MWM Chapter 78

This entry is part 79 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“Boss, Mr. Stark is here!”

The voice of Xiao Liu came through the intercom on Leo’s desk.

“Alright, I understand. Let him in,” Leo replied calmly, without any surprise.

It had been some time since the last detox session, and Tony’s toxin levels had increased again, thanks to his habit of flaunting his suit everywhere. Tony had already mentioned yesterday that he would be coming over for a detox session.

“Hey, dear Leo, how have you been? I heard from Pepper that you seem to be having some trouble lately?” Tony walked in briskly, wearing his signature sunglasses.

Leo smiled and said, “There’s been some trouble, but nothing to worry about. There’s a saying in China, ‘The innocent will be proven innocent.’ My products have no issues, and these rumors will eventually collapse on their own.”

He continued, “By the way, I read in the papers that you’ve been summoned to Washington for a hearing tomorrow?”

Recently, while the Li Group was being targeted by various forces, Tony had also caught the attention of the U.S. government. They were pressuring Tony to hand over the technology for his Iron Man suit, claiming it was a dangerous weapon.

In fact, the Li Group’s troubles were partly related to this as well.

Take, for instance, Senator Stern from Washington, who was a HYDRA operative embedded in the government. He didn’t have much of a personal grudge against the Li Group. He was helping the pharmaceutical industry bigwigs attack the Li Group mainly because of its close ties to Stark Industries.

HYDRA also wanted to use the government to pressure Tony into handing over his Iron Man suit technology.

If most of their resources weren’t tied up dealing with Nick Fury, their tactics might have been even more aggressive.

“Just a bunch of clowns. I know them too well. Tomorrow, I’ll show them that even if the president himself came, he wouldn’t be able to take anything from me unless I wanted to give it,” Tony said with clear disdain for the government officials.

Stark Industries was deeply integrated into various industries across the country, with many government projects and advanced technological products depending on them. The government couldn’t afford to be too harsh with Tony.

As for legal methods, Tony’s legal team was top-notch.

So, they could only try to pressure Tony into voluntarily handing over the Iron Man suit technology through a hearing.

“Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out. Mind if I tag along tomorrow to see the show?” Leo asked as he approached Tony, using his palm healing technique to clear all the toxins from Tony’s body.

Tony’s eyes lit up. “Of course, I’d be delighted!”

He often found himself outmatched by Leo, and after finally creating the Iron Man suit and even advertising the Tri-Color Pills on its back, he was eager to show Leo how he could handle those government officials—how he could outsmart and dominate them.

It was a rare opportunity, one he wasn’t about to pass up.

“I’ve been meaning to ask, who is this?” Tony glanced at Xiao Wu, who had been silently standing by. Initially, he hadn’t noticed her due to her plain attire, but now his keen eye, honed by years of experience with beautiful women, had spotted her hidden beauty and unique aura beneath her simple outfit.

“Could she be… your wife?” Tony asked, picking up on the occasional glances Xiao Wu sent Leo’s way.

“W-W-Wife!” Xiao Wu, who had been quietly smiling since Tony entered, suddenly turned red upon hearing Tony’s words.

Her gaze, which had been assessing the best angle for a lethal strike if Tony attacked her boss, softened into a look of mild approval.

If Leo’s other subordinates had seen Xiao Wu blushing, they would have been shocked. Everyone who knew Xiao Wu was aware that she took pleasure in slowly tormenting and killing enemies while listening to their screams, showing no mercy to anyone, be it elderly, children, or women.

Among Leo’s three most trusted subordinates, Li San appeared the strongest, Li Liu seemed the fiercest, and Xiao Wu looked the most harmless.

But in reality, everyone feared Xiao Wu the most. She showed no emotion to anyone but Leo, not even hesitating to kill Li San or Li Liu if Leo ordered it.

“She’s my sister, Xiao Wu. Go ahead and take a break. When you get a chance, go visit Wanda. She’s been asking about you.”

Leo addressed Xiao Wu, who nodded and left the office.

Tony, watching her leave, looked surprised. “She’s your sister? But you two don’t seem to…”

One was a mixed asian descent (Leo), the other a clear European with white skin (xiao Wu), and they didn’t resemble each other at all.

“Xiao Wu is my adopted sister. I just consider her as a sister,” Leo clarified, noticing Tony’s increasingly curious expression.

Xiao Wu was indeed very attractive, but Leo genuinely saw her as a sister or subordinate, nothing more. He had taken her in because she was pitiful, had potential, and was ruthless enough to survive.

Over time, they had developed some emotional bonds, but it was purely familial, with no romantic feelings involved.

Li San, Xiao Wu, and Li Liu, along with the nine others who had died, all had dark, tragic pasts.

Leo had only saved them because he needed capable hands, training them in martial arts, teaching them to become stronger, and giving them value.

To them, Leo was the single light in their dark world, a light they were willing to protect with their lives.

After agreeing on a time to meet the next day, Tony left, and Leo headed down to the lab.

The recent troubles facing the Li Group were trivial matters to him, so insignificant that he barely needed to lift a finger—Xiao Wu and the others could handle them just fine.

What he truly cared about was the progress of the new drug, as there wasn’t much time left before the one-month deadline he had set for himself.

“Dr. Stern, Dr. Banner, how’s it going?”

“We’ve managed to develop a very special genetic drug based on Dr. Banner’s blood and the green gene’s powerful assimilation properties. After numerous experiments, we’ve found it to be highly effective against cancer cells…”

Seeing Leo enter, Dr. Stern immediately launched into an excited explanation.

Leo raised his hand to interrupt, asking, “So, does this mean the current research results can cure all forms of cancer?”

“That’s right! Simply put, our new drug can assimilate cancerous cells into green cells and then expel them from the body, effectively curing cancer,” Dr. Stern confirmed, nodding enthusiastically.
