RWWOKS Chapter 156

This entry is part 157 of 247 in the series The Reincarnation World Where Only I Know the Storyline

Deep in the forest, Anko Mitarashi led her squad toward the central tower.

Not long ago, she had discovered the corpse of what seemed to be a member of the Grass Ninja. The poor fellow had been skinned, his body discarded in the wilderness—if not for sheer luck, they might have missed it altogether.

After a thorough investigation, the identity of the corpse was confirmed with the representative from the Hidden Grass Village.

This person had indeed been a participant in the Chunin Exam, which meant someone had assumed his identity and infiltrated the Forest of Death.

As the proctor of the second stage, Anko knew it was her duty to investigate the matter herself.

There was something else that bothered her—the method used to skin the face reminded her of someone from her past.

“Has he returned?” Anko’s emotions became conflicted.

Her feelings toward Orochimaru were complex—a mix of hatred for his betrayal and gratitude for the teaching he once provided.

And somewhere deep inside, Anko still felt hurt.

Why hadn’t he taken her with him back then?

The cursed seal on the back of her neck began to react, confirming her suspicions. The person hiding in the Forest of Death was indeed Orochimaru.

She made a quick hand signal, and her squad came to a halt. Speaking swiftly, Anko commanded, “You all go report this to the Third Hokage. I’ll proceed on my own from here.”

“But, Captain—”

“Just follow the order!”

With that, Anko moved ahead alone, but soon she noticed something wasn’t right.

Why were there suddenly so many webs all around?

Stopping cautiously, she flicked her sleeve, sending several poisonous snakes slithering up the nearby trees.

After a moment of careful observation, she threw a kunai, attached to an almost burnt-out explosive tag.

“Show yourself.”

Boom!

Through the dense smoke, Fang Bo’s figure became faintly visible.

Judging the best route to intercept, he had successfully trapped Anko Mitarashi in this location.

Now that she was here, there was no way he was going to miss the opportunity to claim this high-value target.

[Anko Mitarashi (Tokubetsu Jonin)]

[Attack Style: Moderate]

[Attribute Focus: Agility, Spirit]

[Trait: Heaven Cursed Seal]

[Threat Assessment: Some pressure]

“Her highest attribute exceeds mine by at least five points.”

This meant her movements would be extremely fast, and his web-based trap might not be as effective.

Sure enough, as she faced the advancing army of ghost spiders, Anko remained calm.

Using kunai attached to steel wire, she swung herself through the air, evading the webs’ projectiles. Tilting her head slightly, she even dodged a shot from Fang Bo’s Dragon Cavalry gun with practiced ease.

“If I’m not mistaken, you must be one of the Sound Village candidates, right?” she asked coolly, tossing a few shuriken, which landed on several ghost spiders.

After a few moments, seeing that the spiders showed no reaction, Anko realized her poison wasn’t effective.

“They’re highly resistant to toxins.” As she sidestepped a lunging spider soldier, she slapped an explosive tag onto it and kicked it back into the mass of spiders below.

Boom!

The powerful ghost spiders, which had caused endless trouble for many reincarnators, were as helpless as newborns before Anko.

It was partly due to her extensive battle experience and, more importantly, the significant difference in their absolute attributes.

An army of ants might bring down an elephant, but they could never defeat a dragon.

Although Anko was at the lower end of the Jonin tier, to the ghost spiders, she was a terrifying force of destruction.

“Enough of these boring tricks.” She tossed her kunai up and down playfully, her gaze mocking as she locked eyes with Fang Bo. “If you have the guts to attack me, you better have some real skills. Or are these little creatures the best you’ve got?”

Biting her finger and performing a quick series of hand signs, Anko slapped her hand onto a tree trunk, summoning a massive snake.

**Summoning Jutsu!**

“How about I let it crush your confidence?”

The giant snake towered over the ghost spiders, making them look like nothing more than chips in its path.

Its thick, rough skin made it nearly impossible to take down quickly.

Just as Anko had said, this casually summoned snake was more than enough to keep the spiders busy. If Fang Bo wanted to kill her, he’d have to bring out something stronger.

“I knew it wouldn’t be that easy.” Fang Bo activated his floating acceleration ability, launching himself into the air.

Golden ripples shimmered as his two treasures shot toward Anko at lightning speed.

Anko was indeed formidable. She had even caught his bullets earlier, so his treasures, despite their speed, weren’t enough to land a decisive blow.

However, these weapons packed quite a punch, forcing her to break her defensive stance.

With her movement disrupted, the next wave of attacks would be much harder for her to dodge.

Yoriichi Zero-Type dropped from the sky, landing just as Anko struggled to regain her posture.

After many battles, Fang Bo’s skills and instincts had grown significantly sharper, and Anko was the perfect test for his abilities.

**Sun Breathing, Thirteenth Form: Radiant Sunlight!**

As flames encircled the blade, it descended toward Anko. But just as the strike was about to land, a small poisonous snake slithered out, coiling around the puppet’s joints.

The snake used its body to jam several key points, preventing the puppet from completing its downward slash.

**Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!**

Before the puppet could free itself, Anko employed Orochimaru’s signature ninjutsu, binding Yoriichi Zero-Type and cutting Fang Bo’s chakra threads in one swift move.

As a Tokubetsu Jonin from the Leaf Village, she understood a puppet master’s secret all too well.

Tossing the immobilized puppet aside, Anko clapped her hands with a smile. “Alright, if you don’t have anything else, how about we take a trip to Konoha’s interrogation room?”

“That won’t work.” Golden ripples shimmered again as the greatsword and crescent blade hovered beside him.

“I’ve got an important mission, so I can’t waste any more time here.” With that, Fang Bo leapt from the treetops, preparing to flee.

