MWM Chapter 99

This entry is part 100 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“Prison break! Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein, and Jacob Kowalski have escaped!”

At that moment, a shrill alarm echoed throughout the entire American Magical Congress building, and the central pillar began to display magical images of Newt, Tina, and Jacob.

As the sirens blared through the Congress, Aurors quickly began a thorough search of the building.

“You’re Newt!”

Grindelwald glanced at the suitcase in Leo’s hand and immediately made a deduction.

Percival Graves had been personally killed by Grindelwald with the Killing Curse; there was no way he could be alive. So the person in front of him had to be an imposter, just like himself.

As for who was impersonating Graves and how they were doing it, the alarm had already provided the best answer.

It was clear: Newt Scamander had escaped, and he had likely used Polyjuice Potion to take on Percival Graves’ appearance.

How Newt had obtained Graves’ hair was a mystery.

“Why don’t you guess?” Leo smiled slightly as he faced Grindelwald.

This unexpected situation was a bit of a surprise, but not entirely unwelcome. In fact, he thought this development might turn out better than his original plan.

Grindelwald, clearly uninterested in guessing, didn’t even draw his wand. With a mere wave of his hand, a heavy iron bench from the side of the corridor suddenly flew towards Leo.

“Non-verbal, wandless magic—Grindelwald really is something!” Leo thought to himself, quickly pushing off with his foot and gliding backward along the smooth floor, narrowly avoiding the incoming bench.

“Stupefy!”

Seizing the moment after his successful dodge, Leo cast a spell at Grindelwald.

But Grindelwald merely flicked his wand, deflecting the spell effortlessly.

It was clear that, when it came to magical prowess, the gap between Leo and Grindelwald was vast, completely out of his league.

However, their skirmish quickly attracted the attention of the Aurors patrolling the building in response to the alarm, and they all rushed to the eighth floor.

When the Aurors arrived and saw two Percival Graves standing there, they were momentarily stunned.

“He’s Newt in disguise, trying to reclaim his suitcase! Arrest him!” Leo wasn’t worried in the slightest. Why should he be? While he was an imposter, the other one was even more so. He had nothing to fear. Seizing the opportunity, he lifted the suitcase and shouted loudly to the Aurors.

The Aurors hesitated for a moment, then immediately pointed their wands at Grindelwald.

Grindelwald, however, calmly pointed at Leo and said, “He’s the real Newt, disguised as me using Polyjuice Potion. It won’t be long before the potion wears off, and he’ll revert to his original form.”

Seeing Grindelwald’s composed demeanor, the Aurors hesitated again, shifting their wands back towards Leo.

“Danlon, I remember your child just started at Ilvermorny this year, right?” Leo put away his wand and remained equally calm.

It was no joke; if he planned to use a transformation spell to infiltrate Congress and break someone out of prison, he wouldn’t have done so without thoroughly researching the Congress’s staff.

The previous night, he had visited the Blind Pig bar, disguised himself, and spent two hundred Galleons to buy a dossier on the American Magical Congress staff from a black-market goblin. He had memorized every detail.

When Danlon, one of the Aurors, heard Leo’s words, he immediately aimed his wand at Grindelwald. His daughter had indeed just started at Ilvermorny this year. How could Newt possibly know that?

“He’s the fake!”

The other Aurors quickly turned their wands towards Grindelwald.

Grindelwald, however, retorted angrily, “Danlon, have you forgotten? During the raid the day before yesterday, you accidentally injured a Muggle. I was the one who cleared you of responsibility!”

Danlon was stunned, his wand wavering between Leo and Grindelwald, unable to tell which one was the real Percival Graves.

The other Aurors were similarly conflicted. Both men were so confident and could each cite relevant details; either one could plausibly be the real Graves.

At that moment, President Seraphina Picquery of the Magical Congress, accompanied by representatives from the International Confederation of Wizards, hurried onto the scene.

When they saw two Percival Graves standing there, they were equally dumbfounded.

“What in the world is going on here?”

The Aurors quickly recounted the recent events to Picquery.

However, it was clear that neither Picquery nor the representatives of the Confederation possessed the magical ability to distinguish which of the two was the real Percival Graves.

Grindelwald, seeing Picquery arrive, shot a slightly playful smile at Leo, for he had already figured out how to expose him.

“President Picquery, do you remember the suggestion I made to you last night? I’m sure the imposter wouldn’t know about it.”

Picquery squinted her eyes slightly; she seemed to be leaning towards a conclusion about who the real Graves was.

But Leo remained unfazed, smiling as he replied, “The other guy claims I used Polyjuice Potion to change my appearance. If that were true, I should have reverted to my original form by now, but I haven’t.

However, I can say for certain that the person opposite me isn’t using Polyjuice Potion but a highly advanced transformation spell. A simple Revelio charm will reveal his true form.”

Grindelwald’s pupils contracted slightly at Leo’s words. He hadn’t expected Newt to be so skilled in Transfiguration that he could see through his disguise.

“It’s just a Revelio charm; it won’t harm him in any way. Unless he has something to hide, there’s no reason for him to refuse,” Leo continued, seeing that Picquery was still somewhat hesitant.

“I think that’s a reasonable suggestion,” said one of the Confederation representatives, who often opposed Picquery, stepping forward and casting a Revelio charm at Grindelwald.

“Revelio!”

A beam of magic shot towards Grindelwald. He flicked his wand, deflecting the spell back towards Leo’s direction.

Leo, lacking Grindelwald’s magical prowess to counter such a spell, relied on his quick reflexes, shifting just enough to dodge the incoming magic.

“As Head of Magical Security, I refuse to accept such an insult,” Grindelwald said calmly, after seeing Leo evade the spell.

But Picquery and the representatives weren’t fools. Judging by the actions of both Leo and Grindelwald, they had already sensed something was off.
