MWM Chapter 97

This entry is part 98 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

The next morning, while having breakfast at the Bull’s Head Tavern, Leo saw another piece of news in the newspaper.

Last night, a newly elected Muggle senator was killed in an attack by an unknown magical creature, pushing the magical community to the brink of exposure. A representative of the International Confederation of Wizards appeared at Congress.

“It’s time to max out my favorability rating!”

After tossing the Niffler from the nearby cage into his bag, Leo Apparated to a spot across from the American Magical Congress building.

Unlike the London Ministry of Magic, where one could Apparate, use the Floo Network, or fireplaces, the New York Magical Congress building was protected by anti-Apparition spells, making it impossible for anyone to Apparate in or out.

The only way to enter or leave was through the main entrance.

“Excuse me, is Ms. Goldstein here?”

Inside the Wand Permit Office of the Magical Congress, Leo inquired of a wizard who was sitting at Tina’s desk.

The wizard looked Leo up and down before replying gruffly:

“Tina Goldstein? That troublemaker has been locked up on the fiftieth basement level for allegedly attacking a Muggle. What business do you have with her?”

“I was here three days ago to apply for a wand permit. Today, I wanted to invite her to lunch.”

Leo smiled and asked, “And you are?”

“I’m Rob Cassie, head of the Wand Permit Office. You don’t need to bother inviting her to lunch; she probably won’t be getting out. I’ve told that fool many times not to wander off, but she never listens…”

The wizard seemed quite upset about Tina’s arrest.

It wasn’t out of concern for Tina herself, but because her arrest left him scrambling to find someone to cover her duties, which meant he had to step in himself for the time being.

After confirming that Tina and Newt had been arrested, Leo wasted no time in further conversation and promptly left.

“Transformation!”

After leaving the Wand Permit Office, he found a secluded corner, performed a hand seal, and transformed into the image of Rob Cassie, the head of the Wand Permit Office.

“Good morning, Mr. Cassie. Where are you headed?”

In the magical elevator, an elderly goblin asked Leo.

Leo nodded, “Good morning, Red. I’m headed to the fiftieth basement level prison.”

The goblin, unaware of Leo’s transformation, naturally pressed the button for the fiftieth level.

In the wizarding world, there are generally three ways for wizards to change their appearance, but most wizards are unable to master any of them.

The first and simplest method is to brew Polyjuice Potion, an advanced potion.

After drinking Polyjuice Potion, one can transform into a person of any age or gender, but not into an animal, and non-human or half-human beings cannot transform using it either.

However, the potion is extremely complex to brew, requiring a high level of potion-making skill, rare herbs, and a full month to prepare.

Moreover, the transformation only lasts for a limited time.

The second method is to be a Metamorphmagus, a natural ability that allows one to change their appearance at will. However, such wizards are extremely rare—there may only be a handful in the entire wizarding world.

The third and most difficult method is using Transfiguration to alter one’s appearance.

This requires a wizard to have achieved exceptional mastery in Transfiguration, a level of skill so high that, to date, only Grindelwald has been known to accomplish it; even Dumbledore may not be capable of it.

Therefore, under normal circumstances, wizards don’t usually worry much about such transformations.

“Mr. Cassie, is there something you need?”

At the entrance to the fiftieth basement level prison, two Aurors guarding the prison looked at Leo and asked.

Leo quickly pulled out two gold Galleons and slipped them into the Aurors’ hands.

“I’d like to see Tina Goldstein. She was arrested suddenly, and there are many documents I can’t find. Without them, it’s difficult to proceed with my work. Consider these Galleons a token of my appreciation for a glass of Gigglewater.”

The two Aurors exchanged glances, silently pocketed the Galleons, and smiled.

“You’re too kind, Mr. Cassie. As the head, it’s perfectly reasonable for you to check on your subordinate. She’s in cell 22 of the East Wing.”

As the head of the Wand Permit Office, Rob Cassie was theoretically on the same level as their boss, the head of the Auror Office, so visiting his subordinate was not a big deal.

Besides, he had slipped them two gold Galleons. In these times, even an Auror’s monthly salary was less than fifty Galleons.

They weren’t as rigid as Tina Goldstein, who had once been the best among them, solving most of the wizarding crime cases. And what had it gotten her?

She was demoted to a desk job and now imprisoned as a suspect, possibly spending the rest of her life in prison.

“Indeed, money can make the world go round, a truth that holds everywhere!”

Once inside the prison, Leo quickly found cell 22 in the East Wing, where he saw Tina, Newt, and Jacob confined.

“Mr. Cassie, why are you here?”

Tina’s face showed surprise when she saw Leo.

Her immediate superior, Rob Cassie, had always disliked her, so she was genuinely touched to see him as her first visitor after her arrest.

“It’s me, Tom. I came by this morning to return this little guy to Newt, but I didn’t expect you all to be imprisoned. What happened?”

Leo undid the transformation spell, revealing himself and pulling out the Niffler from the cage.

“Tom!”

Seeing Rob transform into Leo, Tina and Newt’s eyes widened in shock.

First, they were amazed by Leo’s skillful transformation, allowing him to take on another person’s appearance. Second, they were surprised that after learning of their imprisonment, he would risk coming to find them.

After their initial shock, Newt quickly recounted what had happened the previous night.

It turned out that after Newt settled into Tina’s home, he secretly took Jacob out at night to retrieve the lost Erumpent.

However, just as they were finishing up, Tina caught them.

Since Leo had taken the Niffler in advance, the timeline shifted, and Tina didn’t end up locking them in the suitcase and taking them directly to Congress.

Instead, after Newt explained, Tina understood that Newt was simply protecting magical creatures and persuaded him to voluntarily go to Congress with her to avoid any misunderstandings.

Unfortunately, at that time, Congress President Seraphina Picquery was being scolded by the International Confederation of Wizards’ delegation. To save face, she refused to listen to Tina’s explanation.

She immediately labeled Newt as a follower of Grindelwald, even attributing the Muggle senator’s murder to him. Tina was also accused of being an accomplice and was imprisoned alongside Newt.