Dodging the approaching weapons, Anko immediately gave chase.

She was curious about the so-called mission, but even without that, there was no way she would let him escape.

“Sound Village, huh? Seems suspicious.”

As she rapidly descended, Anko failed to notice that a dangerous predator had been lying in wait.

By the time she realized something was wrong, it was too late to avoid the attack from Jorogumo.

“Wasn’t it you who said my children weren’t a threat?”

**Soul-Devouring Bite!**

Energy spiders struck Anko in the chest, causing blood to splatter, though unfortunately, the most crucial stun effect didn’t activate.

Even so, the attack had inflicted significant damage.

Ninjas are high-damage, high-speed, high-magic fighters. They can fight at long range, in close combat, and even act as summoners, making them incredibly versatile.

Their one disadvantage? Their bodies are fragile—one well-placed kunai could be fatal.

This isn’t like the world of pirates, where everyone tanks massive, devastating attacks as if dodging was beneath them.

Ninjas didn’t fight like that, which is why Gaara’s absolute defense was so famous.

Not having to move to block attacks? Aside from “Iron Body,” only Gaara’s sand could achieve that.

Having been struck by an enemy, Anko immediately realized she had walked into a trap.

She activated Hidden Shadow Snake Hands, trying to bind the charging summon, but Jorogumo’s agile spider blade effortlessly severed the snakes.

Seeing the situation, Anko Mitarashi knew that continuing to dodge was pointless, so she gave up on evasion and channeled all her remaining chakra to launch a powerful attack.

“If I can’t avoid it, I’ll give the enemy a real strike.”

**Fire Style: Dragon Flame Jutsu!**

As the spider blade pierced her, a fierce dragon made of fire instantly engulfed Jorogumo.

[Jorogumo received 165 points of damage from the Dragon Flame Jutsu.]

[The attack triggered the “Scorching” effect, causing 2 points of additional damage per second for the next 18 seconds.]

Including the damage from the burn effect, Anko’s fire dragon managed to strip away a total of 200 health points from Jorogumo.

The attack was explosive but not enough to defeat the powerful Ghost Mother Yime.

**Regeneration:** Restores 1% of health per second.

In just a few moments, Jorogumo would be back to full strength. She couldn’t be treated as an ordinary summoned beast.

Landing on the ground with a pained expression, Anko winced and instinctively clutched the wound on her waist.

“Hiss, why does the wound hurt so much?!”

What she didn’t know was that Jorogumo had a special ability to amplify pain, and her poisonous stingers were not something just anyone could endure.

Watching Fang Bo retrieve his puppet and his summon rapidly healing, Anko’s heart sank.

Her puppet was gone, her high-powered fire jutsu failed to kill the summon, and it was clear her mission had failed.

Her next course of action was clear.

She had to shift her focus and prioritize killing the man.

At this point, Anko had abandoned any thoughts of interrogation. She was now determined to fight with the intent to kill.

**Ninja Art: Body Flicker Technique!**

With her speed exceeding 40 points, she suddenly appeared beside Fang Bo, moving so fast that he couldn’t perceive her presence.

One slash across the neck, another through the chest, and as a final parting gift, she left him with a special surprise.

Two snakes slithered out, snakes she had raised with great care, intending to one day use them to take down Orochimaru. She had never expected to use them on a Genin candidate.

**Ninja Art: Twin Snakes Mutual Death!**

A thunderous explosion engulfed Fang Bo.

Seeing this, Anko instinctively assumed the battle was over.

Considering that she had intended to use this technique against Orochimaru, it was evident how powerful the attack was. Surely, no reincarnator from a low-difficulty world could survive it.

Even with his **Steel Heart** ability boosting his health, Fang Bo couldn’t withstand the terrifying damage from the Twin Snakes Mutual Death technique.

Fortunately, he had other means of defense.

As the dust settled, a charred figure lay on the ground.

His gray hair hung loosely around his shoulders, and his wings, once resembling large hands, had been severed at the base. He looked battered and broken, but Fang Bo had somehow survived.

This was his **Curse Mark Stage Two** form. During his first release of the cursed seal’s power, he had been able to shape it at will.

For practical purposes, Fang Bo had shamelessly copied Sasuke’s form.

While flight was impractical, the defense provided by those wings had proven invaluable, shielding him from more than a hundred points of damage.

Having also taken a **Lesser Vitality Elixir (Vitality +5)** earlier, Fang Bo had narrowly avoided being blown to pieces by Anko’s secret technique.

“That was close. I should never underestimate famous canon characters.” Wrapping himself in a bandage to stop the bleeding and raise his health a bit, Fang Bo immediately summoned his giant allies.

**“Plunder!”**

Placing his hand on Tutu, Fang Bo’s health began to recover quickly.

The two remaining giants stood like mountains, shielding him from Anko’s view. Uncertain of what was happening, she hesitated to attack again.

By the time she realized something was wrong, Tutu and Big Mouth had already turned into bare skeletons, their life force completely drained and transferred to their summoner.

Boom!

The giant snake was sent back by the ghost spiders, and before long, Anko found herself surrounded.

Even Jorogumo had returned to full health, meaning that all of Anko’s previous efforts had been for nothing.

As the towering giants charged toward her, a glimmer of despair flashed in Anko’s eyes.

Despite her best efforts, with no room left to dodge, she was quickly overwhelmed by the relentless wave of ghost spiders.

**Imitation: Dragon Flame Jutsu!**

She poured 18 points of spirit into a fire dragon, roaring as it consumed the enemy, taking seven ghost spiders with it in the process.

[You have slain Anko Mitarashi.]

[You have obtained a golden story chest.]
