OKSTS Chapter 76

**Chapter 76: The National Freshman Competition!**

“You have a boyfriend?”

Li Yufen frowned and asked, “Is he one of your classmates?”

Seeing Su Ziqiu nod, Li Yufen remarked, “What future could any of your classmates possibly have?” She didn’t intend to sound harsh.

But Martial Saint Academy was, after all, considered a “third-rate” college, attended mainly by ordinary students who couldn’t synchronize with heroes. In her eyes, they really had “no future.”

Su Ziqiu chose not to argue, responding calmly, “Even if he doesn’t have a bright future, he’s my choice.”

“Your choice?” Li Yufen sneered, then said sternly, “Don’t forget your family name is Su. In this matter, you don’t have the freedom to be so willful!”

Su Ziqiu looked at her mother with a quiet gaze, then unexpectedly smiled.

“Mom, back when I scored perfectly in humanities, I could have attended a better university, pursued another major. Do you know why I chose Martial Saint Academy?”

“It’s because I knew that no matter how accomplished I became in other fields, I would never escape the control of people like you.”

“But Martial Saint Academy gives me something else. It offers me strength—the strength to control my own fate.”

Li Yufen stared at Su Ziqiu, momentarily taken aback. It was as if she were truly seeing her daughter for the first time.

A flash of anger then crossed her face. “Do you think that with a few good scores, you’re suddenly free to do as you please?”

“One day, I will be,” Su Ziqiu replied, a mysterious smile of satisfaction crossing her face. “And I believe that day isn’t far off.”

For the first time, she had openly defied her mother.

She was fighting for her own destiny.

For the first time, she had tasted the thrill of freedom.

“Naive!” Li Yufen scoffed with disdain. “Do you think forbidden zones are child’s play? Two successful missions, and you’re already deluded? The dangers in the later zones are beyond your imagination!”

“Even if I die in a forbidden zone someday, it’ll be by my own choice, with no regrets,” Su Ziqiu replied firmly.

With that, she seemed to lose her patience. Standing up, she said, “Mom, I have class this afternoon, so I’ll be going.” Ignoring her mother’s seething gaze, she turned and walked away.

Since her mother clearly viewed her as a pawn for a family alliance, she wouldn’t play the obedient daughter anymore!

She had heard of Wang Chao from the Wang family.

He was just a spoiled playboy!

Though he’d managed to synchronize with an A-rank hero talent and gain admission to Martial God Academy, he still acted uselessly around campus.

From his second year onward, he’d stopped attending forbidden zone missions entirely.

The only reason he hadn’t been expelled was because of the Wang family’s influence… And yet, Li Yufen had the nerve to claim he had “boundless potential.”

Leaving the hotel,

Su Ziqiu hailed a cab back to school.

She wasn’t afraid her family would cut off her allowance.

Just yesterday, the school had waived all her future tuition and fees, and she’d be receiving a scholarship every year. If she really needed extra cash, she could always get a part-time job…

Su Ziqiu felt like a bird that had just escaped from a cage, eager to spread her wings.

She got out of the taxi and walked back to school, a smile on her face.

What she didn’t notice—

was a pair of eyes watching her from across the street outside the school gate…

In the hotel’s restaurant,

the exquisite dishes before Li Yufen remained untouched.

She was filled with anger.

No one had ever dared to defy her like this…

After sitting there alone for a while, she eventually left the restaurant and returned to her car.

The driver asked, “Madam, where to?”

“Home!” she replied curtly, then added, “Old Li, arrange for a few reliable people to investigate which boy Ziqiu has been spending time with at school.”

The driver nodded calmly. “Understood, Madam.”

The next morning—

Fang Ye and Su Ziqiu, who were both in class, were summoned to Yan Tai’s office once again.

Yan Tai poured them each a glass of water with a warm smile and then handed each of them a card.

“Teacher, what’s this?” Su Ziqiu asked, a bit puzzled.

Yan Tai chuckled, “Nothing major. The school is just giving you a small reward for your outstanding performance in Forbidden Zone 3, where you made the school proud. It’s not much, so go ahead and take it!”

Fang Ye took the card without much thought, hardly needing the money, as he already had close to a million.

Su Ziqiu, however, accepted it happily. “Thank you, Teacher!”

She had just decided to become financially independent and wouldn’t spend another penny from her family.

It would be humiliating to ask for an allowance from her family after just standing up to her mother.

Last night, she had even considered taking up a part-time job…

This money arrived just in time to ease her financial concerns.

After both students took their cards, Yan Tai smiled and said, “You two have been enrolled for over two months now, and next month is the date of the National Freshman Competition. The school hopes both of you will represent us.”

“This competition offers excellent rewards, and missing out would be a real shame…”

“Wait!”

Fang Ye interrupted, looking confused. “What’s the National Freshman Competition?”

Yan Tai and Su Ziqiu both gave him puzzled looks.

“Fang Ye, are you saying you don’t know about the National Freshman Competition?” Yan Tai asked, surprised. “Do you not use your phone or browse the internet?”

“Um…”

Fang Ye replied honestly, “My phone’s been flooded with calls from strangers lately, so I just turned it off. I didn’t hear about it.”

Hearing this, Su Ziqiu suddenly understood why Fang Ye hadn’t reached out to her recently.

Apparently, he had been so annoyed by the calls that he shut off his phone.

This revelation lifted her spirits—she had felt a bit upset, but now it made sense.

Yan Tai, meanwhile, realized what was going on.

Those calls were likely from other schools trying to poach him!

Keeping his phone off was a good move!

With a smile, Yan Tai explained, “No problem! Let me fill you in on the National Freshman Competition.”

“The National Freshman Competition, also known as the National Newcomers’ Tournament, is an annual event. It evaluates new students’ gains from their first two forbidden zone missions. Every school eligible for the forbidden zones must send first-year representatives to compete!”
