Chapter 117: Fang Ye’s Plan: Destroying the Monsters Early!

Four days went by in the blink of an eye.

At 1:30 PM, all students gathered at the entrance of the forbidden zone, waiting for it to open.

The instructor called out loudly, “While this mission’s evaluation, like other forbidden zones, is based on individual performance, I still hope everyone cooperates inside and prioritizes the greater good!”

The group stayed silent, each person seemingly lost in thought.

“There’s half an hour left before the zone opens. Rest up for a bit,” the instructor said before stepping away, leaving the students some space.

As soon as he left, Zhao Ling’er approached Fang Ye with another girl by her side.

She glanced at Fang Ye and his classmates from Wusheng Academy, her gaze landing on him as she asked, “Once inside, how about our teams work together?”

Hearing this, Zheng Bing and the others perked up.

The team from Jingcheng University was strong, and their abilities had left a lasting impression on them. Partnering with them could only be beneficial. Even Su Ziqiu, though somewhat reluctant, knew logically that cooperating with Jingcheng University held significant advantages.

However, Fang Ye shook his head. “I don’t think I’ll be able to join you.”

Zhao Ling’er looked at him, surprised. “Why?”

The others looked at him curiously.

Under their questioning gazes, Fang Ye replied, “Once inside, I don’t plan on going to the disaster era. The appearance of the Whitespike creatures seemed sudden, and from what the instructor said, they appeared out of nowhere in that world. I’ve decided to go to the peaceful era to investigate.”

Zhao Ling’er frowned. “Are you sure? It’s risky. You might end up with nothing and receive the lowest mission rating.”

She had offered to work together partly as a way to repay Fang Ye for saving her. She didn’t expect him to take such a dangerous approach, investigating the origins of the Whitespikes.

Seeing Fang Ye nod firmly, Zhao Ling’er said nothing further and turned away.

When she was gone, Su Ziqiu approached Fang Ye and asked, “Fang Ye, were you serious just now?”

“Absolutely.”

“Do you need my help?”

Fang Ye thought for a moment, then shook his head. “It’s too risky. I’m not sure I’ll succeed, so I’ll go alone.”

In Fang Ye’s mind, he had a plan—one rooted in his knowledge of the storyline, and bringing Su Ziqiu along would make it inconvenient. Additionally, he couldn’t be certain he hadn’t mixed up the timeline. If he had, taking her along would only be dragging her into danger.

The truth was, he was making a gamble.

“Alright, I understand,” Su Ziqiu said without further argument.

Before long, the half-hour passed.

“Time to enter the forbidden zone,” the instructor announced, and the students lined up seriously, entering one by one.

When Fang Ye stepped in, he found himself in a stark white room.

“Remember your mission!”

“Mission: Eliminate the Whitespike monsters and protect humanity.”

“Mission Difficulty: Normal.”

“Mission Duration: 7 days.”

“Note: If you find yourself in danger, you can choose to abandon the mission and return. Abandoning the mission will reset your progress and forfeit any rewards. Please choose wisely.”

“Note: Mission evaluation is based on individual performance. The better your performance, the higher your rating.”

After the message, a selection screen appeared before Fang Ye, offering options for time and location.

The voice repeated, “Please select your desired time and location.”

Following the instructor’s recommendation, most students would select the year 2050, when the Whitespike monsters had overrun Earth, providing plenty of targets to complete the mission.

But Fang Ye had a different plan.

Knowing the storyline, he recalled that the Whitespike monsters originated from an alien spaceship that crashed on Earth over a thousand years ago. Because it landed beneath one of the coldest glaciers, the monsters remained frozen until 2048, when the glaciers melted, releasing them to attack humanity and reproduce at an alarming rate.

These monsters were, in fact, a biological weapon created by aliens intending to wipe out Earth’s inhabitants, leaving the planet’s ecosystem intact for their own purposes.

Fang Ye’s plan was to travel back to a time before the monsters thawed, locate them, and eliminate them all at once.

If successful, he would prevent the apocalypse from happening and save humanity, which would undoubtedly earn him a high mission rating.

“In the original storyline, soldiers from the future arrived at a soccer game on Christmas in December 2022,” he thought, recalling the plot details. “The protagonist was at home celebrating Christmas when this all began…”

“After he was drafted, it took twelve months, so by late 2023, he was called up. He went to report in after learning his fate from a death certificate issued by the city of Macon, Georgia.”

“Time and place confirmed—Macon, Georgia.”

Yes, Fang Ye planned to track down the protagonist. Although he knew the general location of the spaceship, it was hidden in a vast ice field, making it nearly impossible to find alone. However, with the protagonist—who was destined to succeed—Fang Ye could quickly locate the site.

With the time and location set, Fang Ye continued, calculating further.

“Based on the storyline’s timing, the protagonist is drafted in mid-December 2023. After a week’s mission and another few days investigating the monsters’ whereabouts, he should pinpoint their hiding spot around late December 2023.”

“So, I’ll set my time to December 25, 2023.”

“By then, he’ll have returned from the future, witnessed his daughter’s fate, and vowed to destroy the monsters and save humanity. If I arrive then, the timing will be perfect.”
