice.”
Leo couldn’t help but speak up, seeing the couple below, looking as if they were about to face a tragic farewell.
“Who are you?”
The sudden voice from above startled Banner and Betty, making them jump out from between the two large trash cans.
But when they turned and saw Leo, they were frozen in place.
A man wearing a strange golden mask stood straight up on the wall, completely defying the laws of physics.
“You must be Mr. Green. I’m a friend of Mr. Blue. He should have sent you a message. I’m here to help.”
Leo raised a hand, signaling them not to be nervous, and explained.
Banner took a deep breath to calm himself:
“Uh… I’ve been on the run, so I haven’t had a chance to check any messages. But given the situation, how exactly can you help us?”
Even though he hadn’t checked any messages, the fact that this stranger knew the nicknames Mr. Green and Mr. Blue was proof enough. But with the place completely surrounded, how could this masked man help them escape?
“They’re here!”
At that moment, two soldiers appeared at either end of the alley, clearly having located them.
Seeing the soldiers aiming their guns, Banner’s pupils began to show hints of turning green.
Leo quickly leaped down from the wall, kicked the two large trash cans, sending them flying like cannonballs toward the soldiers, knocking them unconscious.
“Don’t get agitated, there’s no danger. Leave it to me!”
Hearing Leo’s words, Banner took a deep breath and forced the Hulk’s will back down.
“What do we do now?”
“Grab onto my shoulders, and hold on tight!”
Hearing the footsteps rapidly approaching, Leo smiled at Banner and Betty.
Banner and Betty hesitated for a moment, unsure of how this would help, but after exchanging glances, they grabbed onto Leo’s shoulders.
They had no other options left and could only hope this masked stranger really could help them.
“Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique!”
Seeing they had a firm grip, Leo quickly formed hand seals and then blew hard downward. A torrent of water surged out, turning into a massive wave that rushed down the alley in both directions. The heavily armed soldiers, led by Blonsky, were just reaching the alley entrance when the giant wave swept them away, carrying them off into the distance.
Standing on the wave he created, Leo grabbed the clinging Banner and Betty, securing them at his sides as he swiftly ran out of the encirclement.
……
“What’s going on? Did you capture them or not?”
Inside the armored command vehicle, General Ross had just heard Blonsky report that they’d found the target, but the next second, there was a strange sound of rushing water, and then silence.
Luckily, at that moment, the soldiers in the helicopter provided an explanation, though their voices were filled with disbelief.
“General, a massive wave suddenly surged from the target’s location. Colonel Blonsky and everyone else were swept away by it.”
“Soldier, are you joking with me? This is the city center, not the seaside or a lake. Where did the wave come from?”
Ross yelled, glaring in disbelief.
Just then, a communications officer in the armored vehicle tugged on Ross’s sleeve:
“General, look over there!”
Ross looked up through the front window, only to see a huge wave rolling down the street, sweeping tables and chairs along with it, heading straight for their armored vehicle.
“Oh, damn it, this is insane!”
“Boom!”
The wave completely engulfed the armored vehicle, though its weight prevented it from being swept away like the tables and chairs on the street.
About twenty seconds later, the wave gradually subsided, leaving 8th Street in a state of chaos.
“Where is the target now?”
Ross furiously picked up the communicator again.
The soldier in the helicopter responded:
“They’ve broken through the perimeter and are now on 5th Street. There’s also a masked stranger with them. He’s carrying the targets and moving fast. We’re in pursuit.”
“All units, head to 5th Street and intercept the target!”
Ross roared into the communicator, immediately ordering the armored command vehicle to move towards 5th Street.
“Whoosh! Whoosh!”
On 5th Street, as Leo was sprinting with Banner and Betty, his ears suddenly twitched. He immediately leaped onto the roof of a nearby burger joint.
The spot where he had just been standing was now marked by two tranquilizer darts.
“Looks like I need to deal with you first!”
Glancing at the two helicopters hovering in the air, with soldiers inside aiming tranquilizer guns, Leo placed Banner and Betty on the rooftop.
“Wait here!”
The tranquilizer darts posed little threat to him, but each helicopter was equipped with machine guns. If General Ross decided to disregard his daughter’s safety and ordered the machine guns to fire, things could get tricky, even for him.
Moreover, with two helicopters watching from above, it wouldn’t be easy to take Banner and Betty away.
Originally, Leo had only planned to take Banner. Betty, being General Ross’s daughter, would have been safe even if left behind. But after some thought, he decided to bring both of them.
First, Betty was a top-notch cell biologist who could be very helpful in researching new drugs in New York. Second, her presence could help keep Banner calm.
Just as Black Widow could soothe an enraged Hulk and bring him back to being Banner, Betty, as Banner’s lover, could have the same effect. If Banner ever transformed again, having Betty around could make a big difference.
Besides, for Leo, Betty’s weight was negligible.
“Okay… okay…”
After being released, Banner gasped for air. Leo’s actions—spouting water and running on it—had been so unbelievable that Banner had nearly lost control of his emotions.
Now, he had to focus on suppressing the turmoil within to prevent the Hulk from emerging.
Betty, though equally shocked, noticed Banner’s distressed state and quickly moved to embrace him, trying to calm him down.
