**Chapter 143: The Wrath of Whitebeard**

On the battlefield, the clash between Whitebeard and Akainu continued to rage.

The ground was shattered, and molten magma splattered everywhere, painting a scene of devastation.

Even Aokiji had intervened several times, endangering Whitebeard’s life. However, Jozu had tackled Aokiji out of the way, leaving Whitebeard and Akainu to face off one-on-one again.

Whitebeard, towering in stature, wielded his supreme-grade blade **Murakumogiri**, which was even taller than himself. Standing there, man and blade exuded an aura of unmatched might, as though commanding an invisible army.

Across from him, Akainu stood firm, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with his sleeve. His gaze was icy.

He couldn’t believe that this old man, seemingly at death’s door, still possessed such monstrous strength.

Akainu had already taken two direct hits from Whitebeard. It felt as though his body was splitting apart, saved only by his quick reflexes in liquefying into magma and melting the ground to sink underground. Otherwise, he would likely have been finished.

Suddenly, Whitebeard’s eyes widened in alarm, his face contorted in pain.

The repeated use of the **Tremor-Tremor Fruit** was causing his old injuries to flare up again.

Fang Ye noticed Whitebeard’s condition and rushed forward at full speed.

“Old man’s collapsing!” he shouted while clutching a Den Den Mushi that Marco had given him earlier.

“Don’t you dare try anything funny again!” Marco snapped at Squard, the Great Whirlpool Spider, as his body ignited in flames and he flew toward Whitebeard.

Squard’s face was ashen. Realizing he’d been duped by Akainu, he clenched his jaw in rage. The shame of stabbing his father figure with a blade weighed heavily on him.

“Akainu… I’ll kill you!” he growled, leaping from the ship and sprinting toward Whitebeard’s position.

With a heavy thud, Whitebeard fell to his knees, his body overwhelmed with pain.

It felt as though his organs were being torn apart, leaving him utterly drained.

**Cough!**

A mouthful of blood burst from his lips as his gaze grew faint.

Akainu, noticing Whitebeard’s vulnerable state, seized the opportunity to attack.

This was his chance—perhaps the only chance to kill the legendary pirate!

His right arm transformed into a massive pillar of magma, swelling rapidly.

“Hellhound!”

With a roar, Akainu aimed for Whitebeard’s head, determined to end him in a single, devastating strike.

This was Akainu’s strongest attack, one he was confident could obliterate Whitebeard’s head entirely.

At that moment, Whitebeard, lost in his pain, seemed unaware of the looming threat.

“Old man!” Marco shouted desperately. He could see Akainu’s attack coming but was too far away to intervene.

“Akainu!”

A familiar voice rang out, freezing Akainu in his tracks. His Observation Haki screamed a warning—danger, death was closing in!

He twisted his body with all his might, barely managing to dodge.

But as he moved, his attack veered off course. The fearsome **Hellhound** missed Whitebeard’s head by a hair’s breadth, leaving a ghastly burn across his face instead.

“Damn you!” Akainu roared, glaring at the group approaching him. His eyes locked onto a young man among them, unremarkable in appearance yet undeniably dangerous.

“You dare ruin my plans!”

Furious, Akainu hurled a massive wave of magma, engulfing the **Sea Prism Stone Jitte** Fang Ye had thrown moments earlier.

Under the intense heat, the jitte melted rapidly, leaving only its handle intact.

“Now, let’s see how you fight me without that,” Akainu sneered as he turned his attention back to Whitebeard, preparing to strike again.

“Hellhound!”

His magma-formed arm shot forward, extending toward Whitebeard with terrifying speed.

“Old man!” Marco screamed, darting forward in a desperate attempt to shield Whitebeard.

“Stand down!”

Whitebeard had regained his senses. Seeing the oncoming attack, he knew there was no time to unleash his fruit’s powers. He grabbed Marco and pulled him behind him.

“Old man!” Marco struggled fiercely, but Whitebeard’s grip was unyielding.

As Akainu’s magma-fueled fist closed in, a shadow suddenly darted in front of Whitebeard at an unbelievable speed.

Before anyone could react, the figure took the blow head-on, magma piercing their chest.

“You fool, you reckless brat!” Whitebeard bellowed, his voice shaking with rage as he recognized who had shielded him.

For the first time, the legendary pirate was consumed by fury.

Charging forward, his enormous fist enveloped in a radiant white glow, Whitebeard aimed a devastating punch at Akainu.

**Boom!**

Akainu felt as though he’d been locked in place, unable to move or counter.

The punch slammed into him with overwhelming force, driving him into the ground.

“Argh!”

Whitebeard roared, spitting blood as he unleashed the full power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.

Akainu, pinned beneath the immense pressure, was almost flattened, unable to resist.

“Damn it…” Akainu struggled, realizing that he was moments away from death.

Desperately, he liquefied his body, transforming into magma and sinking into the molten ground to escape.

“Old man… Squard, he…” Marco stammered, his voice trembling as he gazed at Squard’s impaled chest.

Whitebeard rushed over, lifting Squard into his arms.

“You reckless idiot… Why didn’t you listen to me?!”

Whitebeard’s voice was tinged with both anger and heartbreak. The towering man, the strongest in the world, trembled visibly, his half-broken beard shaking with each breath.

“Old… old man…” Squard whispered, looking up at Whitebeard.

“As long as you’re okay… I’m fine…”

“Old man… I have a request.”

“Say it,” Whitebeard said, nodding quickly as he held Squard close.

“Can you… forgive me?”

“You fool!” Whitebeard barked, tears glistening in his eyes. “I’ve never blamed you, not even once!”

“Then… I’m at peace… Make sure… to save Ace…”

With those final words, Squard’s hand fell limp.

The magma-fueled **Hellhound** had ravaged his chest, destroying his organs. That he lasted even this long was nothing short of a miracle.

Whitebeard handed Squard’s body to Marco.

“Take him back.”

“Yes, old man!”

Marco spread his wings, carrying Squard toward the **Moby Dick** in a streak of blue flame.

**Bang!**

Whitebeard slammed his massive blade into the ground, sending shards of rock flying.

“Marines… Now it’s your turn to pay!”
