**Chapter 156: The Navy’s Defeat and the Man Who Terrified Sengoku**

Sengoku, who had been fiercely battling Whitebeard, was immediately drawn to the deafening explosion from Akainu’s self-destruction. He turned, his expression darkening as he realized what had happened.

Seeing the aftermath of Akainu’s sacrifice, Sengoku erupted in fury. Breaking away from Whitebeard, he launched a massive palm strike toward Marco and Fang Ye.

“Die, you filthy pirates!”

**Boom!**

Marco, dragged back by Fang Ye, barely escaped the devastating attack. Cold sweat trickled down his face.

“That was close… Too close.”

Fang Ye glanced back, his eyes widening in shock.

Sengoku had transformed into his colossal Golden Buddha form, radiating an overwhelming brilliance. Where his palm had struck, a massive hand-shaped crater now scarred the battlefield, smoke rising ominously from its depths.

Assessing the destructive power of Sengoku’s attack, Fang Ye couldn’t help but gasp.

“This… Is this the legendary palm strike from above? Terrifying!”

This was far more devastating than the strike Sengoku had used against Luffy.

Without wasting time, Fang Ye turned and sprinted away.

“You’re not getting away, brat!”

Sengoku roared, leaping into the air. His golden palm extended, aiming to crush both Fang Ye and Marco.

**Crash!**

Whitebeard intercepted Sengoku’s attack, catching the giant palm with his massive blade.

“Sengoku, how low have you fallen to target the younger generation?”

Whitebeard grinned, his tone filled with mockery.

Already seething, Sengoku’s fury boiled over.

“Aargh!”

With a roar, Sengoku struck again, his golden palm clashing violently against Whitebeard’s titanic strength.

“Bring it on!”

Whitebeard bellowed, countering with a punch imbued with the power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.

Their clash sent shockwaves rippling through the battlefield, tearing apart everything in their wake. The sheer force of their strikes killed or incapacitated countless soldiers and pirates caught in the crossfire.

Marco, now safe beside Fang Ye, looked at him with gratitude.

“You’ve saved me again…”

While Marco possessed incredible regenerative abilities, he wasn’t invincible. Akainu’s last attack and Sengoku’s full-force strike could have obliterated him outright.

Fang Ye waved off the thanks, his eyes focused on the titanic duel behind them.

Whitebeard, despite his injuries, was trading blows with Sengoku and holding his ground.

**Boom! Boom! Boom!**

Their repeated clashes created shockwaves that shattered the frozen sea surrounding Marineford. The broken ice gave way to rising seawater, battering the already crumbling island.

“Marineford is going to collapse!”

“The island can’t hold much longer. Run!”

“If the seawater floods in, I might have a chance to kill those Devil Fruit users!”

“Don’t be ridiculous—if the waves hit, we’ll all die!”

The Navy’s morale crumbled as chaos erupted. Soldiers began retreating, their fear contagious.

“Don’t run!”

Sengoku’s booming voice tried to halt the retreat, but in the face of impending doom, it was futile.

As soldiers fled, pirates surged forward like a relentless tide, pushing the battle into the ruins of the Marine Headquarters.

“Focus, Sengoku!”

Whitebeard chuckled, throwing another tremor-charged punch at the distracted fleet admiral.

“Damn it!”

Sengoku retaliated with a powerful golden palm strike, clashing once more with Whitebeard.

The shattered remnants of Marineford trembled violently. Watching the cracks deepen beneath his feet, Sengoku finally understood Whitebeard’s intent—he was deliberately destroying the island.

Sengoku froze. He realized the grim truth: **the Navy had lost.**

This entire war, initiated by the Navy with the execution of Ace and the baiting of the Whitebeard Pirates, had been a catastrophic failure.

From the moment Whitebeard’s ship slipped past their defenses, their plans began to unravel.

Then came the injuries to Kizaru and the drawn-out battle with Aokiji.

The final blow was Akainu. Despite his desperate gambit, he failed to stop Fang Ye and Marco, dying in a self-detonation that achieved nothing.

Now, Sengoku found himself locked in combat with Whitebeard, while Fang Ye stood nearby, completely unscathed, watching the fight with a chilling calmness.

Sengoku turned and met Fang Ye’s gaze.

In that moment, he understood the monstrous opponent Akainu had faced.

Fang Ye’s power might not match that of an admiral or an Emperor, but his unyielding stare conveyed one clear message—**he intended to kill Sengoku.**

For the first time in his life, Sengoku felt a shiver of fear.

His confidence as a wielder of the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Daibutsu, faltered. The wisdom and composure of a Buddha had been shaken.

“Stop!”

Sengoku broke off his clash with Whitebeard, retreating as he called for a ceasefire.

Whitebeard lowered his blade, trusting that Sengoku would not strike again.

“You have something to say?” Whitebeard asked, his tone light, as if he were indulging an old friend.

Sengoku’s face twisted in frustration. “We underestimated you, Whitebeard. This time, we lost. But this doesn’t mean the Navy has been defeated!”

Gritting his teeth, Sengoku turned to his remaining soldiers. “Retreat!”

One officer hesitated. “But this is the Marine Headquarters! Where can we retreat to?”

Sengoku’s glare silenced him. “Retreat!”

With a wave of his massive hand, Sengoku led the Navy onto their warships.

As the ships pulled away, Sengoku cast a final, icy glance at Whitebeard.

“Expect the Navy’s revenge. Let’s see if you live long enough to face it.”

Whitebeard simply smiled, his silence a deliberate taunt.

The Navy ships disappeared over the horizon, leaving the pirates to erupt in cheers.

Throwing down their weapons, they retrieved food and drink from their ships, celebrating their hard-won victory.

“The Navy isn’t so tough after all! We took their headquarters!” Ace laughed, feigning nonchalance.

Marco, however, remained silent, his expression somber. His eyes scanned the battlefield, searching for someone.

“Where’s that pirate…” he murmured.

“Who?” Ace asked, curious.

Marco shook his head, smiling faintly. “No one. Forget it.”

“Look! What’s that?”

A pirate pointed toward the horizon, where a ship was approaching.

Whitebeard followed his gaze and laughed.

Docking nearby was the **Red Force**, the flagship of the Red-Haired Pirates. Shanks disembarked hurriedly, his face tense.

“Give me a break here, guys—wait… the fight’s over?”
