Chapter 4: Someone Actually Chose a Class C Hero?
When Fang Ye stepped through the portal of light, the scenery around him changed instantly.
All around him were vibrant colors, surreal and dazzling.
It felt as if he had entered a dreamlike world!
“Please select the hero you wish to bond with…”
As the prompt appeared, countless images of heroes flashed before Fang Ye’s eyes for him to choose from.
Fang Ye didn’t even glance at the S-class hero section, nor did he look at the A-class or B-class heroes.
He had already made up his mind, and his eyes quickly scanned the Class C hero section.
Soon enough, a peculiar bald young man with a dazed expression appeared in his view.
Saitama!!
Filled with excitement, Fang Ye selected Saitama without hesitation!
In the next moment, the surrounding scenery changed once again, transforming into a pure, flawless white world.
And standing right in front of him, without him realizing when he appeared, was the bald demon king himself—Saitama.
Seeing Saitama in person, Fang Ye was startled at first, but quickly regained his composure, looking at Saitama with anticipation.
Saitama, on the other hand, seemed to be observing Fang Ye as well.
After a long while, Saitama suddenly spoke: “It’s been so long, and you’re the first one to choose me!”
Fang Ye was stunned.
He didn’t expect Saitama to speak!
Didn’t the teachers say that heroes don’t talk much to their contractors? If the hero liked you, they would bond; if not, they would ignore you!
What’s going on with this Saitama?
Before Fang Ye could respond, Saitama spoke again.
This time, it was a question!
“What do you want my power for?”
Fang Ye immediately realized how important this question was—it would determine whether he could successfully form the contract!
He fell into deep thought.
Saitama didn’t rush him, just watching Fang Ye calmly.
After a long silence, Fang Ye had a sudden idea and answered, “I want to become a hero!”
A simple, straightforward response.
No emotional fluff.
In the original storyline of *One Punch Man*, Saitama was pretty laid-back. Becoming a hero was just a hobby for him, and he had no grand ambition to save the world.
So, Fang Ye was taking a gamble.
A gamble that his words would resonate with Saitama!
After Fang Ye finished speaking, the atmosphere grew a bit quiet.
Finally, as Fang Ye began to feel anxious, Saitama smiled:
“Then, make sure you become a proper hero. Don’t tarnish the name of ‘hero’!”
As his words fell, Saitama’s entire body transformed into a stream of light, merging into Fang Ye’s body.
At the same time, a notification echoed in Fang Ye’s mind:
“Congratulations! You’ve successfully bonded with the Class C hero, ‘Caped Baldy,’ and gained the ‘Saitama Physique’!”
“Saitama Physique: Through regular training, you can become infinitely stronger!”
…
In the hall of the sacred land.
The homeroom teacher was suddenly startled by the students’ exclamations:
“The light portal is glowing!”
“It’s Fang Ye! That kid succeeded in forming a bond!!”
The teacher, who had been daydreaming, was immediately both shocked and delighted and hurriedly looked toward the light portal.
However…
The color emanating from the portal wasn’t the purple representing an A-class hero, nor the red representing an S-class hero, nor the green of a B-class hero…
It was… gray!!
“Why is it gray? What kind of hero does this represent?”
“Isn’t it usually purple, green, or red?”
“Yeah! I’ve never heard of a gray color before…”
The students murmured amongst themselves, curiosity written on their faces.
The teacher’s expression, however, turned grim.
He knew exactly what the gray represented!
Gray.
It only appeared when someone successfully bonded with a Class C hero!!
There had been someone before who bonded with the number one Class C hero, “Mumen Rider,” and became the laughingstock of everyone…
At this thought, the teacher’s face darkened completely.
He would rather his student fail to bond than become a joke and tarnish the school’s reputation!
…
“Huh? That glow… is gray?”
“Oh wow! It really is gray!”
“…I can’t believe someone actually chose a Class C hero?”
“Which school are they from?”
“Judging by the uniform, looks like they’re from No. 3 High.”
“Haha, this kid sure brought glory to No. 3 High!”
“No. 3 High is supposed to be a top school, and yet they’ve got someone like this… I don’t even know what to say.”
Not far away, several teachers noticed the gray glow from the portal and began to gossip.
Their tone was laced with schadenfreude, clearly amused at the situation…
Moreover, these teachers didn’t bother lowering their voices while talking, and since the hall wasn’t too large, most people heard them.
Many students, upon hearing this, wore expressions of disbelief.
“…So, gray represents a Class C hero? Well, you learn something new every day!”
“Fang Ye actually chose a Class C hero?”
“Is he out of his mind? Even if you manage to go to college, with a Class C hero, you’d only end up in a no-name school, wasting your money!”
“Damn, I thought this guy hit the jackpot and bonded with some powerful hero! Turns out it’s just a Class C hero, haha…”
“I’d rather fail to bond than end up with a worthless Class C hero!”
“The principal is here too… Look at his face, he seems furious. Fang Ye’s in trouble now.”
