OKSTS Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Open and Hidden Struggles! A Desolate World

“What’s behind the glass door?”

“Why does it look like a black hole?”

“Is this the entrance?”

The students whispered among themselves.

“That’s right, this is the entrance to the restricted zone!” Teacher Yan confirmed the students’ speculations and said, “Just head inside. When the three mission options appear, make your choice. Remember, stay safe in there! I’ll be waiting for your return…”

Hearing this, the students lined up and began walking toward the black hole-like entrance.

Fang Ye watched as the students disappeared one by one after entering the portal…

Soon, it was his turn.

Standing in front of the entrance, he took a deep breath and stepped forward.

The next moment.

He found himself in a white space.

“Please select your mission…”

A voice prompted.

Following that, three mission options appeared in front of Fang Ye.

[Mission 1: Eliminate mutated creatures infected with the T-virus.]

[Mission difficulty: Easy.]

[Mission duration: 30 days.]

[Hint: The more mutated creatures you kill, the higher your mission evaluation.]

(The higher your evaluation, the more rewards you’ll receive.)

[Mission 2: Rescue survivors.]

[Mission difficulty: Hard.]

[Mission duration: 30 days.]

[Hint: The more survivors you rescue, the higher your mission evaluation.]

[Mission 3: Eradicate the T-virus and save the world.]

[Mission difficulty: Ultimate.]

[Mission duration: 30 days.]

[Hint: The faster you complete the mission, the higher your evaluation. Completing the mission will grant you the ultimate reward: a random talent.]

[Warning: If you fail to complete the mission within 30 days, you will be permanently trapped in this world!]

Looking at the three mission options, Fang Ye felt like complaining.

The first two missions had no warnings.

Obviously, failing them had no real consequences.

Definitely newbie-friendly!

No wonder the government designated this as Restricted Zone No. 2.

But Mission 3 was a different story—failing it meant being stuck in this apocalyptic world forever!

Though you wouldn’t die, living in a world like that wasn’t much better than death…

Fang Ye couldn’t help but wonder.

Where did these mysterious restricted zones come from?

What was their purpose?

Were they really designed to help humans grow stronger?

No one could answer Fang Ye’s questions.

Shaking off these thoughts, he said firmly, “I choose Mission 3!”

A confirmation sound rang out: “Mission selected…”

Then, a flash of white light caused Fang Ye to feel disoriented.

When his vision cleared, he found himself standing on an empty street…

This was a ruined city.

In the distance, buildings were in various states of disrepair, as if some great disaster had struck.

The streets were littered with abandoned vehicles, trash, and dust.

Despite being in a massive city, there wasn’t a single person in sight!

From where Fang Ye stood, he could see the entire city cast in a yellow-brown hue, as if covered in a layer of dust. It had been abandoned for a long time, with no trace of its former glory.

Desolate!

Broken!

This was the true picture of the city.

At the entrance to Restricted Zone No. 2.

As the students entered the zone, the teachers who had accompanied them relaxed and began chatting.

Teacher Yan Tai was about to find a quiet corner to rest when someone called out to him.

“Old Yan, long time no see!”

A well-groomed teacher with gold-rimmed glasses walked over to Yan Tai.

This teacher seemed familiar with Yan Tai and greeted him warmly, giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder with a smile.

“Didn’t expect Wusheng Academy to send you to lead the team this year.”

Yan Tai looked at the teacher, who appeared to be his age, and instinctively frowned.

A flicker of resentment and dislike passed through his eyes…

“Wang Liang!” Yan Tai subtly increased the distance between them and asked coldly, “When did we get so close?”

Wang Liang, the teacher, didn’t seem offended. He smiled and said, “Come on, we’re old classmates. No need for such hurtful words, right?”

“Old classmates?” Yan Tai sneered. “You’re a prestigious teacher at Martial God Academy, and I’m just a lowly teacher at a third-rate university. I wouldn’t dare climb to your level!”

“Old Yan, it seems you’re still holding onto the past,” Wang Liang sighed. “That incident was just a misunderstanding…”

Yan Tai snorted and cut him off, “Sorry, I’m not here to catch up. Do you need something?”

“Nothing in particular.” Wang Liang kept his smile and said, “I just wanted to check in on you. Seems like you’re doing alright now, so I’ll let Qingqing know.”

At the mention of “Qingqing,” Yan Tai’s expression remained neutral, but inside, he felt a sharp pang of pain.

That woman should have been his…

Yan Tai knew Wang Liang was doing this on purpose!

Looking at Wang Liang’s fake smile, he felt an overwhelming urge to punch this smug, deceitful man.

“Oh, by the way, there’s one more thing!”

Wang Liang suddenly added, “I remember there’s an unspoken rule among us teachers whenever freshmen enter Restricted Zone No. 2: We always see whose students earn the highest mission evaluations.”

“Surely this year will be no exception, right?”

He said this loudly, deliberately drawing the attention of all the teachers nearby…
